I’m glad it’s permanently in the fleet. I’d love to see it pressure washed, and the body kit put back on. And those wheels look amazing, I love how much just wheels and tires can improve a cars appearance

1976 Cobra II was my first car. Bought it new. It ran pretty well. Well, once put a roll cage in it, removed the rear seats, ported the heads, went to an edelbrock dual plane manifold and 750 double pumper with side-mounted floats, Isky 280 duration cam, Zoom clutch, hooker headers, hurst shifter, lowered the front end by cutting 1/2 a coil, installed racing pads, Phoenix Stahlflex 3011 tires (if you remember those, you too are OLD....) on Chromadora rims designed for a Capri and Bilstein shocks. Really, it hardly needed any work to make it perform as good as a detuned Prius today... Weren't the 1970s just GREAT for gearheads?

A truly amazing job! As it is a "keeper" I believe I would next move on to sanding down the body, and spray it with a rust sealer, or maybe an epoxy primer, awaiting your decision on finish, color and so on. This will at least keep the really rusty body parts from rusting through. Score this one as a big SAVE!

Your Videos are more relevant and important than the hundreds of "Will it Run" Videos on many KZread channels. We all know that 99% of the time those videos end with a sick smoking engine gasping for life. More important than just firing up an old engine is how to make it healthy, protect it from first time run damage and keep it running long term. You seem to be more in line with careful and methodical experts such as "Watch Wes Work" and "Diesel Creek".

The 70's were a very strange time. For a short while, automakers would sell you a car that, if you took it home and added a 4-barrel and twice pipes, you'd have a hot little car. All four of the Big Three would do this. But only a few specific cars did people figure it out - and the Mustang II was one of them. The other, was the AMC Gremlin. Because then you had cars like the Maverick Grabber. Very few takers. I guess you could slide the Demon Sizzler and Duster Twister in here too. AMC even offered the 360 in the Hornet (yes, even a Hornet hatchback!) with a 360 V8 with a 2-barrel and a single pipe. The DEALER would even offer to upgrade you to a 4-barrel and duals.... very few takers. Chevy Monza? Chevy had to stuff a 350 in the thing before people even noticed it. But even then, I couldn't say a ton of people took these cars home and modified them. Cosworth Vega?? Great idea. WAY too expensive. Gremlin and the Mustang II are pretty much the only cars I can think of that a significant amount of people bought, and then modified. The real muscle cars were still cheap and plentiful. I think only the Gremlin and the Mustang II stood out from the crowd enough to be considered stylish or "with it".

Maybe a linseed oil treatment could help clean it up. I would get cans of spray paint and do a custom Partridge family bus paint job. This is what you do. Have a massive kegger party, buy 100 cans of spray paint, all different colors, tape off all glass, chrome, tires and wheels, invite everyone to grab a can, then do a random Picasso modern, swirling, expressive artwork, with custom paint layers over more layers!!! When it's all done, it would then be clear coated and sealed, and then buffed to a high gloss. It would be a one of a kind paint job! It would be stunning! .

It's fun to see this car get some love. The Mustang II platform in general was undervalued at the time because of restrictions outside it's own control, but it really was the car that saved the nameplate while others fell by the wayside. As Dylan mentions in the video, the proportions are pretty awesome, and in honesty, closer to the original Mustang than the 69 - 73 models were!

If its a 302 I'd personally look around for a 302 roller motor. Ie factory roller lifter engine . Either a 306 or 331 would make a killer street machine in a mustang ll . Long tube headers will really wake it up as will a good 4bbl intake a at least a 650 carb. Vac secondaries for a auto dbl pumper for manual trans. 3.55 gears will give you good take off with little top end loss
