Hey! As someone who was raised in a cult, the whole, "keep your cup empty," thing is a HUGE red flag. Cults love to manipulate you, especially by using very specific and thought-out words/wording. It's very intentional so as to keep you from independence. Idk if it's an actual cult, but if you ever wanted to dig deeper and find out, I'd recommend using Steven Hassan's BITE model. As always, love the videos!

I wasn't raised in a cult but I research a lot of them and have been a huge fan of so many documentaries on various cults throughout the years and "trust the process" is also a huge red flag I've seen over and over again when there are interviews with ex cult members when they first joined the cult they were in; it's a way to get people to lower their defenses and ignore their intuition telling them to turn and run.

He doesn’t just scam tattoo artists. I have a few pieces by him, my first one was my first tattoo ever, it was before he owned a shop, he was tattooing in someone else’s shop and showed up an hour and a half late to our appointment. That probably should’ve been enough for me to not come back. My next one was done in his new shop while he was opening it, first of all he charged full day or half day sessions so your pay for 12 hours and hours of it was him taking a “smoke break” and then coming back an hour later each time. Meanwhile you still pay for those hours he’s outside. I paid for 18 hours in total on one of my pieces (Probably was only actually tattooed 12 hours in total with how many hour long breaks he took) and it still isn’t finished, every artist I’ve seen after tells me i was scammed because there’s no way what i got should’ve ever taken that long especially being unfinished. I never finished that one and ended up getting one more tattoo by him. This tattoo fell out quite a bit and he offered free touch up sessions, when i came In for the touch up he said it wasn’t healed enough so I’d have to come back. I came back a couple months later and he told me he no longer offers free touch ups and it would be $300 to touch it up unless i wanted to pay for another 12 hour session for my other tattoo to “finish that one up” then he would just “pop down or the other one and touch it up for free”. I told him that seemed unfair as he originally offered touch ups for free but sent me home and told me to come back later just to then charge $300. He never replied to this. Such a bad taste in my mouth about this guy.

You gotta stop taking bites once you get a bad taste, and that's when he showed late (I'm assuming without a heads up). I recently showed up on time to a piercing consult (with potential procedure following) and the Health Department was there - no heads up. The piercer took one look at me and promptly started trying to talk me out of my piercing. They didn't lay a finger on me to assess my anatomy, but were already talking about the difficulties a client with said anatomy would likely face. As she was talking, I knew that would be the last time I sat across from this person. A simple checking of their appointment book by their receptionist, which they do have, would have saved me driving a hr to sit for 5 minutes to listen to bs, then a hr back. A simple check for anatomy would have saved the piercer from making up an on the fly speech about keloids that I'm not prone to. Or thick cartilage on ethnic features...that I don't have. I only share the ethncity. So there was some weird generalizing of my body WITHOUT even taking into account my ACTUAL features? Anyway. I called a new shop, showed up to the consult, got the piercing; its healing like a dream. Get a bad taste? Spit it out. Keep educating yourself on shop etiquette, and use your instincts and discernment; it's there for your protection.

I can't say I'm fully surprised to see this episode. I got roped into one of his onboarding zoom sessions to go over his TBM program...and let me tell you: from step one to the end I could see the entire funnel. The salesmanship, the stereotypical charismatic leader personality, the steps taken, and even the little things to make the entire group of strangers start getting into that "cult" mindset (groupthink lingo and specific actions to perform) was obvious to me. Then he dropped the price bomb. He wanted 3k for like 2-3 months of this program. I felt like there was micro expressions present that cracked the mask and I was out. It didn't feel genuine. It felt like there was an underlying darkness but I couldn't put my finger on it

Agreed! I recently found out that an artist I've known for nearly ten years is not only a transphobe but also an anti-masker, covid denier, woman hater, christian nationalist and raising his son to be the same way. This guy is a "misfit" punk rocker dude and only 27 so I was incredibly surprised. We've talked extensively about our support for LGBTQ+ and the fact my 38-year-old husband almost died from covid last year... He was a family friend... I want to raise awareness of him but I don't want to damage the two other artists' reputations as they don't act that way and are good people. How does this misogynistic boys club still exist in 2023?! 🤦‍♀️ 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🥝💚🖤

