It just doesn't seem normal for Bessy to be tied down like that all of the time by her mother. I hope Bossy starts allowing Bessy more freedom... soon if not sooner!

Wow Spunky took that well. What a tough girl. Dopey screamed bloody murder when he was playing with a big males ball sac and the male turned around and swatted him....lmao, Dopeys face was sheer terror poor guy and then Reddy came to his rescue of course. Little Spunky here barley let out a screech....lol too funny. Great videos as always Arroz💯🌟💖

Deedee Piller, yes it was Spunky. Bossy had not liked her around Bessy the entire episode....well once she and Bessy arrived....but as Arroz had said maybe Bossy saw her as a bad influence on Bessy since she gets to roam free and play to an extent.

WOW 3 brilliant videos showing a lot of interesting Macaque actions and reactions. Favorite bit ? the walking lessons that ended up in the ditch. Unfortunately Spunky has got a lot to learn about Macaque etiquette, if Bossy says no go away then you go away or get thrown away. Thanks Arroz

ian540 I'm hanging in there thank you. Loving Indian Summer we've suddenly got here! Had a long spate of rain. I'm chuckling at the Judo Karate reference. It looks so similar! I spent many years watching tournaments on those hard bleachers in the venues. When our club held it's Annual Tournament, the parents helped in all areas. Hubby & I usually were assigned to the scoring board & often had to wait until the ref made the call as you couldn't tell which one scored the point! One would execute a throw, & sometimes the opponent would counter. There were arms & legs in the air, a thud as they hit the mat. Whoever hit 1st, lost. The ground work was easier... choke out, arm bar, tap out & done! Or they were held down fir the required time. The throws were spectacular to watch but very hard to score! LOL Sorry, I got very nostalgic & had to edit a few times. Sorry for the length. I ❤️ Judo 😁

Arroz: I really have to take my hat off to you. You make some really lovely videos of these macaques in the wild. Correct me if I'm wrong, the diet of these animals is supplemented by humans passing out small amounts to them. I see nothing wrong with that, as long as it doesn't go so far as the group that I've see in the videos from Cambodia. This group still retains much of their wild nature and habits. The group in Cambodia, seem to have had their more wild habits altered by the continued and rather frequent feeding by the humans in that area. It appears to me that even their breeding/mating cycle has been thrown off. It seems quite sad, the more I watch them, but it is a good group for studying the human influences on them. You seem to have a genuine affection for these macaques and it shows in your videos. I can actually see these videos being used as educational tools for people just learning about some of the behavior of wild Rhesus macaques, within a group. They're very well done and I thank you for posting them.

Good post. Just my $0.02 based on what I've seen: Arroz tends to hand out food during very lean times, such as the dead of winter, and/or to clearly starving monkeys like the poor monkey in "The Old and Neglected" video, as well as maimed monkeys like Stumpy and Mr. Rock, RIP. If he brings food for Bossy's troop, he takes them well off the road into a secluded area because he's conscious of the fact that hand-outs could cause fights and injuries between troops. But I have also seen him decline to give food out if the monkeys have been recently fed, whether by the official feeders or random passersby. One thing I know for sure is that Bossy's troop only lost one baby in 2016, and that's due to the excellent mothers in the troop, and also Arroz visiting them more often during the winter when there's virtually nothing to forage. Normally the mortality rate is 1/3 in the first year, so to see such a large group of babies celebrate their first birthdays is special.

Arroz you've done good just by helping to expose the horrific abuse that was happening to the monkeys. Plus you know as well as anyone the goal of the OPCFHK is 80% sterilization of female monkeys. By discriminately feeding Bossy's troop and Stumpy you've kept them from getting spayed/neutered in greater numbers than they are now, for they'd certainly be going for the food in those traps more often otherwise. Also I love how you use words like "exsanguination" and say, "I'm not a doctor!" :) "Move along, nothing to see here, we're just using medical jargon no lay person would ever know..." Haha. I think I have mentioned this to you before, but the British novelist David Mitchell has an entire section about a British expat living in Hong Kong in his first book, "Ghostwritten." In the book he mentions many of the locales you've shown us. I have had the privilege of meeting Mr. Mitchell and speaking with him a few times, and he's an extraordinary person as well as a remarkably gifted novelist. Anyway, I mention it in case anyone is interested, plus the book is fantastic. Mitchell is also the author of "Cloud Atlas," his most famous book, which was adapted as a movie by Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and the Wachowskis a few years ago. (Although the book is much, much better than the movie is.) Cheers dude!

Doctor Pearl - I can't say enough good things about David Mitchell. He is the nicest, most humble, most self-deprecating guy, especially for someone who is regularly hailed as a genius. (And I consider him a genius as well. I don't know of any living novelist with his talent.) But yeah, the first time I met him was in 2010 during his American book tour for "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet" when he came to Greenlight Books in Brooklyn, NY. It's a really big, open bookstore, and it was completely packed -- and when he walked in the audience gave him a rock star's welcome. I spoke to him for a good 20 minutes that night, and he told me about the novel he was working on, which became "The Bone Clocks." Since then I've talked to him a handful of times over the years. Have you read Slade House? It's his newest and shortest novel, came out in October 2015 IIRC, and it's awesome. I can't wait for his next book!

