The gardens are looking gorgeous, Matthew. The mulch on the front garden allows the plantings to shine against the dark mulch. So much progress in so little time. I’m in awe of the work you have done to get to this point. Be sure to give yourself some time to just sit back and enjoy it all.

I suspect your Pycnanthemum might be extra happy because it’s in that delightful rich, loose raised bed soil. I’ve had it in the ground for five years now in average soil and it has expanded a bit but only as far as I would have expected and it’s playing nicely with others. It’s a fabulous plant and definitely deserves a space in gardens, but a bit of tough love might do it good.

Hi Matthew! OMGolly, the front flower bed looks so pretty with the mulch. It made such a big difference. Loved the drone shot! I'm really loving the heuchera river alongside the boxwoods. The mulch really made them stand out more. Your limelight prime hedge is looking beautiful. I like the backdrop of the black fence. The 9' beds will be so nice for you to have the room to plant in front of them. Extending the pavers by the pool will make a big difference, and it will be nice to have the extra room for lounge chairs, etc. Your idea of a pergola will look nice there, too. I always look forward to seeing what you will be doing next. Thank you so much for sharing!

Hi Matthew, moles usually dine on insects and rarely eat plant roots. However they can certainly disrupt the roots when tunneling which can result in damage to the plant . I have gophers here in my northern Calif garden. They eat Dahlia tubers, eryngiums, any sort of Allium and even parsley-perhaps cleansing their palate after taking my onions down. I definitely prefer the moles-they can have as many grubs as they want !

Your garden is so gorgeous! I especially love the beautiful color of those roses going up your arched trellis! Wow! I have treated my lawn two times this year and two times last year for Japanese beetles. (Spring & early summer) It has REALLY helped my garden thrive w no bites on the leaves this year. They are gone for the season here🙌🏼.(They usually last about five weeks) This year I averaged picking off about 10 Japanese beetles a day!🙌🏼Lawn applications work!(Of course I had other bugs problems because of our mild winter here in SC.) like you said, do your research for your area… You still may be able to apply on your lawn. It’s probably good to possibly do it this year to get rid of some of them because they have probably reproduced a lot. I did research too and now I’m an expert!😂 The Japanese beetles know Entering my yard is a bad decision!🤣

Jenny of Creekside Nursery youtube channel just said that after July 4th, you should cut the leggy petunias back - give them a haircut, and you can even cut them in a circle. It will now (usually in 2 weeks) rebound with a more dense form, more branches. I did that last year and it really worked. It looked kind of naked, but for the rest of the season, it was well worth it. You may need to do this with the ones next to the sidewalk. And with all the others as well.

The garden looks beautiful with the mulch! You have accomplished a lot in a short period of time. I like the idea of extending the patio in the pool area. If I could make a few suggestions to think about. I think a curved edge would look wonderful, the mirror your black fence. Also, go BIG! I know you said a few feet but think about what you really want it to be for the future, as you plan your pergola and add additional seating. I do think it will be expensive, but worth the investment to get what you really want. Every project we do is more than what we've expected. Whatever you decide, Matthew, it will be great. You have a good eye for design!

I do not feel your hydrangea is an iron deficiency but lacking epsom salt. I live near you since we shop at the same nurseries and all. I have 13 of them and last week they were all lacking magnesium so I gave them 2 tablespoons around the base of each of them and watered them in........solved my issue. Been doing this process for years! I also use it on my rose bushes as well. They generally need it 2-3 times yearly. You'll know when the leaves turn yellow and drop. You can get it at Lowe's/Home Depot. My spireas love it too.
