✈ A320 Engine Sound Battle | CFM56 Vs. IAE V2500
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Hello and welcome to SOUTHEND AVIATION!
Two aviation narrow-bodies power plants go head to head in this turbofan engine sound battle! The GE CFM56-5B up against the rival IAE V2500!
Be sure to post in the comments section below which engine you preferred in this video!
Just some info on both engines;
General Electric/Safran (to create CFM International) produce the CFM 56, the most successful turbofan engine ever produced. The name CFM56 comes from General Electric (who’s flagship engine was the CF6 at the time) and Safran who at the time were developing the M50. By joining the names of the CF6 and the M50 together the name CFM56 was born. The CFM 56 engine can be found on many different aircraft, from the A320 family, the 737 Classics and NGs and even re engines DC8s! In this video we show the CFM56-5B found on the A320 family. The thrust ranges from 21,600lbf to 33,000lbf, this is dependent on the aircraft variant/airline’s desire. The engine’s dry weight is 5,250lbs, with a bypass ratio of 5.5:1. CFM International have delivered more than 10,000 -5B models to date.
The IAE V2500 is a joint project from Rolls Royce and Pratt & Whitney. The aircraft actually was built by 5 engine manufacturers however the other 3 had either sold off there shares in the engine or folded. IAE stands for International Aero Engines and the V is the roman numeral for 5 (symbolising the 5 original companies who helped build the engine) The 2500 represents 25,000lbf, the intended thrust output the engine. The V2500 thrust output ranges from 23,500lbf to 33,000lbf with a bypass ratio of 4.8:1. The IAE weighs 5,300lbs on the 320 family but over 5,700lbs on the MD90. It’s not exactly clear how many engines have been built but it’s somewhere in the region of 8000.

I can definitely hear the rb211 once throttle reaches takeoff levels, indistinguishable subtle but powerful roar

P&w is military (the common nozzle assembly {looks like a hairdryer} usually makes loud exhaust)
IAE v2500 for me because it sounds like a mini version of RB211.

Funny you say that, I watched an RB211 start up video the other day and once it reached idle I did hear a hint of the IAE in there. I know all the Trents are based off the RB211, so perhaps the IAE is a scaled down model.

true that the fan diameter for RB211-535 for the 757 is a little bit bigger than IAE v2500

The overhead buzzsaw is my favorite because it’s what I generally hear. While I generally hear CFMs, the IAEs sound amazing.

Excellent video! I loved the IAE V2500 engine sounds! It's pure gold! Liked and subscribed!
The V2500 exhaust roar is music to my ears 😍😍😍
That’s really cool the Wizz pilots waved to you :)
Really stunning video mate!
Didn't know the IAE is louder when at full throttle than the CFM, great vid
@jedi_.66

It definitely is. Had one A320 or A319 (IAE) at EGBB (birmingham intl) come flying full throttle over my head. Loudest fucking engine for a smol aircraft. That and the 737-800.
Outstanding engine video comparison.
Thanks for creating and sharing 🙏🙏🙏
The best video ever on internet to compare engines from the same angle.❤ 👍frm FIJI ISLANDS.
Very nice sounds! They sound very similar at full power but you can still spot the difference
The engineering behind IAE is incredible. So many years of testing and designing with the best teams around. Leave it to PW, MTU and JAEC to do it right! Seeing the engine in person is also crazy, It looks smaller than you would think but is decently efficient and powerful. {the V2500 idle sound is literal music}
IAE V2500 really has the real roar
Gonna go with V2500 because of the joint ventures!

Love the IAE. Do a overhead flyby at or around 3,000 feet during landing if you can.. The IAE has a whine to it.
@RyanZ225_PC

Pretty sure thats the FOPP howling noise you’re referring to. I’ve heard it with both IAE and CFM, thats just a hole inside of the wing causing that howling noise which is not present on the neos as they’ve fixed it
@Wh0s.Sebas27
6 ай бұрын
@@RyanZ225_PC But why that hole causes it??
@Roboseal2
3 ай бұрын
@@Wh0s.Sebas27 Its like blowing over a bottle and getting that musical note. The hole is for fuel tank pressure.
You can make out V2500, when plane is flying buy by a whistling kind of sound. Did someone notice, when NEO approaches final turn on glide slope it makes sound if it suddenly reduces noise frequency to lower tone? Maybe it just revs down.
@vim9099
10 ай бұрын
You mean the low humming sound that's like a whale's cry? I read somewhere that it's caused by vibrations, similar to when you blow into the mouth of a bottle to produce a humming sound. This happens to the NEO engines when the blades spin at a specific rpm (either during spool-up or reduction of thrust during final approach). I don't know if my source was reliable, but it does make sense to me.

