Curious what gear I use to make these videos? This has been my setup since 2018:
Sony a6300 camera but for 2020 I'd recommend its replacement Sony a6400: amzn.to/32EUOtq
Sigma 16mm lens: amzn.to/30y7lfE
Rode SmartLav microphone: amzn.to/32Cvg02

WTF. For that price that lube better ride the bike itself
Paraffin wax... 10GBP/18AUD per KG & crock pot. The KG will last an absolute age, and the overall coating gives a much cleaner, dirt repelling drivetrain.
For the price I’d rather just buy a half dozen new chains.
Snake oil.

i have been using the Zero Friction wax for a few years now and its much easier and cleaner than what you have shown and works great on the mtb and gravel bikes. might not last thousands of kms they claim but its cheaper! usually 2 washes in methilated spirits and 2 in white spirits cleans them. i did a shimano chain just yesterday like this. i use a palstic container and shake the the chain about.
Hey Mate, just wanna say hi, new to Adelaide, can't wait explore the city. do you have any suggestion for a beginner to Road bike, I used to ride MTB and DH. any beginner bike u think is best for me ?

@@wasupwitdat1mofiki94 I dont think so man. That dura ace chain is made in japan.
To remove the Shimano grease, I first soak the chain in kerosene/mineral spirits overnight, with a few good shakes, then cover with degreaser (Simple Green) with a good shake, rinse, and finally finish off with a good soak with methylated spirits. Kerosene for the heavy grease, and alcohol for the light residue (plus alcohol dries really quickly!)
I agree about judging based on how it is to live with. That's why I use Squirt or Smoove. At first I tried them because the testers said they were the fastest drip lubes, but quickly I found out that using a wax product instead of an oil product meant a MUCH easier life dealing with it. The residue just washes off easily in water. I can easily just wash my rear wheel and cassette in the shower with no oily stuff getting anywhere. Very very easy to live with wax lubes vs traditional ones. This new graphene stuff? I may try it when someone puts out a cheap and good one, graphene can be made ultra cheaply now so it's just a matter of time. But I tell you, it's hard to beat the ease of living with wax lubes, and their efficiency is great to boot.

Squirt is my lube of choice in summer. I do rather like that stuff. I reckon that Squirt with a full immersion process like the Graphenlube could perform very well through dryer weather. Maaaaaybe I'll have to give it a try...
Could you do a review on the Beast Components stuff? Especially their rims and bars and stems? Looks to be really interesting stuff coming out of Germany
If people are that concerned about the time it takes to clean the drivetrain I would recommend that they save up and buy a pinion gearbox with a gates belt drive. Almost never have to maintain or clean the system again. 😏😏😊😊

For me it's the messy greasy drivetrain that I don't like and the fact it gets on my skin clothes car walls rugs etc!. Wax dipping means chain is always clean. I would also love to try a belt drive though!

jellyfishsalad I’ve done the Wax thing, it’s great, apart from one big issue. It does not stop your chain from rusting, at all. Good for one day racing though
@jellyfishsalad5926
3 жыл бұрын
@@bikepackingadventure7913 yes I found that after washing the bike it needs to be left out (e.g. in the sun is good) long enough for the waxed chain to dry. If I leave a waxed chain dripping wet for hours e.g. in a cool damp environment then it develops some minor rust spots.
I rigorously cleaned my Campagnolo chain and applied AB lube in a bag, removed the chain and let dry overnight. On my road bike I got 280 miles/450 kms, and then the chain links began to squeal and click. Got the same results 2 times. Not the results I was hoping for, by a long shot.
Long term test?
The small bottle $15 lol got mine free with chain ring set supposedly saves 7 watts...used it one time felt a little faster compared to squirt wax...the pros use it for racing you think a normal person would buy this? Team pays for everything. It’s better to degrease and wax in bag over night
This seems to simply be a wax based lube (the AB guy says wipe the wax off) suspended in a hydrocarbon (with graphene added). Very much like a few other brands product. I still prefer the full wax immersion system. Yes it can be time consuming but not that bad if you do 2 chains at once for a quick swap over

I've got one roadie on Molten Speed Wax as well. It's an interesting comparison; Graphenlube is fairly easy to set up with no specialised equipment and lasts a long time between uses but the drivetrain isn't clean, MSW is harder to setup and doesn't last as long on a single treatment but is a lot cleaner. I wish I had a 3rd gravel bike with MSW so I could directly compare them!

