Aao Balma - A.R Rahman, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan - Coke Studio @ MTV Season 3

Ойын-сауық

This composition by A.R Rahman is 'legendary' in more than one way -- the composition is a masterclass in fusing the traditional power of Hindustani classical vocals, with Carnatic scales few have mastered. For this, it brings together the beautiful voice of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, accompanied by his sons and grandson; with the guitar genius of Prasanna trading blows with Sivamani's explosive percussion. This one will literally blow you away!

Lyrics :
Barsan laage nain hamar (tears pour from my eyes)
angarey hain thandi phuhaar, (even the cold shower feels like embers)
sooney hain merey aangan dwaar, (my doorway lies empty)
tum bin suna hai sansaar, (my life's desolate without you)
Aaisi yaad tumhari aa-e, (i long for you so much)
bekal manwa chain na paa-e, (my mind is never at peace)
chah-e- kaaley badarwa chah-e (and even if the sky clouds over)
kaun merey man ko samjha-e (who is there to console my heart?)
aabhi jao na satao (go, don't trouble me, now)
bandish lyrics and composition :- ustad ghulam mustafa khan.
Sthai;-
Aa-o aa-o aa-o balma (come my love/my beloved)
daras bin mora jiya ghabrawe (my heart becomes restless without the sight of you)
Antra;-
Din bitaa bha-e- saanjh (the day passes and turns to dusk,I find it tougher to be at peace)
howan laagi ren nahi chain (even this soothing brings me no solace)
piya inayat jaun topey waari (my beloved, i shower my love on you)

As a Tamilian, and listened to A R Rahman for almost 20 yrs, and despite knowing all his versatility, creativity and his range of classical Hindustani and Carnatic ragas he has operated across his career, this classical music, this one truly. Ladies and Gentlemen, we are truly listening to a surprisingly rare composition from A. R. Rahman. For one, throughout his career he has rarely composed any classical music in Hindustani Yaman Raga or Carnatic Kalyani Raga. Maybe Rajnikanth's Baba song 'Sakthi Kodu' was one. That was it. Thank You Rahman sir for making my wish complete. Since it is my favourite Raga and is such a mystic Raag in the way it enslaves the hearts like a Queen Enchantress. I am so glad you finally did compose one. 😍😍

That guitarist is one of the top and innovative guitarists to come out of this country. He's famous playing Carnatic Music on his Electric Guitar which is an extremely tough task. Not only that he's quite accomplished in jazz as well. Has been lauded by the likes of Guthrie Govanl. Has a degree with the highest of grades from Berklee College of Music in get this, Classical Composition and Jazz Composition. He's the one who wrote the String Arrangements for the Soundtrack of Lagaan. Based in New York now, he also comes down to South to record and do classical, fusion concerts. And has scored for some South Indian movies as well. And lastly, he was the joint founder of Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music - one of India's leading Music Schools for Contemporary Music. Ladies and Gentlemen, his name is Prasanna Ramaswamy.

This is the magic Indian musicians can produce. real fusion with great precision. Coke Studio pakistan invented this wonderful platform where musical geniuses collaborate in the language of music. But they were becoming stagnant with Sufi/hindustani/qawwali compositions which even though good are now sounding very redundant. I think its time Indian musicians take CS forward as we have much much more diverse music to take it to the next level, like Carnatic music, Lavani, those from the North east and much much more. if only our legendary classical singers can get a little more flexible and open to such collaborative music, I think heads all over the world will turn to "real" Indian music instead of boring bollywood club-music

CS India started very poorly, but once ARR and others came on board, I am feeling it is more wider in music genres. CS Pak has limitations like it doesnt have North Eastern, or Southern Indian music. The only issue is that CS India needs to bring the best from these genres and for that they need a superman like Rohail.

Ecstatic composition! The way ARR enjoys playing his piano is a sight to behold. Prasanna and Sivamani are amazing.

Incredible. What struck me the most is how... playful this song is. It's just like a jam session where everyone is having fun and showing off their skills. Rahman's piano playing was absolutely virtuosic.
