Finally, I found a good source video to try some other things on my 1994 Suzuki Vitara 4x4. Am retired, living in the Philippines, where I bought this car, because we live in the mountain province, and I need a 4x4 to climb this steep hill to the house. Everyone around here rides scooters lol is NO cars very often. First time I experienced this was after my car sat for almost 2 weeks. Once I got it started and rolling, in gear, it broke free and my cable worked fine. Come rainy season in December '22 it sat parked for 2.5+ months. Rained all the time, and no need to get stuck, trying to drive down the slippery muddy hills here, to the road. I bought a new (correct type) cable and installed that. Have adjusted the cable both ways as well.....STILL, No fix, pulling my hair out trying to figure out what happened just sitting !! lol. Ordered socket set from Germany, hoping I won't have to pull the trans out. Don't have a cement pad to work on, or a floor jack etc. All my 45+ year collection of tools (lifetime mechanic, are in storage back home in California) I had tried the jerky actions, hard braking etc, as mentioned, to no luck. Maybe I will jack up the rear end, put it in 2x4 not 4x4 mode, and see if that helps break it free. I really, really don't wanna pull out or back the trans, unless I totally HAVE TO !! Thank for this video lesson/tips appreciate it !

@@daxpresuto3077 Well, because the front of the clutch is connected to the motor and the back to the drivetrain. So when the motor is running and you stop the drivetrain they separate, given that the clutch is depressed so it can separate. I am German ,I hope I made myself clear....

Outside my place, the neighbour has placed large rocks as ornaments on the Curb ,for looks and to stop people driving up onto the grass. I tried all the usual methods of freeing the clutch,so i drove the rangie up to one of these rocks, With the nose against the rock,I placed it 1st gear, put my foot on the clutch and started the engine. instead of freeing the clutch,it crawled up the rock...😂

Steve. I know I am late to this party and have heard and witnessed the other options being used and working, but another option I have heard from many mechanics in the past is, if you are not in a hurry, is to wedge the clutch pedal down while the vehicle is stored. Over a few days the clutch then frees itself, and I was told that this is often a far less destructive way. All the very best.

1:53 Actually you have one more option which works better on tractors due to larger wheels. Due to some play in the transmission, put the tractor in the lowest gear and then using the tire as leverage rocket the tractor back and forth by hand (on a smooth surface) while some way pushing the clutch. This way I could release some older type clutches quite easily. Old tractors have open space above the clutch pack and id you leave the tractor outside and it rains then you can have slight build up of rust which usually isn't anything major. The methods you suggested are better, but require some extra hand or tools :)

If none of those suggestions work, lift the car and check if there's a bung in the bottom of the bell housing. If there is, pop it out and, with an assistant pressing the clutch pedal, insert a screwdriver to free the friction plate. If there isn't a hole, make one with a 10mm drill!

This is an actual problem with a vehicle that is stored for a long time. My comment is how could an owner with a vehicle in storage do something to possibly prevent this corrosion seizure? My suggestion but I must admit I have never had this problem would be if at all possible maybe every 6-12 months or so raise a drive wheel. Get a helper to push the clutch pedal down holding the clutch released, trans in gear, ENGINE OFF, and the helper rotates the raised drive wheel for several rotations. Then still released and rotating the tire slowly engage the clutch and you should hear a slight buffing sound as the facings make slight contact with the FW and pressure plate surface. What this might do is break up the start of the bond of rust periodically and prevent total seizure of facings to cast iron. If you can turn a wheel, trans in gear, clutch released (pedal on floor) then the clutch is successfully released. The other corrosion issue with stored (especially if outside) is corrosion on the splines of the disc and input shaft. That corrosion can also cause poor release due to dragging and not sliding freely on the input shaft. Not sure what the car is but I saw enough to identify disc as a B&B AP made for Ford. Retired from the aftermarket clutch industry, 39 yrs. Gary

I think you may have forgotten to show the pilot bearing, if you're not going to replace it (recommended ;) atleast put a dab of grease on it. My ol' Ram clutch is still stuck, I bought a new Hydraulic Clutch System., I bought the complete system that is full of fluid and supposedly pre bled, so it should have been a complete working system. installed it with the help of my brother and the clutch still won't disengage, I was hoping it would fix it but no luck. I started it down a hill while it was in 1st gear it continues to pull even with the clutch pedal pushed to the floor. I plan on removing the slave cylinder and push the rod in with the master cylinder lid off and hope it removes any air bubbles left in the lines. The slave cylinder doesn't have a bleeder valve on it so that is the only way I can think of to remove the trapped air in the system. If that don't work I'll take it back to Oreilly auto parts and exchange it for another and hope🙏 it works next time. Or it maybe time for a new/used vehicle that works.

I have never done it but often thought of removing the starter and filling the clutch housing full of a diesel and oil mix then leaving it too soak. Then if it worked you could wash it out with brake cleaner and compressed air but it probably wouldn't be very good for the clutch material plus you need to be lucky and have a good sealing clutch housing.

A short video is better provided you give good information, there are many videos that are two or three times as long as this one with no more information. I sometimes stop watching them because they take too long to get to the point.

I stopped at a gas station and when I tried to leave my car would not go into gear with the engine running. The clutch pedal felt normal, everything was hooked up and moving, but it wasn't disengaging. I managed to get the car home, then let it sit for months. I started it today and it went into gear, drove it around, and it's working completely normal. Are there Gremlins that repair cars as well as break them? LOL Since I drove the car all the time and I believe everything to be in good mechanical condition the only thing I can think of is that some crud came loose and was jamming the friction plate between the flywheel and pressure plate. I also realized that if I'd just pushed the clutch in and tried to accelerate it would have probably ground the crud out of there and fixed the problem or torn the clutch friction plate up. Anybody had a similar experience or have any opinion about this crud theory ?

@@D3Sshooter I've been driving the car with no problems but I did feel the clutch stick a little when I started it in gear with the clutch pushed in the other day. I had a small oil leak I think may have contaminated the friction plate and that might be causing it to stick.
