A New Shower Ceiling and Roof on a 1999 Winnebago?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is part 2 to the 1999 Winnebago Adventurer roof replacement. I had to do some additional modifications to get the roof secured on this RV. I did end up replacing the rotten ceiling panel in the shower and got the roof re-built and I think it looks pretty good. Any bubbles in the roof deck are from the expanding foam I filled the hollows in the roof with, but the did compress back over time.

You're so humble it cracks me up every time. People that have never replaced an RV roof (or any major RV repair) have no idea. So many screws and scraping and cleaning and dodgy factory engineering when you are cursing them and wondering just what the hell they were thinking when they decided to build it that way. And WHEN you find the water damage you just stand there looking at it thinking "how in the hell are we gonna replace that and patch it into the original stuff..." I figured out why so many people like your videos. The end where it always look new again and all the problems you break down in the video one by one have finally been taken care of. Everyone is working on some problem, maybe not an RV roof, but you have to approach it the same way. They are looking forward to when they can stand there in their own life and go "it's fixed. It may not be 100% perfect but it's as good as I can make it and on to the next one"

This technical how to or how to get it done is excellent detail and information. My suggestion to anyone replacing any wood on an RV is to think of it as a boat on wheels and to saturate all new raw wood with a penetrating epoxy resin so any future water can’t get in and wet the treated wood. The wood fibers can’t absorb water if they are sealed with penetrating epoxy resin.

Love this channel! Fantastic information. There seems to be a total meltdown on the internet about Winnebago/fiberglass roof lap sealant choices, procedures, and do' and don'ts. I know thanks to you, to not use Dicor but the Winnebago site is undeciferable to most of us... The forums are chock full of theories and work done by speculating rubes, and secondhand heresay. Most of it is just plain wrong. Could you (pleeeeez) do a Winnebago skylight/roof vent sealant touch-up, reseal/maintenance process? Can you simply ancohol prep a small area and silicone lap cement over a small spot or....? Thanks for all you do!

I had the same problem on our 1999 34V and would like to know if it is relatively easy to remove and replace the shower and hall walls to 'trap' the new shower roof segment? I replaced mine with a piece of nice 5mm sheeting (~0.190 inches) purchased at Lowes. Applied a clear stain finish that came out nice; no carpet and found it better for the shower humidity. The problem is even though I did use the Sta-Put SP2, it has since de-laminated from the foam. I was able to remove the cabinet and trap a 3/4 in, segment. Thus the desire to make it again a new slightly larger piece and trap the edges under the walls by approximately one inch thus giving contact on all four sides. Thanks again for these very informative videos.

Awesome job James. You are not afraid to tackle the difficult jobs, that's for sure. Does that orange spray foam adhesive expand at all before it cures. I ask because our 2003 Newmar Dutch Star DP has several bay doors with a few areas where the outer filon(or whatever it is) has delaminated from the foam core of the bay door. In some areas it's a bubble and in some areas it's a depression(concave), like the foam sunk it. Newmar says it and the aluminum extrusion that make up the bay door were put together with screws in the aluminum and Sika flex adhesive between the foam, outer and inner skins(inner skin looks like plastic or vinyl). Do you think a careful application of heat from a heat gun would loosen the Sika flex? I've never used Sika flex before. Thanks a million!