Just hits different, I wonder if it's because the exhaust is more open.
Nothing like the 3 engined Lockheed l-1011 TriStar with all three Rolls-Royce RB-211s
Hard for me to decide. But since the first A320s I've ridden were CFM56-5B powered, I'd go with them.

Meu Favorito o CFM-56 😊
As a baseball fan , these takeoffs remind me of the New York Mets stadium of hearing the background noise of these exact sounds
In my workplace we only have CFM and LEAP, It seems. I've only just discovered the IAEvs2500. I can even rn hear spoolup of aircraft every few minutes from my bedroom window as I'm typing this from Gatwick 🤣. But man. That IAE really sounded like the closest thing to the golden age of jet travel's screaming engines. I mean from the exhaust roar angle, she did scream like an old bird. Of course when I say this everyone will tell me to check out an RB111 but where do you see those nowadays eh? Great stuff. So IAE as you can tell from the comments...wins. Thankfully at least british Airways still uses them round here. But they are TINY in comparison to LEAPS. As nobody has to tell you. We all appreciated this video and the effort made to edit. Well done for all the wicked angles and such a close viewpoint where all pilots and literally all can see. This must be airport with most pilot waves!
Amo Os A320ceo Especialmente Com os CFM-56 ❤❤❤
CFM56 is a more pleasant sound, very reminiscent of the sound of old planes equipped with P&W and Rolls-Royce engines.

On the Volotea plane: it's such a weird place to put a marketing catch phrase such as "Maman, j'arrive!" as it translate to "I am coming mom!"... I mean they probably knew...
I lived close to EDDL and the CFM56s started annoying the hell out of me because of the perma buzz saw. This comes from an absolute aviation enthusiast. It‘s very cool to hear once in a while, but it‘s damn annoying when you hear it 40 times between 6 and 7:00 AM on a Sunday morning. I‘m on team IAE, it might be a bit noisier from the stats, but they sound so much better. Nice oldschool screach and big bad exhaust thunder.
I like the iae V2500 exhaust roar
Alway been more of a CFM guy but I can't wait for Fenix's new IAE version in MSFS!
@SOUTHEN AVIATION I just got the JustFlight 146
I have to say both engines sound nice but IAE's overhead buzzsaw sounds better than CFM's but at the same time I like the sound of CFM-56 engines at full power better than IAE but yeah both sound good.
Man those engines sound sweet like the rb211 some im guessing thats the iea 2500 engine
IAE v2500 generates the most pleasing, beautiful sound in the aviation universe
IAE is a consortium of Pratt and Whitney, Rolls-Royce, MTU, JAEC and Fiat Avio while CFM International is a 50/50 joint venture of GE Aerospace and Safran
I like IAE-V2500 because I haven’t heard Rb211 in a long time and it is so much like it so I like it better but CFM-56 is like PW-2000 and I hear that almost every day

They both sound like music! I say tie.
In NY my family lives close to LGA airport and normally when I'm there I hear both, but IAE is way better *for me* I like it more than the CFM56
I am like cfm56
bro risked his life standing this close. did u like sneak into the airport or something, or u work there, cuz i want to airploane spot from there!
I think the V2500's exhaust roar was a little too much for the camera's mic, it sounded like the Concorde's afterburners!
IAE v2500 because fitted to air New Zealand a320-200 aircraft
the iae is louder because the exaust tapers down and the air speeds increases and i think a bit more terbulant too, but the cfm56 takes the win for me
V2500 by far
The cfm 56 5A1 would be a better competitor for the iae
IAE for sure
cfm56 by far
I choose V2500 because its hum is great
For me, it’s going to be the CFM 56.
The exhaust roar comparison was a litle unfair since you filmed them at different angles
Hard to choose one🤔
I actually thought RR made the IAEv2500 because of it's slender design, but it was mostly made by Pratt and Whitney I honestly prefer it's sound slightly better, the design though it's a tie for me.
IAE is way more loud. I love it
LE CFM-56 CÁ ME FAIT PENSÉ A UNE ASPIRATEUR

Wish the 2500 was as reliable as it is musical. CFM definitely has a better maintenance record.