I find wax dipping so fast and easy. Literally no cleaning involved. I just remove the chain, put it in the rice cooker containing the wax and turn on. Go have breakfast lunch or whatever. Come back and pull it out and hang to cool. Come back 5 mins later and install on bike. It's by far the easiest thing to do on a bike. And the advantage of wax is that you don't need to clean your bike anywhere near as often.

@@MrBJPitt I got a little laugh here. I also use Molton Speed Wax and a rice cooker. Yes, the temperature is over the recommended temperature. I find not effect on the finished product. The initial clean is mineral spirits followed by denatured alcohol then Molton Speed Wax. For maintenance I shake the chain in denatured alcohol then soak in MSW at the high temperature. The alcohol boils off and the whole process takes about 20 minutes. Chain maintenance is now just a little thing to occasionally do as opposed to the "every ride" event with oil. Wax is so nice (required?) for winter roads and the sand, salt, dirt. Wax does well when riding river bottoms and the sand they bring.
Great video thanks, I'd like to know if you would continue to spend your own money to buy this rather than fall back to your usual.

Ride Adelaide - Ah ok 👌. I would expect similar results . . . Or very hard to distinguish the differences. Btw, amazing channel. I post triathlon content and love seeing higher quality channels like yours. Keep up the good work! 👍
For Shimano chains I use mineral spirits, in a mason jar, and soak for 24 hours. But most importantly I also vigorously shake the chain/jar several times. It takes work to clean a new Shimano chain.
I am going to try the wax block version of this not the bottle and see how long my chain lasts.

+1 for chain waxing instead. Cheap and clean.
Using the method of total submerge in the bag will make everyone go bankrupt with this stuff. It would be sufficient to apply one drop on each link/rivet the chain plates don't need excess of lube.
For the money you can buy all the ultrasonic cleaners and stuff to wax your own chains.
You don''t really have to use the ultrasonic cleaner to get the chain completely clean. All you need to do is a much more thorough solvent clean procedure before application. 4 solvent baths is minimum: 1) in the very first white spirit bath, make sure you shake the chain vigorously. 2) discard the used solvent in the first bath, wipe down the chain thoroughly with a clean paper towel before toss it in fresh solvent. 3) 24 hours later, drain the solvent and do a third bath. 4) Wipe the chain down and submerge it in the 90% alcohol to get rid of the white spirit residue. Now let the chain dry. It's now properly cleaned!
You can get graphite lube from the hardware store for about $20. It’s for lubricating locks but works exactly the same.

@@stansmith6402 even if they start with actual graphene (single atomic layer of sp2 bonded carbon), seems unlikely it will stay that way for long.
@paintspot1509
3 жыл бұрын
@@stansmith6402 the mechanical, thermal, optical and electronic properties of graphene are computed strictly for single atomic layers. I assume this lube uses micron sized 'flakes' of graphene (this would need to analysed with raman spectroscopy). There is no mechanism to avoid multiple flakes bonding to the chain and overlaping on top of each other. Once this happens you have graphite again as the theoretical boundary conditions for graphene are no longer applicable.

Give same money to paraffin wax and get a much easier/cleaner chain. I mean , if you took the chain off a bike and have to dip it in something , paraffin wax will always be a fabulous (and way cheaper) choice. In case you prefer drip lube, go Squirt or Tungsten-all weather.

Spend so much for a dirty looking chain
for that price u can buy a new bike 😅
When I was a mountainbiker I never lubricated my chains. I would go through 3 chains a year, riding almost every day, but that is still cheaper than buying this crap fro AB. The design of a bicycle chain is made up of plates, pins, and rollers, rollers being the key feature and thus do not require lubricants. The cycling industry would like you think otherwise so they can sell you lube and companies like AB capitalize on cyclists stupidity and deep pockets. I like my road chains to run a bit quieter so I use Boeshield's T-9 for under $10 a bottle. The money I save pays for a lot of dining out and experiencing life.
This product is just robbery with extra steps.
