Cool info!
This is a true classic from that era. You guys should also react to The Staples Singers 1972 song "I'll Take You There" . The group was composed of a father and his children. Also check out the group Honey Cone and their song "Stick Up" from 1971. Their song "Want Ads" came out first in 1971. Amber, you'll love Honey Cone. They're a girl group!

Ohmigosh, Honey Cone! My favorite is "One Monkey." I much prefer that to "Heard It in the Want Ads."
Another act from the 60's I really think Amber will like is The Friends Of Distinction. Their big hit was called Grazing In The Grass. I would describe their style and sound as hippy soul.

Its 1.50am here in the UK. This music is my generation. I remembered every line and my feet were dancing. Thank you.❤
If you want 60s soul and basslines, I suggest you check out Jackie Wilson's "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher". It's one of the best songs ever made and a big hit for him. Eventually you're gonna hear it in a movie and wonder who sings it.. guaranteed.

I love that song so much! I also like the funny music video. I think it's one of those videos made after his death as a tribute.
The power, range, and flexibility of her voice made Sarah Vaughan, known as "Sassy" or "The Divine One," one of the great singers in jazz. With her rich, controlled tone and vibrato, she could create astounding performances on jazz standards, often adding bop-oriented phrasing. One of her most memorable live performances is "Sarah Vaughan - Misty (Live from Sweden) Mercury Records 1964". It would be a perfect Female Friday song to react to.
I was 8 years old when this song came out. I had a transistor radio that had one “earbud” on a wire with an attachment that plugged into the phone. The radio had an antenna that I would stick out a small opening in the window when I’d ride in the car for family trips to the Jersey shore. This way I could listen to whatever I wanted on the radio. WABC was my favorite station (it was an east coast channel). And I LOVED “Rescue Me”. Her voice and that R & B sound mixed was simply irresistible. ❤️
This song reminds me of the first Sister Act movie. If you havent seen it yet, I know you will definitely love it and its sequel. Wholesome, funny and great music. One of Whoopi Goldbergs most iconic roles😁

This is off-subject, but I really hope you give us some Tony Bennett soon. This amazing man died today at age 96 and my heart is broken. You reacted to his duet with Amy Winehouse, but I'm not sure that you ever did a song with just him. His most well-known hit was probably "I Left my Heart in San Francisco" but really, anything he sings is fantastic. He never stopped singing and toured with Lady Gaga recently. His voice still held up like he had barely aged. RIP Tony, one of the last of the great crooners.

Yes, there definitely were electric basses by 1965. The Fender Precision was the first electric bass that got widespread use, it was introduced in 1951
Only in the 60's did you get this style music. I heard it, I felt it, I loved it.
Another iconic song! Love it...glad you got to share it with us ❤😊✌️
There was a great Motown girl group that I know you both will love. Martha and the Vandellas. You can start with "Heat Wave" which was a hot summer song. It was great to dance to. My wife won a dance contest in Coney Isand while this song was playing..
My goodness this takes me back in time. Still as good today as it then.
Such a great song. This lady has a fantastic voice and the baseline and horns are nice.
This was a HUGE radio hit that year. Had the real Motown groove.
I grew up in the 60s enjoying this fantastic Northern Soul song. Thanks for playing it.
This is a really iconic song. It's been in plenty of movies/tv shows. Just a true classic.
Fun story about the humming, she says in one take she dropped the lyrics and hummed while she picked them up because she didn't want to interrupt the musicians. Producer made her do it again and made it part of the song in the final cut
Over here in the UK we call it Soul, Stax early Motown had a style. When both Mo and Stax toured Europe the artists couldn't believe the reactions. Especially in the UK. They saw black and white Youth sat together, dancing together. It really opened their eyes. In Germany and Sweden there were police in the side aisles to stop people dancing. Not here in the UK, it was enjoy yourselves.

They were also shocked at the poverty and conditions people lived in in the Northern towns. Also at the fact our police didn't have guns.
This was a very popular song & on the top 100 chart !! I remember dancing to this as a teen 🤗 Fontana has a voice like Queen Aretha 💓. Thanks for bringing this one to your Female Friday special, very special memories 🎷🎺🥁🎸❤️🔥
Brings back happy memories of all the Northern Soul gang from my local youth club in the seventies...the UK really embraced this kind of music, even more than the USA back then...😊✌🇬🇧

Everyone loved the vibe of this song back in the sixties, I always considered it as a summer song. Having said that anytime it came on the radio the volume went up…🍺😎
One of the first songs I ever heard on my brand-new record player back in 1977. My parents had a greatest hits record that included this song and I thought it was fantastic.

