hey man. I lost my sister a few days before Christmas 2014 in a traffic accident. She was 22 and I was 17 at the time. I didn't know how to cope. I asked my aunt for advice (she had also lost her brother, also a car accident, sometime in 2006) and what she told me stuck with me: "You never forget. Wounds never heal. With time, you just learn to tolerate the pain." And now, 9 years later, I see how true her words were. I try to live every waking moment as if my sister can see through my eyes, to give her a life she never got to experience. I hope - no, I'm sure - she's proud of me, and that's what keeps me going. And I'm sure your sister is proud of you, too. Stay strong.

“You never get over it, you learn to deal with it” that’s how It was told to me. I’ve been fortunate to not have any losses in my immediate family(knock on wood). I don’t ever want to know what’s that’s like.

Sorry for your loss man, I don't want to be counterintuitive, but Hugo's death or change was completely avoidable. I guess they really want the terminal illness metaphor to relate to the players. I doubt that though.

The one line that broke me in the end was Hugo saying "I've been happy with you" he did not care that he was going to die instead Hugo just accepted it and the only thing he really cared about was every moment that he got to spend with his sister. Man this game just messes with your head.

@@adk7165 The first was Horizon Zero Dawn. Though it was 6 years ago, I wasn't quite experienced with games, and also was sort of predisposed to sadness at that time, so I'm not sure if the game was truly that good or not. But Plague Tale's drama is certainly masterfully done. I've just started playing TLoU 1 by the way. Curious to see if it's truly as good as the reviews say

I’m so glad you talked about the idea that Hugo could be fine if they found a safe place. I never saw anyone talking about that possibility - instead assuming that he would always succumb. Your explanation cleared up the lingering questions I had there, so thank you!

I had understood the circumstances of your sister before, and as an older brother it just breaks my heart. I have a lot of respect that you shared so much about it and wish you all the best. As for the game, I didn't enjoy the story except for a few small moments between Amicia and Hugo, but I have a lot of appreciation for the studio and a TON of respect for your experience with it.

"Requiem" is not only a story well told, it is a story that needed to be told. Because in the end it talks about hard truths, and following Amicia through this story and reflecting about her path enables you to discover these truths - about yourself or about others. It documents the power of allegorical story telling, its way of using metaphors as a lens to provide a new perspective. In that it becomes not only entertaining but also enlightening, as it does not distract you from yourself and make your forget, but actually makes you reflect and learn. "Requiem" is one of the finest examples in pop culture. Another examples are Grimm's Fairy Tales or "Star Trek" (the classic one, until 2005). To me at its core APT is about not losing your humanity, your ability to have empathy and compassion in a world full of hate and violence, and Amicia's and Hugo's struggle within themselves. And both come out of this struggle differently, as both are different characters with different prepositions and at a different state of maturity. Amicia is a remarkable character, that stays with you after you followed her story. Because you feel that you can learn from her. And she suffered for you to be able to. You cannot give enough credit for her creators, like writer Sébastien Renard, motion capture actress Robyn Wolf, voice actress Charlotte McBurney, character designer and CGI model creator Olivier Ponsonnet, and the animators who provided additional in-game performances (like Lise Sourlier who played Amicia hugging Hugo one last time or worked on Amicia's animation breaking down in the hidden room). Through their talent and love for story telling Amicia came to life and they created a character that truly is so much more than just the sum of her parts. I started playing "Innocence", because I saw by accident a playthrough on YT and thought, it looked nice and enabled me to explore 14th century medieval France a little. The epic journey I would embark and how deeply touched I would be by it at the end, I had no idea. Such a wonderful surprise!

There are times in any media where it surprises you by connecting or speaking to you in some deep way because of what you’re going through or what you’ve been through. I had it with a little college play I went to because I had to and was surprised when the tears fell. Not a big crier, but it related to struggles in my family. I think that’s kinda of the goal in anything dramatic or philosophical in purpose. My most recent games played are the Metro games, and I’d recommend them as far as you can find a shooter game that actually has choices and impact save for like- what, Black Ops 2? The final game is such an amazing capstone to the games.

