I built a giant golf club and put tuned copper tubes and plates of steal on it and gave people golf clubs to try and play music. Some of my tubes were beaten so hard to be flattened and my laser destroyed. You can't take anything to Burningman and say don't climb on it, people will climb it. Its not the place for fragile art. Sorry what happened.

Very interesting. I like the geometrical knots. I wouldn´t have executed the Smiley and Peace symbol in such massive way though. It looks more like a showdown than passing peace message to the people. And the amount of redwood wasted for it isn´t symbolizing peace in my perspective. It´s rather war on nature.

Astounding. The expertise in geometry, trigonometry, material science and engineering are beyond the comprehension of the average person when they see this piece. That doesn't begin to touch the skill set and experience required. I truly believe you could see this in your mind's eye as it would appear when complete and how you were going to do it. You must have spent many nights laying awake just figuring out how to ... "make the tools so you could make the tool to make the parts". No doubt untold hours must have been spent calculating compound angles, material requirements and the time required to machine and fabricate each component, wood and metal. As a fellow craftsman I salute you, sir. Well done.

we were in SLT on monday driving around looking at properties. I saw your work in a driveway down a side street. I had to back up and pull down the street to see them closer. That was me in the white caravan that stopped in front of the drive where some of the pieces were. Even just by themselves sitting in a driveway they are Beautiful! I was amazed, I wondered, are they actually made of wood - or paper, maybe cardboard... I had to get out and touch the sculpture, thrilled to be touching hard wood, redwood... I have thot of those pieces everyday since, marveling at how wonderful they are, the time that obviously went into them, the Love, the Vision. Imagine my surprise when looking at some random KZread video on sticks that there they are in the sidebar! Thank you! Thank you for creating these, they are so wonderful. I am sorry that someone broke them. Thank you for making the videos and sharing this story. Ty, I never spare the glue, especially with redwood which soaks it up like a sponge.

Incredible. So glad you chose to document your amazing sculptures. Hugely Calder, and just wonderful.
I am just sitting here infront of my computer with my mouth opened. I admire not only your craftmanship but also your patience.
Amazing or wow just seems so small a comment.

Way to go Malcolm. I'm impressed and glad you went in with an open mind and left with inspiration and a contribution. I hope to bring my parents one day..
as a 36 year old woodturner I just want to express my awe at your work! you are a true inspiration!!!!!
That must have been painfully repetitive.
Man the skill and time required to make this project is amazing. You sir are a true craftsman. Thank you for showing us your work. Also I love the rubber bands when the clamps were no longer big enough to fit over it
Totally amazing-- Great to see such great father & son collaboration. Gifted.
Here I am making redwood furniture for those of less means, not anymore. Living the dream huh?

what?
Very interesting. I like the geometrical knots. I wouldn´t have executed the Smiley and Peace symbol in such massive way though. It looks more like a showdown than passing peace message to the people. And the amount of redwood wasted for it isn´t symbolizing peace in my perspective. It´s rather war on nature.

kulturfreund66 The "knots" are know as "orderly tangles." Would you feel any better if the redwood were recycled material?

@CabinDoor you don't know what waste is, although you are an example of it.
Well done.
No words can really describe the emensity or skill that's gone into this project Malcome, you are a true artist no doubt. Thank you very much for sharing this project with us on youtube. I was "glued" to the screen !!
The craftsmanship is absolutely amazing but I don't appreciate visual art at all. My loss I guess.

Non-visual arts. Music and rhythm. Visual art is expensive and I don't like my tax money spent on it and I quite honestly don't appreciate it enough to make it worth money.

The planning and prep and craftsmanship here is incredible. It is beautiful. But I agree, I don't think tax dollars should be spent on things like this. Shouldn't the attendees and the organizers be paying for it? Or whoever is making the profit?

I love the visual arts. I love the art deco of the Chrysler bldg, the Empire State bldg, Hoover dam. The more beneficial, the more accessible, and the more permanent, the better!

This is amazing! The message of love and peace and happiness was really good for me. I needed it. I'm not going to watch the second part jet because I think it may hurt me right now. But something when I get better I may. Awesome project, incredible good. I don't know what else to say. Thank you!
What a vision ...and an incredible amount of skill, effort, and patience.... experience and foresight. Amazing.
Such patience and dedication! Well done.
This is incredible. I never cease to be amazed at what the mind of man can conceive . And tha ability to see something so esoteric by the power of YT. Thankyou
Wow - that is incredible. I am utterly amazed at this build and the design process behind it - it is beyond my thought process capabilities. Scott
The real genius here is your ingenuity with clamping! Incredible work, you're competing on a different level.
This was simply amazing to watch ! Thank you
we were in SLT on monday driving around looking at properties. I love the details of the builds, it reminds me of the desire in me to make art, to build things just cuz they are so cool... Thank you!
Wow! Thank you for making that piece and sharing it.
That is truly one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. You and your son are both amazing artists! That woodwork is astounding.
Really an amazing piece of work - I'm glad KZread made this a suggestion for me. And what a wonderful collaboration between father and son. I'm actually afraid to watch part II.....
Wow Malcolm - incredible vision and the passion to see this through. It's truly amazing and I wish I could see it with my own eyes.
That is quite a piece of work. Hours of planning and hours of work to produce a superb sculpture. Thanks
When I see inspiring work like this, my inner creativity screams and pounds on the inside of my brain, "Let me out. Let me out!" It is so painful.
Omg this could be my most favorite video on KZread of all times! There are so many amazing things in this video that I've never seen before about woodworking! Thank you so much!
Malcolm, I took your one day class in Reno a few years ago. You never stop amazing me.