I remember hearing it as a kid and thinking it was Aretha Franklin at first. It wasn't until my older sister returned home from college one year, that I found out it Fontella Bass. I called radio stations but was ignored because I was 6 back in 1974. I didn't know the song was that old back then.
PROPER TUNE!! Love playing this on my Bass. MORE 60’s-70’s Soul PLEASE.✌🏻🏴
LOVE this song! Me and a friend would sing it all the way to school everyday pretending we had boyfriends lol. 6th graders.....oh well . Love the memory ... haven'T heard it in years!
As soon as I saw the name, it played in my head. Once you've heard it, it stays with you ❤
If you haven't already, you should listen to Etta James "Tell Mama". Funky bass, loads of horns, and a blistering vocal. From around the same time as "Rescue Me".
I read the title, and this song is so infectious it began running through my head. Now hearing it it will be stuck there for Days.
PHIL SPECTER'S RECORDINGS USED "THE WALL OF SOUND" FOR ALL HIS PRODUCTIONS!👍👍👍👍🎵
OH YEAH! As Bob Seger would say...SOME FUNKY OL' SOUL!! I haven't heard this in DECADES... SOUNDS SO GOOD!!
Some more R&B 60s for female friday are Barbara Lynn (guitar player) - You'll Lose A Good Thing; Erma Franklin (Aretha's sister and original singer of) - "Cry Baby"; Gloria Jones - Tainted Love (covered by Soft Cell, sampled by Rihanna); The Crystals - He's A Rebel; The Shirelles - Baby It's You, Soldier Boy, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, Mama Said, Dedicated To the One I Love; Irma Thomas - Time Is On My Side.
This is me growing up, dancing with my mom when she was doing her spring cleaning, blasting this out the open doors and windows for aaaaall the neighbors to think whatever, and I'm born in - 76, in Sweden. It's cold here! Didn't matter to her if the spring had actually arrived, the ground could be covered in snow still, but when the date came so did my mom's spring cleaning and Ms Bass! Thank you for this!
Oh, I love this song from the 60’s, danced to this in my teens.👍🩵💜
Another song from the 60s That was another hit. Love that song. Love her voice and I'm glad you did this one

I do not remember a time when I did not know this song! Still love it!💖
Legendary and instantly recognisable! Often confused for the Supremes (although they did cover this).
This one sits right at the top of the mountain of great sixties songs. I'm totally with the 'more horns' cry but to be honest, it should be 'more music like this music'. There are bands and artistes doing this sound but you have to look beyond the saccharin of the charts.
Thanks for showing some love to this wonderful artist, & that good ol' soul sound!
You definitely put a smile on my face... and a tear in my eye! What a great song. And what great memories listening to this song on my Aunts record player. Just as rocking now as it was then.
Great blast from the past. Definitely a song to dance to with all my friends at home in my bedroom at a sleep over. Had so much fun! How about "Johnny Angel" by Shelly Range is Controversy now much you loved Stephanie Mills voice singing "Home". Its time to react.to her again....2 songs both, both from Sinbsd's summer concert ...( Live outdoor concert) ' Feel ThevFire" and " I Feel Good All Over" ( play the video 'til the end when she comes back out to do an encore) Lena Horne: "Stormy Weather" ( video ..live) Nancy Wilson: " The Very Thought of You" (video live) Connie Francis: " Who's Sorry Now" (:video) Miss Patti LaBelle: " Lady Marmalade" ( video) Tina Turner: " Good to Me" .( Video) Cher: " Gypsies,Tramps and Thieves" (video) Cher and Tina: "Shame, Shame, Shame ( live video from the Cher Show)no Was just revisiting your reaction to " We Are The World". R.I.P Mr Tony Bennett Passed away yesterday at the age of 96 Rest Easy Mr Bennett
I was born at the tail end of 1964(a week before Christmas🤶) but this song was “still” a staple of pop radio when I was a child! I remember hearing it all the time back then! I can also recall someone having this 45. I’m guessing it must’ve been my oldest sister because she was in junior high at the time this came out. She turned 13 about two months after I was born. She’s 71 now! Thanks 🙏 again for the memories guys. Love 💕 that song 🎶
This song is a classic. This may have been her only hit. Definitely a stomper in trivia games!
Future Earth, Wind and Fire members Maurice White and Louis Satterfield on drums and bass respectively. Minnie Riperton on background vocals.
Likin that Motown sound with "Rescue Me". Nice instrumental mixing it up with that electric bass guitar. and bluesy rock and roll. Very nice soulful voice make it a classic groove. Thanks , Jordan and Amber. Love you and your little ones. Much peace, love, and happiness.