I was so happy when they hugged at the end because goddammit did they both need it. I thought exactly the same about Amicia when I was playing the game, and you articulated it very well. The Macula and by extension Huge (a little bit) feel like a MacGuffin, and the story is all about the journey of Amicia. From the sisterhood to the pseudo-family and ultimately the sacrificing and letting go. It's a very beautifully told story in the medium of a video game. Some flaws aside, it is a very emotional game.

Sharing your story truly hit me and I'm impressed by your bravery and strength to talk about it. A lot of emotional maturity right there and you help a lot of people by doing so. Thank you! Regarding your videos and the content you make, I've been following you for some time now and in my opinion your content is top-tier. I have never played Plague Tale but it doesn't matter, still watch all your uploads. Without a doubt, you could build a full-time career on it and become really really big if you found time to upload more regularly. Reason being that you have a thorough and funny yet brilliant and honest way of reviewing games and making your point come across. You are great, man! I'm sorry for your loss. Cancer can be so unforgiving and I'm coming up on the one-year anniversary of losing one of my oldest friends to it. I'll admit to crying during this video and I can't imagine how it must have been for you to play it, but I'm happy it ended up helping you. PS: I might be the one person who hasn't played either game but still enjoyed watching to the end. Can't wait for your Hearts of Stone "what would Geralt do" video!

I just finished both games and came across your video. I am very sorry about your sister and I hope you’re doing well right now. Thank you for this great video that gave great insights on what they can do after the ending of the game. Personally, A Plague Tale is the game I’ve been the most emotionally impacted by because of the build up in the relationship between the siblings and how it ended. I really couldn’t care less about the depth in gameplay (its most criticized aspect) because I’ve just bonded so much with Amicia and Hugo in both games. The best parts of it being the interactions between them and how they expressed their love for each other. So seeing Hugo accept his death and Amicia keeping the fight to save him until the last second truly broke me when I finished the game. NO game did this to me in 15+ years I’ve been playing video games and especially story driven ones. If they make a third game, I really hope they don’t ruin the ending of requiem wether we play with Amicia again or in a modern day plague as foreshadowed in the post credit scene.

I extend my condolences for your loss. The Plague Tale games are exceptional, skillfully addressing the theme of losing loved ones. I encourage anyone reading this to experience both games in French.

My sincerest condolences to you, my friend. It is something that I truly empathise with as last year I lost my elder sister too, also as a result of cancer. Watching your videos has given me a lot of enjoyment over the last year and a bit, at times where sometimes I don't know quite where to turn, so for that I thank you! Stay well.

Great video, you just gained a sub. And yes, great videogame, I notice I tend to like most stories that deal with negative emotions or aspects of life, Requiem story is brutal by most standards, but it feels "real" if you know what I mean, like IRL bad things happen and consequences occur, unlike the superhero stories where nobody ever dies and everyone can just resurrect lol. But as crushing as Requiem is I don't think of the game as "depressing" neccessarily, Amicia and Hugo got to know each other and know life, and celebrate it at times even if it was miserable most of the time. It is depressing yes, but it is beautiful in its own way. Again, great video and I hope you keep getting better.

A Plague Tale Requiem broke me too :') but it's my most favorite game! The other must be Witcher 3 and Elden Ring, which makes me happy because I see those are also what you're interested in. Subscribed! Thank you for making great videos~ ❤

I, too, have suffered the loss of losing one of my sisters, who was 3 years older than me and probably the one I was closest with. Fast forward a few years, and I suffered a broken heart, and only 5 months later, then the death of another loved one. Then I played requiem and the ending broke me. After another couple of years, I feel like I'm in a much better spot, and I'm meeting lots of new people trying new things again. I feel like playing these games has helped speed along the grieving process.

4:28 When I played Innocence i didn't really feel that way because the only kills I did were the mandatory ones and sneaked my way through 99% of the game which made the experience that much better. Good point but i loved the way it was handled, lets you go cowabunga if thats your style or play like an actual stealth game.

I don’t really see how that changes the point I’m making. There are easily 20+ required kills throughout the game… that’s a lot of murder for anyone.

My condolences for your sister. Stay strong! I don't cry easily either and this game made me cry at the end when they forced me to kill Hugo. As someone who has a younger sibling myself, that moment was too much for me. Thanks for another amazing video!

You're the neon knight (emphasis on the knight), so you'll overcome the challenges that you have with you/life And whatever you do you'll make the best out of it
