The CFM56 makes a really nice spool up, as well as a very distinctive roar, while the mighty IAE is screaming at the top of its lungs, letting everyone around it know that it's ready for takeoff, followed by a loud and clear roar as the A320 rolls down the runway! The PW1100G might not sound all that impressive, but its revolutionary geared fan has proved its extreme reliability (not), low noise levels, and fuel efficiency. Choose your favorite!

V2500s all day, every day. They have the most character. Just the sound of them taxiing that shrill noise then the sudden switch from the spool up to the raw buzzsaw sound. Epic!
The CFM's gorgeous thrust-reverser doors make it an absolute favourite for me 😍

It means more efficient engine, noise is one of wasted energy.
They All Sound frikin Awesome. The Roar is Incredible on the IAE though
There's an airline that operate A320 with that distictive IAE V2500 roar flew past my house twice a day. I often smile because I can recognize the airline that flew past by the engine type :D
i used to be CFM fan boy but i have fallen in love with the IAE V2500 :P still love the CFM tho... i haven't forgot about it.

The engine that beats all a320 engines would be the CFM Leap 1A. The Pratt & Whitney PW1100G is my favorite out of the three in this engine battle.
I am a GE TF39 person.. but any turbo in general is sexy sounding! That metallic sound

The front fan (N1) spins at around 5600 rpm during take-off. At 1.56m diameter of the fan, this rpm makes the fan tips reach speeds of Mach 1.3 at sea level (1.3 times the speed of sound). That might be one of the reason for the buzzsaw.
I deeply hate the cabin music from the fibres of my soul, but, I have to say, that genuine PW PurePower roar accompanied by the notes of “Schindler's list” was absolutely gorgeous! If this is the standard on Air Astana...then Air Astana all the way!
IAE V2500 for me
Nice video! I prefer IAE V2500 because roar more ... and looks more powerful and reliable from the others two.

I prefer IAE for the sound too but it’s actually least powerful of em all
Definitely CFM 56 is my fav, especially on the A340!!!

0:23 Damn that was a late rotation, almost 40 seconds of running on the RWY...
While taking off the pw1100g I could go to sleep, wake up, make coffee and its still climbing
Nothing beats the roar of the IAE v2500 :)

CFM! What you gotta do is get a clip of the LEAP-1A and the original -5A a CFM the oldest A320s has and add it t this for the ultimate comparison

Same with the CFM Leap, no roar. Actually Leap is worse, becase the moment the wheels leave the ground all you hear is a sickening high pitched sound. How the hell do people find that pleasent? It totally took the enjoy out of sitting near the engine for takeoff. However I have noticed that on the new Leap and PW engines, you can hear some buzzsaw a few after takeoff as the plane climbs. Personally I like hearing engine noise because it gives you a feel of what the aircraft is doing if not sitting near a window or if in the clouds.

CFM 56 all the way
My favorite of all A320 engines is the CFM leap 1A.
Would have to say the P&W for how quiet it is when compared to the other 2.
Obviously if you ask someone that likes flying quietly he is gonna say pw1100, but aviation enthusiasts will probably decide between CFM and IAE, in my case IAE, it's definitly the best specially when going to full toga in increments and then the throttle goes to climb from toga, those changes in rpm on the IAE are just amazing and nothing compares to it, except well the IAE on the airbus A319, those are excellent too. I really like hearing that loud engine on take off, and I don't mind if it's a bit louder on cruise level, I got plenty of noise cancelling headphones and earphones to use when I go on holidays, not that expensive to have these days anyway and the engines generally are not what is louder on cruise level, it's just wind noise and cabin noise mostly.

LEAP-1A and IAE V2500 are my favs im not that fan of the CFM 56 but I kinda like it and I don't like the PW1100G, it barely makes any sound

My house is 150 meters away from the runway of shuofan International Airport in southern Jiangsu, China. I love the voice of Airbus electric clipper. I don't think it's noise. I enjoy it very much.

If there's anything i don't want to hear on a plane .. it's the supersad OST from Schindlers List...
IAE V2500 sounds great when spooling but the high pitch in flight i find irritating. the PW1100G isnt really a fair comparison due to no standing spool, music and chattering child. though seems relatively quiet in flight which is a big plus.
As a cabin crew I prever PW1100G is more Quite for my life 👍. Its give me less noice and healty ears for daily work in my entire life.

Hard choice, either the pw or iae. The iae's are just a tad more loud, so they probably win in my opinion
Wow, that PW1100G is QUIET! I love noise for entertainment, but the flight I'd rather be on for a few hours, is with the Pratt & Whitney engine.
I don't even need to watch the video to know I'll go for the IAEs!

For this battle, you forgot an engine in the NEO series and that's the CFM 1A LEAP, and I'll stick with the P&W and the IAE in the A320.

GTF...anytime. Those staying in urban areas will be fans of this GTF
V2500 any day of the week, though CFM56 is right up there with it.

Someone should make these engines into Utauloids
the CFM leap is as boring as the PW1100G... no noise,no scream.... I take an A320 Neo(Leap) on Air Malta when the plane was 1 mouth old. This silence is due to the presence of a reducer between the first fan and the second fan that makes the first fan, runs slower and therefore no longer screams. But against this reducer is a piece of wear, it requires a lot of monitoring and maintenance, to avoid what happened to the Air france A380 ,2 year ago

The Leap makes a horrible sickening high pitched noise the moment the wheels leave the ground. I hate it. Simply replaced one noise with another. However it has a nice spool up. Overall two boring engines. CFM Ceo my fav.

The reduction gear's main purpose is to increase fan efficiency. Lower noise is just an additional benefit.

I also think, the NEO engines a sound pretty dull and I miss the epic roar. But you have to think of the people close to the airport and the environment. We'll have to get on with the NEO engines as well, even though, they'll never be my favourite.