It wasn’t a Motown recording ,but it’s rumoured that the Funk Brothers ,who were Motown’s in house studio band , sneaked away and did some moonlighting ,doing the backing on this recording .
This 71 year old Marine was a young Teenager when this came out in 1965.
I was 14 and remember dancing to this 45 with my friends or at school dances, I grew up with the best music!
Solid Gold Classic! Love hearing it again, You Guys! This is what we all loved as young Teens! I can't recall Her from other top 40 hits, but that's a SHAME! Powerful voice. Great Reaction... Agree Amber... Great Name!
Love this song
Linda Ronstadt did a great live cover with future Eagles Don Henley and Glenn Frey backing her up.
Finally back to the 60’s with the amazing Fontella Bass.
One of the all-time great songs, it held the #1 spot on the R&B charts for four weeks in 1965. Another all-time great from the era you should react to is 1960's "Calendar Girl" by Neil Sedaka. (Sedaka is a great rabbit hole to delve into, lots of hits)
This song reminds me of the Sister Act movie. It plays on the soundtrack 😊
Rescue Me was in John Lennon's Jukebox .One of his 40 Favorite Songs
Bass revealed to The New York Times in 1989 that her call-and-response vocals for this song weren't intentional. She recalled, "When we were recording that, I forgot some of the words. Back then, you didn't stop while the tape was running, and I remembered from the church what to do if you forget the words. I sang, 'Ummm, ummm, ummm,' and it worked out just fine."
This is one of the greatest recordings of all time

Somehow (and I'm fortunate for this) I heard all of the songs throughout my life. Your channel should be must-listen music for all kids. These are songs we all need to know.
Minnie Riperton provided background vocals, and Maurice White on drums, and Louis Satterfield on bass, later in the band 'Earth, Wind & Fire'
One of my favorites. So happy you are reacting to it. This song does not get enough love
Amber-I feel the same way-what happened to the horns! I’m an 80’s girl and noticed them disappearing like mid 90’s. I always loved the sax solo’s!
A 60's fave, for sure! Thanks for posting and reacting to it. Love you both
One of the best songs ever!!
Love this song! It's one of those songs you turn up the radio in the car and sing along.
I've heard this song hundreds of time before but I was this day old when I finally found out her name.
This was one of my favourite songs as a kid, I used to listen to it on my dads old 45s
Yes ! Remember this .I was 4 years old in 1965 🎵🎶
Iconic bass line.
Fontella Bass was married to the great jazz trumpeter Lester Bowie, and made some recordings with the avant-garde jazz group he was part of, the Art Ensemble of Chicago. "Theme de Yoyo" is the best known song they recorded together.
Minnie Riperton-background vocals.....Maurice White and Louis Satterfield, later of Earth, Wind & Fire, were on drums and bass guitar respectively
Sweet soul music of the 60s. Impossible to sit still to this one. Check out the song "Sweet Soul Music" by Arthur Conley from '67.
All I think of when I hear this song is the movie Sister Act... lol
Great song. Still fills the dance floor.
You’ll have to watch the Sister Act movies. Both movies completely filled with music like this + hilarious too. ❤️
Always a favourite ,plays on my mp3 collection on stereo plus known from "Air America" (1990) movie with Robert Downey Jr hanging from helicopter with Mel Gibson flying.
This has the classic “60s r&b/soul sound. Great sound!
I love the music in the 60s, I agree you should do The Staples, you loved them when they did "The Weight with The Band, They took us to church, They sang at most MLK speeches.. Watch The Staples Respect Yourself / I'll Take You There" induction into Rock and Roll hall Of Fame.
Loved your reaction to this 60's classic, I have often danced to this one in the past! For something different for Ladies night try 'Holding on' by Beverly Craven, I think you would dig it as it moves you inside-Colin Ward

Yes! Also the song "Love Scenes" from her follow-up album and another track from that album that has a blazing guitar solo from Jeff Beck. I can't remember the title of that track. Others I would recommend they haven't touched would be Nicky Holland, Tanita Tikaram, Anggun, Basia, Julia Fordham, Julie Cruise, can't get enough Dusty Springfield and Lulu also someone rarely mentioned nowadays is Laurie Anderson. Call me strange, but I have always been fascinated with British female vocalists, especially once the 80's and 90's gave us so many.
A song you make like that was released in 1970 that thanks to instrumentals has a late 60s vibe is Freda Payne’s - Band of Gold .
