The way I see story is that it is a metaphor for a loved one with a incurable disease like leukemia. We all believe (or want to) that they will be the exception and survive, but fate is not always so merciful. That and as much it broke my heart, Hugo was always doomed even things played out differently.

I genuinely don't understand how you don't have millions of views. Please don't ever stop posting, I _promise_ you're going to make it. Video essays (like you're making) and so popular & desperately needed. If you ever feel like making some on - Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Pokemon, elder scrolls, adventure time - I won't complain 😅

@@PeachShortcake_ views Not followers Edit: I was talking about the sub/follower count for content creators who make video essays with some form of meaning, and not those that are seen as nothing more other than overly-elaborate shit posts or satirical ones going over a meme made into a theory for a story meant to justify rooting for a villain, a hero being a bad guy, or some other kind of “going against the flow” kind of theory don’t get me wrong, these guys can get up there in the sub count, and I hope this guy makes it in the end. @@Irn_Knih also - I have a few public playlists on my profile with almost 5k videos (video essays) from thousands of different creators. Plenty of them on there have 500k-1mil followers. Even the ones that don't have many followers, they ( _usually_ ) get hundreds of thousands - millions of views. It's a lot of videos to go thru (I'm constantly updating it & I'll make a *third* public playlist) but there are countless creators you can find on there 🥰✨ *Edit* I'm not affiliated or paid or sponsored btw lol. I have a hyper fixation on video essays/long form content, so I spend a fair amount of time finding new videos to add to my playlists.

17:32 I don't think you knew, but there is a book released last year (only available in french), a plague tale tenebris, set between innocence and requiem in which Hugo passes through the second threshold. 48:00 It's not an unknown reason. Lucas was never on the boat, when Amicia broke the chain and simultaneously destroyed the dock, Lucas got stuck on the other side of the river and had to find a way to get past the rats on that side to get to the lockgates. 02:11:25 If I can speculate, Beatrice and Lucas followed the tracks of Amicia and Hugo and found the pilgrims who had the map that would possibly show where la cuna is. From there it would be easy to find a boat to the island, as the player learns early on that traders from the mainland go there during bright days to do business. If you're interested, one of the devs, Olivier Deriviere, did a playthrough of the game with many insights of the story.

just finished the game, what an emotional roller coaster. my understanding of the origin of the Macula: - in ancient times, there was a plague/disease that killed many. a divine power manifested itself in the presence of a Phoenix, with the Phoenix's healing power and reincarnation, it helped the world and its people. but some religious heretics formed a cult - The Order and they wanted to control the Phoenix, in a horrible turn of event, the Phoenix was murdered - the rage and hatred towards humanity turned the Phoenix into a malignant being, hence the Macula was born. and it's healing power became a power of correption, it's reincarnation remained and it passed on from one carrier to another. the dream the Macula showed to Hugo, i believe it was where the Phoenix once resided and worshiped before its murder. and this is my only explanation for why the Phoenix symbol appears on everything that's connected to The Order.

Beat this game in 24 hours of starting it, I knew it was gonna be heavy but when I finished. I didn't even have words to describe it, it hurt so badly. Just sat at my desk in the dark stareing at the screen for like 5 minutes trying to just understand everything. I knew it was coming, just not this way Once we saw what happened to the old carrier, I knew it was too late to save him. No game before has impacts me this way, not even any movie or book

2:47:49 Saying as a Hindu who studied Sanskrit and speaks Hindi, Oppenheimer was wrong in his translation of Shrimad Bhagvad Gita here. The word काल that he thinks means death is also the word used for time, because time is death. Death doesn't destroy worlds, but time does. Therefore, the more acceptable translation of the quote is "Now I've become time, the destroyer of worlds". Because even non-living entities aren't capable of surviving time.

I just finished this amazing game and I loved Hugo so much. He was a sweetheart and innocent being. He didn't deserve all suffering he had in his short life. This kid had more suffering than happiness. I wondered if anyone could really endure such suffering. The game isn't perfect, as none are, but the story is incredible, as sad as it is.

9:20 The scene of Amicia being choked to death continues off camera BTW, while the camera zooms on Hugo's face. Robyn Wolf, the actress for Amicia, portrayed Amicia struggle for her life very realistic, and when you go into photo mode during the zoom, and turn the camera around, you see the fear, panic, despair and rage in Amicia's face (the CGI model projects it in every detail, even up to Amicia's tongue sticking out) - which Hugo is directly looking at. You can see photos of it on the IMDB page of the game. I suspect it became a "deleted scene", because it was too intense that early in the game and they feared some might be put off seeing a teenager almost being killed by choking from two large men after 15 minutes.

Great video, much enjoyed listening to it after finishing both games. One picky remark is about the title of Chapter V, "Hath" is the old form of "Has" for the third person singular, thus wasn't/cannot be used for the "They" pronoun. Great work in any case, would love to see/hear more from your channel!

broo you didn't mention the scene at the very end where they tease a new carrier. An infant hooked up to a machine. You hear someone walking in heels. Most likely set another few hundred years in the future. 1900s is my guess. I was looking forward hearing your thoughts on that one after watching the two plaguetale vids. I really hope we get a cool answer to the very origins of the macula next game. Kind of hard to guess how thats gonna happen considering its further ahead in time.. unless it is not.. but a long long time ago.

The thing for me is that if someone was blind and they heard you playing the 2 games they would assume you were playing 2 games with different characters. The irony is that Plague Tale Requiem has the same voice actors as its predecessor 🤷 The decision to change the characters accents was a big L in my opinion. How you speak is a big part of your identity from style, speech patterns to accent. The deuteragonists seem like different people. It’s like watching a movie when the main characters are recast for the sequel. The only way I could have got on board is if it was 10 years later, the main characters were living in England and they developed English accents to hide from those pursuing them. Given that the sequel is only like 6 months or so later, it was a bit jarring for me. I wasn’t able to invest in the sequel. Many seem fine with it but could you imagine if In Ghost of Tsushima 2 Jin Sakai spoke with a British cockney accent or a generic American accent even though it was the same voice actor and the game was still set in Japan. Would be asinine wouldn’t it? So why does Plague Tale Requiem get a pass? Because the graphics are good? People obviously loved the first game and the characters, why change something that people already loved and were invested in. At least with Spider-Man they had the excuse of wanting a different face model to emote better for Mo cap, but in this case it’s the same actors. I would of had less problem with the characters looking more like the actors playing them to improve lip sync and mocap with them still sounding the same, than for them to look the same and sound and behave significantly different. They could just as well of had the sequel cover a new story with different characters set in England, set in the same game universe and the game would have played out pretty much the same. Even when Clementine aged up over the walking dead telltale series the actress maintained the character’s identity. She sounded like she was voiced by the same actress and the character felt the same just older. Thats how you do a sequel.

I chalked it up to England, France, and Britain having this sort of round table rivalry thing happening. Throughout history they have influenced each other in fashion, diction, and food among other things. I haven't read Tenebris since it's in French, but I just assumed the English accent has somehow become popular in their region of France during this interlude and that's why they're using it. Or if you prefer it, you can consider it more of a "translation error." Of course, since the characters are in France, they would still be speaking French in-world; to us, the audience, this has been translated into a language we can understand. The accent switch is kinda like how Irish and Scottish can get mixed up, or Australian and New Zealand's accents get mixed around by actors (usually in older stuff). Or you can take it as it is; the voice actors are just more comfortable using their own voices, and the acting direction was lax. You could always play it in French!
