A Tribute to Joe Ranft

Фильм және анимация

Saturday March 13, 2010 the great PIXAR and Disney story artist would have been 50 years old. Joe was one of the prime creative people behind PIXAR and a major contributor to Toy Story, a Bug's Life, Cars. Joe was tragically killed in an automobile accident 5 years ago. This is a visualization of anecdotes I heard about my friend and colleague Joe.

As a voice actor who grew up with his character, his influence upon me is profound. As a writer, his contributions to Pixar and Disney movies had an even GREATER effect upon me. Joe Ranft... you may be gone, but you shall never, ever be forgotten.

It was six years ago that Joe Ranft died in a tragic car accident. Not only was Joe a globably significant creative talent whose characters made humans a better, kinder, gentler, funnier species of critter, but he was also an amazing neighbor who knew and loved everybody. Is there any better kind of man on earth? To know Joe was to love Joe!

What a beautiful and fitting tribute. Joe was the greatest teacher I ever had (and I had some great ones). I wouldn't have had a career without him. I had a couple setbacks, and I would have packed up and gone home in defeat if he hadn't seen something in me. I keep a little plastic cereal prize of the caterpillar in my office and remember him every day, and I'm so grateful to have known him and been inspired by him.

Joe was a great teacher at CalArts and loved by everybody. He put me up for a number of jobs over the years (got me my very first one) and I honestly don't know if I go a day without thinking of him. When it came to story, Joe was the A List, and when it came to human beings, same thing.

It's a yes. Didn't mean to turn this into a huge name-drop, just wanted to pay tribute to my teacher and friend. On my first job as a lowly animation intern I used to hang out with Joe after hours in the office he shared with Burny Mattinson during "Rescuers Down Under". Great time in my life. Over the years we stayed in touch here and there and he was always putting me up for jobs- (almost always way outside of L.A. ). I went to lunch with him at Pixar shortly before I left the business and that's the last time I saw him. But his influence on animation and film storytelling will live on.

It will be five years this Monday... we lost this giant of a man... and I still miss him. I play this tribute often and admire how much of a professional and human being he will be in the hearts of story tellers and creators all over the world. The medium used here is the catharsis of how we are able to shape the world near and close to us as we see it. Please remember that every day we create the storyboards of our lives and we do this by loving design.

Very cool video. Like the "story board" theme. Fitting as Joe himself was a storyboard actor as well as voice actor and animator and great guy and funny.....you get the idea. Long Live Pixar!!! the Legendary animation studio Joe helped to create. Again Awesome tribute 5 stars.

all of the drawings used in John Musker's tender and touching tribute are featured in John Canemaker's new MUST-HAVE book for any fan of Joe Ranft and/or Joe Grant. Wonderful stories and the ice cream parlor stunt hillariously involved more than just spewing strawberry sundae topping. Joe, then a teenager, flopped on the ground and "went into convulsions" as dozens of patrons fled in horror. Sorry, I think that's funnier than the Jet Blue guy and his take two beers and jump.

that's simply magnificent, utter tragic shame. I hear the some new voice recording technology that can record and mimic your voice, once recorded in any dialogue. They should do that for Joe Ranft so his voice can heard and legacy lives on in Pixar films.