I’m only a quarter of the way through the video and I HAD to comment. This guy’s got more red flags than the seat of Chinese government has on its roof. 1) He’s clearly high during the podcast videos. Consistent nose scratching and face rubbing. I’d be shocked if he’s not. 2) While I’m not in Ohio, I worked for the court system for several years in my home state. No WAY someone with 14 pending armed robbery charges gets plead down to probation. You could plead to maybe 5 of the most serious ones with some prison time and A LOT of backup time with probation. But no way someone is charged with 14 violent crimes and walks away without a DOC number. Clearly stranger things have happened, but I call bullshit. There would have to be many mitigating circumstances for this to be even a possibility. It’s obviously part of his grift and “god fixes everything” schtick. So many nopes…

I had to stop going to my go to tattoo artist because he is still on the Matt Clemer philosophy. The last time I got tattooed was by my favorite artist he asked if he could put on a podcast and I said “go for it”. We were finishing up my 4th tattoo by him. This is when my tattoo artist started telling me how he came across Matt Clemer and that he signes up for his “classes”. He also proceeded to tell me that he was only looking to do big tattoos and only half to full days. That was my first red flag as I can’t even sit for more than 4 hours due to having sensitive skin and nor do I want huge pieces personally. His prices were going to be going extremely up as well. He had told my boyfriend and I that he already had lost a lot of clients, but wasn’t concerned since he thought that he’d grow his clientele again. Another red flag was the way Matt Clemer spoke in his podcast. Matt spoke in ways to overemphasize what he was talking about just by his body language and speech alone. I had known by then that it would unfortunately be the last time I was going to see my go to tattoo artist. The way he was speaking himself was just not the same compared to when I first started seeing him. It felt like he was more so focused on the money rather than the art itself. His passion for his art was one of the reasons why I loved getting work from him. I almost was willing to save the money to be able to continue to see him since I even thought I was crazy to think that these red flags were valid in the first place because ya know “trust the professional”. I still support my old artist via social media, but no longer go to him. I have since found a few other tattoo artists that genuinely care about their art and clients.

Most scammy training will offer lots of freebies, but make you bring more people, then they use their techniques so that when they drop the huge cost news after a few classes, you're much likelier to pay. There are real, honest personal development trainers out there - they give you price info up front, and they promote themselves abd hope you do too, but would be absolutely embarrassed to pressure attendees to recruit others. At most, you'll get a referral discount or a 2 for 1 package, but real trainers don't rely on longterm devotees, and presume that they will work with you for a limited time, get paid, and move on. If you can't see a reasonable business model at work, RUN!

Me personally I am actually shocked that I’m seeing a video on Matt because I used to watch his podcast and I thought he was just the coolest guy ever and I loved his cohosts and what not. So, this is very shocking to me that he is up to no good, especially like this, I also wonder how his cohosts feel about this situation. There was a period of time where the Tattoo Guardians podcast would like all of my stories. I don’t know if it was their way of trying to get me into his cult or anything but I thought it was cool at the time but now watching this video I’m just like yikes! Idk these are just my thoughts. I feel really bad for Robbie and how his business almost folded because of Matt’s scam. Also the fact that Matt lied about being roofied pisses me off even more. He was speaking softly and making everyone feel very comfortable, but I did notice that all he did was walk around the shop seeing what was going on. After my session I followed Matt along with most of the other artists on Instagram and immediately got the cult vibes from all his videos. Hardly anything was actually about his tattoos, it was all about promoting his courses and how he can help you make more money in the business. Thankfully the artists I spent the day with getting work done are at other shops (Josh has his own shop now, get it Josh!) and I can't wait to get more work from them!

I recently accompanied my bestie for her latest tattoo. Her artist has tattooed for 18 years in the area. She's been his friend/ client for her adult life. I started to mention my latest artist (Hip) and went on to question why he'd recently left his last shop Aisle9 because Clemmer was this amazing lovable Yada Yada ect. And he cut me straight off like: THAT GUY IS AWFUL! he probably left because he finally seen his true colors. And he sent me here to you and this vlog. My mind is BLOWN LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!! as I've met him in person and could easily see how you could drink the tea of his peace and love and light. I also frequented his podcast and loved his entire crew of AMAZING ARTISTS and associates. They are all very kind and honest loving individuals with high integrity. Make no correlation with Matt. I have nothing but the most positive memories in my mind from Aisle9 and it is clear to me it had absolutely nothing to do with Clemmer himself, except for his larger than life reputation. (back then of course) Hip is one of the coolest fun loving artist and I consider him a pal of mine. I believe through your efforts and the ambitious people who were victimized by his tactics that were brave enough to come forward, this too shall pass, and we can avoid a "LOVE HAS WON" "father God" situation and hopeful, potential Artist and business owners can flourish without taking a hit from added outside interference, as it is already difficult to have the means and confidence to build success. THANK YOU FOR THIS XO. You're amazing.