I think so too, Annie. My completely uneducated guess, just from watching Bossy hold her baby so tightly, is that maybe Bossy Jr. fell from a tree or was hit by a car, something really traumatic like that. That would explain Bossy's behavior.

Peanut Annie 😥 The major causes of infant mortality are falls & I think in Bossy Jr's case, it could have also been a car accident. Whatever transpired, it DID effect Bossy. You can see how she mourned the loss & she's acting more like Reddy did with Dopey. And Lancy is acting the same way with Larry. They're good Mums.

Spunky is hilarious! Boing Boing Boing. Making contact with everyone she passes. No shortage of self esteem there. :) Poor Mickey...breaks my heart how sad he cries. He's all wilted like warm lettuce. Bossy may be overprotective of sweet Bessie, but inside my heart, I understand and don't blame her. She'll get there with Bessie, she'll let her have more freedom eventually. Then watch out! Bessie is going to rule the roost! I've known people like that. I hope so. If she's going to lead the troop one day, she'll need to brush up on her skills. Bossy may not be over with grieving for Bossy....none of us are. But, Bossy was given a special gift when she had Bessie. Nature smiled on her...the lady who couldn't have babies proved them wrong....twice. I love you Bossy. I hope you feel loved in your own way. However! I really don't like when you are mean to Spunky and throw her. Not nice! Awesome series Arroz, thank you!

I enjoy seeing Taggy, I've developed an attachment to him of sorts. I guess I just feel sorry for him having to lug that collar around all the time ....lol I hope Bossy gets more comfortable and gives Bessy a little slack so she can mingle and play! We've got do many new mother's and babies its hard to keep up with them all now! LOL In the very beginning of the first episode today Stacy and Spotty were sitting on the fence with another female. JamesMDavis1 I've seen that in quite a few different videos. The Alpha female's baby is usually "off limits" to other babies when they are at this young age. I remember reading that it tends to be hierarchy related & worse if the baby is female as the youngest female offspring of the Alpha Mom is the next in line to take on the role. :)

I'm really curious how Bossy factored in with Bossy Jr's disappearance. Maybe she saw her baby killed, or taken. She's overprotective to the point of not even wanting the other babies around Bessy. Being the troop leader might contribute to her paranoia, she not only lost a troop member, but her own offspring as well. Double whammy. What's with that spooky Dy? She makes them all nervous. Clearly she's big enough to kick their asses and swipe their babies.

Suzanne Rose LOL That's spot on! It's a different era & a lot of women use this time wisely & return to the workforce, travel, take classes at University, etc. Heck, some women go back to school full time & get a degree or finish a degree that may have been on pause while raising children. A mother never stops being a mother and while the kids are gone, the nest may still have a hubby in it or filled frequently with friends so it's not *empty*. I celebrated my children moving on & becoming productive & successful members of society which is the goal from their 1st cry when they enter the world. It begins with giving them lots of love (which encompasses many things from Hugs & kisses to discipline) and they become secure & confident to leave "the nest" & venture out into the real world, unafraid & ready to take on new roles & relationships. If done properly, they never abandon the nest though & come back from time to time to visit with Mum & Dad. (I am referring to humans here obviously. LOL) take Care Suzanne. :)

So the term itself is not bad, but a "certain person or persons" (not Arroz) have given it a negative meaning. The thing is: I have time now to do my nails, read a book, craft, watch videos or TV or canoodle! 😁💃🏻

Mickey needs to grow up and stop that nursing.. I know he's the youngest one out of the bigger babies and yes they supposedly nurse up until two years of age Arroz has mentioned.. I really think Dopey still nurses at night though at the very least, you see Reddys nipple? It's still freshly stretched, pink, swollen, and not drying up with milk at times appearing to been dripping out. If she weaned completely for some time now then her nipple still would be stretched yes but def not freshly stretched, swollen/puffy, and definitely all milk would be dried up by now. In all seriousness, if Mickey is still crying and begging to nurse (if all the others are completely weaned) then he needs to stop the begging to nurse IMO.. That's just my opinion... Wow, never seen Mickey cry like this to nurse but then again his mum always gives him what he wants and never had any prob with him ever.. I couldn't believe she actually carried him and gave in like that.. He's too big IMO to be carried and nursed.. Something told me that she stayed in the back away from everyone when she carried him back there because she was possibly hiding nursing him. I'm prob wrong about that but I got that impression for some odd reason like she didn't want to be seen nursing.. Anyway, Mickey time to grow up bud..

I get what you're saying, but animals don't have a sense of embarrassment like we do, so she wasn't trying to hide for that reason. There's probably another reason that's inscrutable to us humans. I think these things have a way of sorting themselves out. Mickey's mom looks pregnant, and usually when a younger sibling is born, it triggers an instinct in the older baby to move on from babyhood. Baty's a great example, as he's become a good little babysitter.

The more I see of Bossy's extreme cautiousness with Bessie, the more I think Bossy Jr. must have fallen from a tree or been hit by a car, something especially traumatic along those lines. Her behavior has changed drastically, especially for an experienced mom who's had many kids.

