Hello my darlings. I’m here to say I’m incredibly sorry for using a word and phrase in this video that is a slur towards Inuit people. I wasn’t aware at all and I appreciate everyone who has let me know and truly thank you for holding me accountable and informing me. It is of course never my intention to offend or harm anyone and i always try to be super mindful of the language I use and to be inclusive. I feel terribly that I have caused harm in this video but completely understand the upset that people are feeling towards me. Of course moving forward I’ll make sure to never say that word or phrase again. 🩷

100%. As an artist, if I have messed up when quoting & it's actually going to take longer than I originally anticipated or whatever - THAT IS ON ME!! I don't care if your tattoo takes me an extra freaking WEEK, if I have quoted you a set price, then, provided nothing drastically changes with the design or placement - THAT IS THE PRICE! It's MY fault as the artist that I didn't ask for enough money, NOT their fault as the customer for expecting me to stick to my word! If I've told you "two sessions at x rate", that is all I'm charging.

I actually didn't realize this since I've only had two tattoo experiences. My artist told me at my last tattoo appointment that he should have asked for more because it was more work than he expected. I told him it was ok to charge me more since it was just an estimate, but he said no, and that it was his mistake. He has a few issues with as an artist, but at least I know he has honor.

That seems completely reasonable. Something I've learned is that if something costs significantly less or MORE than the going rate, it's a scam. The only exception is actual celebrities and honestly, you probably won't be much happier with their stuff than a slightly high end version of the same thing. There's a celebrity personal trainer who charges 15 grand for his plans. He himself said that it is a lot and you won't get better results with him, than you would with any other good trainer. When you gave the prices per session my heart stopped even my largest tattoo was a fraction of those extortionate prices and it's on my chest/collar bone area. When I've made appointments and paid for a deposit it was for the artist to hold that time slot for me and then used towards the final tattoo payment and if we didn't use as much time as we scheduled I've been refunded. Also my artists have never taken my inspiration photos and completely ignored them. That's awful and I'm sorry that these people were roped into this dumpster fire.

My artist was super understanding, sat and chatted with me until my ride got there. She only charged me for supplies (cause she opened them) and she DIDNT take my deposit. I actually asked if she was because I was totally down and understanding if she did and to resupply a deposit for future apps but she outtright refused. Bcuz I showed up and tried and my body said no, but I tried so she said no. I am pretty sure I tipped this woman as much as my tattoo cost, lol.

(Which is understandable since every piece is different and some people will be entitled if you show a price) but the result is I genuinely can't even tell what is a correct price range for a certain size tattoo. I know plastic surgery is a few k$ so my guess is people think something as permanent can also be a few k$

I think it's a few things: I don't think it's a coincidence that every victim of Tattogate that we've seen has been a woman. Women are generally socialized to smooth over conflict, refrain from being confrontational, and are discouraged from being clear and authoritative about decisions involving their own bodies. You see the effects of all this in everything from fashion to medicine, but it's a particularly toxic combo when you're talking about a scam artist who is deliberately leveraging these things to manipulate her female customers (and I suspect is also using the fact that she herself is a woman to build trust with these victims before fleecing them). Throw in someone who's less experienced with tattoos and maybe doesn't know what the going rates are in their area/doesn't know where to find that information, and here we are. It's a really cold, calculating pattern of behavior from the artist that's very disturbing, and I'm glad that more people are speaking up.

Granted, I'm not Canadian and I've never had a tattoo done over in that part of the world, but I just can't get over the price of that tattoo.. My two biggest tattoos combined are at least 5-6 times the size of her tattoo, took roughly 10 hours to complete and I didn't even pay half the price of what she paid for that. I don't even understand what that "artist" did for all those hours to drag it out for that long. I don't think I've ever met a tattoo artist who couldn't have finished that thing in one sitting. That woman really must have the gift of the gab because I truly don't know how she manages to keep ripping people off like that..

I took a 9yr break from getting tattoos bc my old artist had to close his shop due to his own health problems & it took me 9ys to find a new artist I liked. I finally found my new artist about 2.5ish yrs ago & since then I've gotten 16 tattoos by him. Bc im loyal customer (always on time & never cancels) he's chosen to give me certain perks like not charging me a deposit for appointments anymore & he's even offered me to come in to fill a cancelation spot in which I attempted to decline bc my bank had already closed for the day but he insisted I go ahead & come in anyways & pay him 2days later when I had time to get to the bank. Now that's trust. Of course he got his money + generous tip for trusting me.