I find this so funny for one reason. My school invited this guy to the school for career day and everyone who was in his group said he was creepy and made them uncomfortable. I haven't watched this video yet but I just think it's funny to say the school did not research him before allowing him in our school because this was the first result when googling his name to try to check him out. Multiple girls said he was making them uncomfortable. One girl in specific said that he would stop his presentation mid sentence just to talk to her, he winked at her, and asked for her number. Multiple people saw this and can vouche. Can confirm at the very least hes a creep

I’m a 3rd year tattoo artist and have only 7.6k followers on instagram and a few months ago Matt reached out to me via DM and kept sending messages when I didn’t reply. He was trying to get me to listen to specific episodes of the podcast and ask questions about my business plans. Seems like the crew is pretty desperate for new cult members/victims. Not even sure how they found my page in the first place. I ignored the messages and just stumbled upon this video and I’m floored. Glad I didn’t fall for this mess!

I think this sort of thing is an unfortunate side effect of tattoos becoming more widely accepted which has led to more and more people people getting tattoos. With any industry or product gaining popularity there is always people who will try to find ways to get as much money out of it as possible. Greed is one of the most vile attributes of humanity and sadly one of the most common. I am broke as hell and my family are seriously but I could NEVER screw people over or manipulate someone for financial gain. I would never be able to live myself and I don’t know how so many people are able to do it so easily.

Hello! As someone who was employed by Robbie at Rad, this is infuriating to see. He was not a victim to Matt, he was just as bad. The reason he currently doesn’t have any other artists besides him and his fiancé working at his shop is because every artist left on their own. I will only speak for myself: Robbie is a predator and has no room offering help to anyone. The Rad Movement is a cult, and for someone who claims to be a “life coach” he is the absolute antithesis.

As someone who moved their whole life, and family. Spent every penny pretty much we had to move to Florida to work with Robbie…this is 100% accurate. Robbie preys on the weak, and people in need of “guidance”..under the guise that he is a “life coach”…..Robbie raised his prices to 10k a day ON. HIS. OWN. ACCORD! Trust me…I was there for ALL of this. I wanted nothing to do with Matt Clemer. Robbie constantly was pushing us to join, and saying it was the best thing he had done. I personally felt it was scammy from the get go. But I can confirm that Robbie took 99% of what was said in those classes, out of context, and ran with it. Many of the artist that were there pleaded with Robbie not to raise his prices that high, or making us raise our prices as well (yes they would manipulate us into trying to make more money, to line THEIR pockets). Remember…people can look great on social media! They can also even wear a mask so good, and so real that even in person you think “wow! Robbie is great!” But until you work with the him, live with him, are yelled at by him, ridiculed by him, and watching a whole shop fear him and his gf when they showed up to the shop….you don’t REALLY know him. There is a reason everyone left…and no it wasn’t Matt Clemer who caused it.

  • @zakdiamondstoystattoos4315

    @zakdiamondstoystattoos4315

I also would like to add, Robbie himself tried starting MULTIPLE self help classes, tattoo school opportunities, and various other ways to obtain large amounts of money from people. Some self help classes he ran were running people up to a few thousand to join…I fail to see how Robbie can be viewed as anything different than that of Matt.

WHEW! Before I even got to the ten minute mark, where you begin to discuss their spirituality, my brain was going 🚩🚩🚩. I couldn’t quite put my finger on why exactly, then it dawned on me that they sound like every “cool” youth pastor and preacher I grew up with. Bonus points if they had tattoos or said a bad word occasionally. Also, I hear/see a lot of similarities in this and Matthew Mcconaughey’s vibe with the whole “relatable guru” thing.

Love the cozy autumn vibes! 🍂🍁👻🎃 Also, to take a stab at your question at the end, capitalism. We live in a society where money is king and I’m not surprised we’re seeing more and more “schemes” to gain as much money as possible from people in a world where you’re value mis directly tied to your monetary worth. It’s deeper, more nuanced and definitely darker than that but it do truly think our increasingly capitalist world is driving things like this.
