Jayco Kiwi 17a Ceiling Repair! Cheap & Easy Method

The renovations on our little Jayco Kiwi continue! When we bought the camper in the fall of 2018 there was significant water damage to the ceiling. I didn't want to tear out the entire ceiling but did want a neat and clean finish for the damaged area.
By using vinyl soffit material the repair went pretty fast, was relatively cheap (about $50) and came out great. Thanks for taking a look!

Thank You for sharing. It’s ver helpful to see what others have done to repair there RV’s especially the older ones that no longer. Sell replacement parts. You definitely have to get creative. Your ceiling looks Really Nice 👍. I think we are going to do the same :). I’m excited to watch your wall replacement video. Happy Camping!! ⛺️

I think your idea is great! Covering it up is sometimes the best option, considering that its not a vintage or super expensive trailer. As well if the roof is in good shape (no leaks) that damage was hardly a thing to be concerned about. I might be using this technique on my 1967 Winnebago. Although, this is a collectable vintage rv, so I'm removing the entire ceiling. Happy campin'

There is a mold spray you can use. Spray it on heavy leave sit 24 hours and kills all jerms and stops mold from mutations. Then cover up once 100% dry.

I’m curious why you used J channel if the soffit doesn’t actually slot into the soffit. It would just lay on top of the J channel and create a visible inner gap at the corners this way

I am attempting to purchase this exact camper from a gentleman on Facebook Marketplace as well. He believes the roof around the A/C is leaking. If that is the case, what would be your recommendation to repair it? Can the A/C be removed from the top easily?

Proske Gaming we just did a roof and ceiling repair on a class a motor home. To remove the ac unit we went from the inside and after removing the interior cover there was a metal cover that bolted to the bottom side of the ac unit up top. Just four bolts then just had to disconnect the wiring. After that the ac unit lifts up. Ac unit had foam cushions on bottom side that stuck to the roof but that’s about it.

I have a 2003 Kiwi 17A. Due to some water issues I have had to replace the floor. Do you have any images or video of the area under the seats? Due to family illnesses it has been a while since I took things apart. Thanks for posting your videos and hope your enjoying your trailer!

Hi Joseph. I understand delays in renovations, sorry to hear that. I don't have any photos that really show those areas. We did tear out a lot of the floor that was water damaged farther back and then rebuilt some of the supports. We then just used 3/8 plywood for new flooring. Our renovation is more workmanlike and built for strength and usability rather than a real pretty remodel. Although it has come together pretty well. Still have lots to do. Best of luck to you.

You would need to find a vinyl siding distributor in your area, the J channel and soffit pieces are 12’ long FYI, also I would look into using a beaded soffit, it’s a shallower profile and replicates bead board and I think it would be better for an interior, I don’t recommend trying to glue this product to a ceiling though, with expansion and contraction of vinyl it’s going to work its way loose in time, you will need to fasten it so that it can move, that’s what the nail slots are for. I would use some screws and just don’t over tighten them. Hope this helps!
