i actually ate here and its known best for its Tofu banquet in winter. A 7 course meal all with tofu as the main ingredient. Just saying, i've never liked tofu before but just sitting next to the river, watching the snow fall was absolutely breathtaking - made the tofu taste even more divine

I feel like the point of view of the food blogger is completely irrelevant to this story. You could erase her from the piece and the video would still be about Japan and the culture. Presenting the blogger as the center piece in the beginning takes away from the actual subject

nothing maybe they figured "no one will watch a video in ALL subtitles with the only woman being old." Shows what they know.

I've visited this place and I will say, it truly feels like a whole different world. Just walking to this restaurant and the whole experience makes you feel like you've time traveled into the past. The scenery is beautiful and peaceful, the food is exquisite, and the entertainment is one of a kind. I recommend everyone to visit this place. I had a talk with Kobayashi-San while I visited and learning about her story was really nice as well.

l think i am going to to put this place on my bucket list. The video itself made me feel so calming.

I agree such a feeling of calm and peacefulness is so foreign to me that I haven't felt like this since the day I had my first companion by my side until he past away Friends to the end I would always say I still remember her smile till this day

I'd love to go there someday. the hike looks lovely

I honestly think the perspective from the vlogger's point of view, the short film style shooting and cartooning takes a lot away from this place. The food and the environment speak for themselves. Instead of the quality ingredients letting their flavours shine, they've been doused in too many sauces and dressings. Imagine this same video without the cartoons and narration.

I agree, they do so well with the way they make their other videos, this definitely takes away from it, it was distracting, they should show the place for what it is, and then we can go there, and have our own kind of experience

I think they definitely should lose the cartoons. The narration doesn't bother me as much, but it could be sparser. Longer intervals with soft music only would enhance the images and even what little narration remained.

I disagree. I think the fvlogger and the animation was great and added a whimsical touch accenting the owner's hobby of calligraphy. It made me want to go there when I go to Japan in the future.

There's many Japanese that would take offense to your comments. So next time be a bit more respectful of those who have a different approach, just saying. :/

Visited this restaurant a few months ago. I'd been to Arashiyama before, and it truly is a peaceful place, with the river and mountains there that somehow make you feel calm. The food was great, and not expensive at all. Only double digits for the full course we chose. Very recommended! They were the nicest women there as well.

I've been watching this channel everyday for a week now. the quality is absolutely incredible!

We went there today at about 6:30 and we only saw about 50 other people on the entire trek and plenty of photo/video opportunities with noone in them...

We've just started doing mainly UK natural sound and sight video walks and it's lovely to find someone doing a similar thing in parts of the world we may never get to visit. I've subscribed and very much look forward to seeing more.

My neighbor lives in Japan- he goes there once a year for 3 months straight for summer break, he sends me pictures of the sun set and of the cultures....it's amazing!

Could have done without the animations. Not everything Japanese is a Miyazaki film. Imagine if everything American were labeled with Teen Titans Go or Rick and Morty or Mickey Mouse. By making this have just one interpretation they have diminished traditional Japanese culture to one person's artistic contribution. The animations detracted from the natural beauty of the place and made the video less traditionally Japanese. I agree with other commentators and felt the narration was intrusive as well. The style of this channel is traditionally to not show the narrators in the videos and to have them interact with the subjects of their videos to get them to speak about length about their special attributes.

Food looks amazing and all, but all the mumbo-jumbo about "divine spirits and ions" is simply modern day snake oil. It is clear this woman (or whoever did the English translation) doesn't have the slightest idea of what an ion is, and is using it as vague buzzword to insert creationism mythology to describe what can easily be explained as serenity and tranquility. I love hiking and Japanese food but I might have to pass on this restaurant if I have to dine with a bunch of obnoxious Karens as they compare stinky essential oils.

been here because of this video, very very very much worth it. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

I find the spirited world dancing etc a bit disturbing. While I love the japanese culture and some of the food and artistry, the spirited themes are very unsettling and dark. A nice restaurant but what was on the menu? Also if this place is so isolated, how do people find it? A bit strange. Some travelers may be too old to walk a distance to eat and watch the elderly dance and chant.

The whole reason for the location is the spirit aspect. Shinto beliefs focus on how there is a spirit within everything, within nature, etc. That's why there were the animations that there were. You could perhaps appreciate it more if you did some reading on Shinto beliefs. I certainly enjoyed the video knowing the belief system behind the representations and the reason the location of the restaurant is so special.
