A SLOB Breakdown of Josh Giddey

Спорт

Since day one, Josh Giddey has continuously demonstrated his elite level of passing in the NBA. As he develops alongside the promising Oklahoma City Thunder, Giddey consistently proves that when the basketball is in his hands, beautiful things happen.
As a playmaker and initiator, Josh Giddey is exceptional. His ability to create points out of nothing, especially with his knack for reading a defense in sideline and baseline out-of-bounds settings, is even more remarkable.
In this video essay, we break down how Josh Giddey of the Oklahoma City Thunder has become the best inbounder in the NBA, and arguably one of the best in the history of basketball.

Bit of a stretch calling his dad "Warrick Giddey" an Australian Basketball legend, he played a lot of games in the NBL but averaged 3.3 points per game and 2.7 assists per game on a team with some true Australian Basketball legends (Gaze, Bradtke, Copeland). Lot of players in the early years of the NBL "played a lot of games" But yeah, Josh is pretty legit!

I can’t believe the disrespect that so many show to Josh. This analysis is spot on. Josh may not ever be the ‘best’ player on the team, but you can make a case that he might end up being the most ‘important’ to winning some important games over the next few years. The crap he’s had to deal with, both in relation to a personal error (the like of which gets made from time to time), and the endless ‘trade him’ whining … says more about the people participating in it that it does about Giddey. The ‘booers’ are judgmental assholes - and the ‘traders’ are just plain clueless.

It annoys me too, but I'd rather he stick with OKC. They're a team on the move and he's s huge part of the rebuild. He'll start clickin' again. Just gotta work on some aspects of his game more, like 3s and defence and his drives could be more polished. He also just needs to be more aggressive. Dude is 6 ft 9 now, he should just be dunking more TBH, I know he can. A great player will always be improving their game, and Giddey can do that.

I'd like to see SGA off ball more early in the clock and using the cut over the slash. His slithery style would still have gravity and Giddey can hit him to advantage. But Giddey needs to develop a scoring game to justify opponents not sagging off a ball handler, otherwise he risks being a guy who will need to be a great defender to fit a Draymondesque role. I like his floater game, but he needs a midrange at a minimum to make him a threat to score and not require him to have the ball to be effective (on a team with an MVP level on ball scorer.)

I think the main issue is fitting into his smaller role. I think the main issue is that now that the Thunder are in more of a playoff phase, they don't have the time to utilize as many of the "developmental minutes" as they were once able too. With that said he's still a phenomenal playmaker.

  • @agwager

There's no doubt the underage stuff has seriously affected his gameplay this season. The booing from opposition fans has made Josh pass the ball early in set pieces and he hasn't been as dynamic. He certainly wasn’t taking as many risks with his passes. However as the season has progressed he has started to feel more comfortable in his skin and has started to play his best basketball. In his most recent games he has started to do his flashy wizard like passes. The police are no longer investigating the case and although the NBA are now looking into it, the threat of jail time is no longer going to be the case. I suspect the NBA may give him a fine for bringing the league into disrepute and possibly a 1-5 game suspension (at worst) but realistically he will get a suspended sentence and will just have to deal with the continued boos from opposition fans. Great video and channel btw. I’ve subscribed! Thunder Up

Fuck that, if he did anything wrong the cops would be on his ass. Charges dropped for lack of any kind of evidence of wrongdoing, he was falsely accused of some bad shit and his reputation is toast forever for that nonsense. Chet is already talented, but if you have solid passers around you everything gonna be waaaay easier, cause you don't have to do extraterrestrial things regularly, just follow what the others are telling you. Giddey is getting 6 less minutes per game this season for some reason so his stats are a bit down but he's improved his 3 point shooting all the way up to 34.5% from 32% and his free throws also up to 82% from 73%. I also think his game suffered on the road from constantly being booed every time he touches the ball from the now defunct allegations against him so that should no longer be an issue since that situation is over. He's a big part of their success so they should get him more minutes and they'd better not trade him.