The tattoo ended up coming out a little bigger and more complex than initially anticipated, but my artist *insisted on honouring the quoted price.* I ended up tipping her about £50 to ensure she was properly compensated for the extra work and time, along with tipping for her excellent work. Edit: forgot to clarify, my deposit was put towards the final total, it wasnt in addition to it.

But thats fine, they dont understand all that goes into original art and if they dont like it enough to pay that price, they don't have to. Also a lot of people going to art markets know its gonna be a lot more expensive than buying a mug at target. I guess if this person was quoted 3 grand for the tattoo in the first place, thats one thing.... maybe it seemed worth it to not spend the effort trying to find another artist with a style they like.... but then not doing what the client wanted and agreed to pay for, and then not completing the incorrect, simpler work for anywhere close to the estimate.... 🤯 THAT is a scam

I’m still really perturbed that I live so close to this artist, I literally used to work just down the street, definitely drives home that scammers are everywhere. Reading some comments I do want to say her practices and prices are not normal for our area at all but I think she takes advantage of the fact that tattoo prices and practices are still not totally transparent or easy to find for individual artists and by the time a new client feels there’s something up they’ve already been sucked into the sunken cost fallacy with her, she was not transparent at all with her pricing even once it was too late. I won’t call her a master manipulator but she’s definitely found a way to exploit people who often don’t have the experience to know any better or already felt like they’ve put too much money in to back out at that point. This channel probably draws a lot of people with an interest in tattoos and therefore knowledge but not everyone has the same exposure to “tattoo culture” and etiquette, nor is everyone totally google and social media savvy so you get a lot of generic answers or ranges of prices so people can only do so much on their end. Prior to tattoo gate she definitely was representing herself quite professionally with a bright and clean looking studio so I’m not shocked she drew some people in who might have felt uncomfortable in a more “traditional” feeling studio or who didn’t have the “tattoo literacy” people with a deeper interest in the art might have. Let’s remember who the scammer is and that clients are not omniscient and do not deserve to be scammed. It might have been big news to people interested in tattoo content but I recently had a convo with friends about it, one who lives in the same city as her studio, and none had heard of it. Scammy people are good at continuing to scam.

I am begging people to stand up for themselves and not keep going to artists who are giving them a bad experience! This is going on your body forever and costing an insane amount. Please educate yourselves before getting tattoos.

When I first saw her tattoo I was like.. it’s not bad, maybe this is what the artist told her she was going to do instead.. But then after the second session where she had clearly stated she was unhappy and wanted straight lines and she still went a different direction I was like ooohh. Also with the stencil she couldn’t have known what it would look like since the design was abstract watercolor. Also the price just is not.. ok. $200/hour is normal for decent artists. Even $600 for palm size, $1000 for full day (this is what my supernatural dream artists that is impossible to book with charges) is acceptable. But over 1000 for what 3-5 hours is crazy. The tattoo isn’t bad though.. Although I’m sure it’s sucks having something she didn’t agree to.

Also just wanted to add that doing straight lines around a body part apparently is a real pain in the ass. I’ve heard my artist talk about how it’s really hard to get right so they don’t like doing them. If that was the case she should have explained that she didn’t think she could make straight lines look good instead of just doing something else entirely.

I'm currently getting my backpiece done, so far it's been about six sessions and I don't live in the same city as my tattoo artist so that's been spread out for a few years. My tattoo artist is just as anxious as I am to get it done, as it's his work and he cares about it! He even tells me that I don't have to give him the same amount of money each time if I'm ever in a bind. He just wants to finish the work he started and be proud of it. I would assume all tattooists hold the same pride in their work but, alas, I guess not.

For me in my lil city of the uk, the money from the consultation fee has always gone into the final cost of the tattoo, an it was mainly because people were going in getting design ideas then never coming back.

The audacity!!!! I have a thigh piece quoted out that would cover a good portion of the front of my though - it’s quoted at $900CAD, and that’s with more detail and larger than that!