I have to admit like I mentioned I like Bossy but boy she really can't be a double standard at times.. You know damn well if any other mother or monkey for that matter grabbed Bessy to even hold or love on her even if Bessy casually walked over like Spunky did, Bossy would attack that monkey!Bossy grabbed and held Spunky when he casually walked over there which is a complete double standard on her part but what am I saying..lol she's a monkey.. They don't know what a double standard is/means and even if they did they could careless..;( Anyway, Another double standard or better yet when Bessy was trying to play with Spunky and leaning on him etc.. Same thing, Bossy would have hit another baby if they leant or or played with Bessy.. (Bossy did that a few videos ago where a baby walked over trying to play with Bessy and she grabbed the baby and tossed he or she, rem that???) I was watching Bossys reaction as Bessy was doing that to Spunky and she was waiting for Sounky to reply with Bessy and I saw it coming but fortunately Spunky walked away. As Spunky walked back over, Bossy was a complete bitch towards him! As much as I like her, she is one quite nasty monkey and she has to have it her way or no way.. I believe she knows her power over the troop and she knows that nobody will will respond or defend themselves letting Bossy get away with everything and anything.. I'm so shocked Bossy other kids are absolute sweethearts actually. They don't seem to "know that their mum is higher ranked (which makes them higher ranked also) and treat all the others any different.. Really quite shocking.. Over in Cambodia, those monkeys are completely different whenever it comes to the juveniles/kids with higher ranked mothers.. They bully and kidnap other grown adult mothers and their babies.. I couldn't never imagine having some kid try to bully me because they feel they are "of an higher authority " than I am.. Monkey society is so different than us humans in they way their thinking gos..

Spunky was the baby monkey that Bossy threw in the air. And Spunky is a girl. Yes she can be kind of nasty but she's the alpha. And sure seems extra protective of Bessy.

Bossy can be a bit of a meanie. This is the second time we have seen her abusing Spunky. It brings back memories of her being mean to Dopey when he was little. I know she is the Alpha female, but she needs to chill when dealing with the little ones.

Myrna Robinson You're right! She was mean to Dopey and I had forgotten all about it. It seems she has certain babies that rub her the wrong way. She seems much more cross than she was before, I think. I hope she will lighten up as time passes.

Benjamin Mills Arroz won`t mind if I answer this. Baby wanted to play a move away from mum, mum warned "Don`t pull away from me" baby showed her frustration and a bit of anger at not being allowed to move away. Some times called a mac-attack but this was a very minor one. Hope that helps.

Benjamin Mills .....hello Benjamin. I have to disagree with your opinion. It looked to me that Bossy was trying to stop little Bessy from nursing for a little time. And since that's all she can do, being held, she threw a little Mac attack. I could be wrong. At least we can give the question a couple opinions. Have a good day.

Well we can see Bossy react to something, but it's not clear exactly what she's reacting to. Maybe Bessie tried to break free, maybe she tried to nurse when Bossy wasn't willing. That triggered the response from Bessie. It's not always clear why a baby macaque has a geckering fit.

GozerTheGozerian .....Thank you so much for you information on "Mac attack", this is the term that has been used on this host of videos. It's good to learn the correct terminology. But for now I will continue using this term, But I will keep in my list. Thank you again.

Taggy. He ranks below the triumvirate of high-ranking males, and Arroz speculates on his website that he's been hampered by that radio tag, so he's probably not as effective of a fighter. Here's what Arroz wrote on his website: "...he’s the one with the radio collar, poorly fitted on his neck and he always looks uncomfortable with it. He’s very gentle and never bothers any babies. He always tags along with a younger petite female and they are probably lovers."

You're welcome :) BTW if you haven't been there yet, Arroz's site is am360view dot com and if you scroll down there's a post called "Bossy's Troop" that has profiles of the troop members with photos, names and short bios. He also has a second section for the babies of Bossy's troop (2016), which is the group that includes Dopey, Knotty, etc.

I think you're talking about Arroz's post, "Don't feed the baby monkey pet trade." Yeah, it's upsetting. I'm glad Arroz called attention to the problem, and I'm also glad his channel celebrates monkeys living natural lives with their families and their troops. Monkeys belong in the wild.

@ 1:10 its looks like Bossy does not want Bessy to nurse right now, but what else is she suppose to do when Bossy wont let her go explore and play?!!! Its like Bossy just wants her to sit there and not do anything. Poor little Bessy!! If it hadnt been for Bossy Jr disappearing, Bessy would be free running around right now. Mommy means well Bessy!!!

No Arroz!!! Please!!! Gypsy cant be pregnant again!! Ugh, my heart is just going to break all over again!!! The only good thing if she is pregnant is that i think Knotty would be a great big brother just like Batty is!!! But what if Gypsy is different with the new baby if she is pregnant? What if its a girl(cause i think that is why she didnt really show that much love towards Knotty cause he is a boy) but what if she wont let Knotty play with the baby? I just hope that Gypsy never gets pregnant again. Im sorry if this has offended anyone.
