I don't even care what it's about, I'm preordering that book with Boo on the cover as soon as it's possible to do so. The Baldur's Gate games were my introduction to D&D as a kid, and anything associated with them will always hold a special place in my heart. I may or may not have teared up looking at the map of Candlekeep in Candlekeep Mysteries... Thanks for the video update, Mr. Hulmes! I haven't had time to watch anything from D&D Celebration (but I'm definitely going to watch the Nights of Eveningstar special), so I appreciated the highlights. I hope you do a video about The Wild Beyond the Witchlight soon! :)

9 month waiting room for new content from our boy anyone?

Exciting times ahead! I'm new to D&D but I've had good fun with it. I found DnD Beyond is great for making characters quickly, but i love the idea of getting family and friends together around the table for the actual campaign and using that software as an extra tool.

I'd heard that there was news, but I wasn't sure exactly what the deal is, so thank you very much for the informative and concise video!

So, setting agnostic races joke: a thiefling, a gith, a warforged and a symic hybrid met in a tavern.

Man, I am excited to see Mark is back! More excited than I was about pretty much anything WotC released after Eberron: Rising from the last War. Not really been looking forward to Tasha's or anything after, tbh. Still gonna watch a certain British actualplay D&D show, but might take a break from D&D. I did get my hands on the Core Rules for CthulhuTech, though, might be looking into that.

So glad to see a new video I am cautiously hype for a class overhaul , improve monks and rangers

We are very excited about the new edition and hope that it brings better story telling, easier understand of rules and, fixes that are needed. Also love the fact that it will be 5E compatible. Although not sure how we feel about the NPC not having spell slots. We will see how that goes.

If they are going to keep going in the same direction they have been with the races, then I hope they also do an overhaul of human. The thing that made them unique was their flexibility, and if now everyone is flexible then humans need something new to stand out.

I couldn’t throw my books out if I wanted to since I used your link in High Rollers to buy the Legendary Bundle on D&D Beyond. No regrets, it’s been awesome!

I hope they take to opportunity to give a small overhaul to all the classes. They could all use a little updating and rebalancing.

Man, I'm excited to see what these new things will be, if I can be honest. I hope I'm not self hyping it too much, but I really want this to be really good!

Nice to see a new video, hoping that it's not a money grab for Wizards, but a troubleshooting move.

A 5.5 Players handbook making standing up 10ft instead of 1/2 your movement speed ect. Action economy is the number one homebrew seen after magic items. Travel needs to be broken down aswell.

i like the idea of collating all of the player races,, in to one book. i think in my last home campaign if i wanted to put all the characters on dnd beyond i would have to add 4-5 books. but to have them all in one place will make it cheaper to buy the content, which i also think will help massively if they are moving to doing online table top and you needing extra digital copies of the books for that new style of play.

Marks back on youtube, this is a miracle.

I find it weird that for a game called Dungeons & Dragons there is little content in the DMG 5e on how to actually run a dungeon, content that was present in previous versions.

With all this multiverse talk I would flip if we would get campaign in Sigil. The hub of the multiverse!

A great summary, thanks. Looking forward to some quality changes, especially if they can promote some of the best parts of earlier editions and rid themselves of some of the unnecessary chaff. Making things easier for DMs would also be bliss.

Also, you and your group can still play E5 as it is currently without having to add the next evolution.

They were sure to lay it on pretty thick that one of the never before seen settings next year would be terrifying. About 6 months from now we're probably gonna get an Innistrad setting book. That fits the delay pattern from the release of a popular mtg set to its D&D book. The cards out right now are the third time they've printed an Innistrad card set. They can't help themselves when it comes to gritty gothic horror edge lording in D&D books. They'll turn Innistrad into next year's crossover. The never before seen format for the two classic settings raises some unsettling questions. I'm hoping they didn't just boil dragonlance and spelljammer down to a DM screen and an essentials kit style box set.

Personally, I hope they don't remove the old racial stats. I like that if I were to play a Goliath Wizard I'd be stronger than an equivalent Gnome for example. With the new system I could do that, but it makes you feel like you're playing the game wrong. I think racial stats add to roleplay and with the current system there's nothing to stop you levelling up your Gnome to end up stronger than your average Goliath. In fact that's a great way to show how awesome your player is or has become. Ideally they'd keep racial stats and just list the custom lineage system as an alternate option.

I can see them doing something like removing racial bonuses and keeping the Custom Lineage thing, but adding a suggestion in the race entries like they do with the quick build suggestions for Classes, like "Typical high elves will usually have +2 Dex +1 Int" or something. That way you'd still get the idea of what average members of a race leans towards while still having the freedom to choose otherwise.

Hey Mark not sure if this is the best place to reach you but I hate twitter so there... I'm messaging as I would PLEASE ask you to do another Star Wars Armada video with Ben! I know it's a long time ago, and Star Wars isn't in the public conciousness as much, but honestly Star Wars Armada is just SO GOOD, and your game with Ben was awesome! Would love to see some more content, even if it is hard to produce, with some more great flavourful battles and trying out different fleets. That's about it dude. Please consider it though! 1:18 Fully compatible new books in 2024? Cool and good. I'm not really a fan of keeping multiple copies of the same but a little different books. Unless they're HP books and collector's covers, then I will. 3:33 Removal of ability score bonuses & penalties? Not sure how I feel about that just yet. You've got another campaign setting in the works? Cool! 4:28 I grew up with physical copies so I'm not a fan of digital personally. I understand the ease and sharing abilities but I like the feel of physical copies. 5:02 i do agree that D&D Beyond has been SUPER helpful when playing. Not having to use pen & paper, lose track of spell slots, HP, inventory has been a MASSIVE load off. I feel bad for the early people that had to do all that. I probably wouldn't have started playing myself is pen & paper were still the norm (my brain is NOT HAPPY with having to track a million things). All considered, actually looks pretty cool to have all this new books and such. Still have to catch up on buying some of the newer books that came out this year but all in all, seems pretty exciting.

When will there be a new video?

They don't have to change anything in a new edition, just condense what they have . One book of monsters instead of three. All races and classes in a single book. The Wilderness Survival Guide included in DMG. An update to Gamma World and Boot Hill would be nice. If they hold those licenses.

The d20 system lives on.

Thanks very much for the summary - I'd missed the streams over the weekend and this was great for bringing me up to speed. On Digital, I'm a little nervous. It feels like a slam-dunk - I'm not a fan of buying a physical book plus D&D Beyond and VTT copies, so anything that can help with that would be awesome. But I'd also be disappointed if they launched their own VTT, especially as the community has managed to innovate with some amazing tools. Instead, I'd like to see better syndication tools - buy once from WotC, and get all your content pop up on your favouite platform. And yes, I'd love to see a further shift into the RP side of D&D. If a new edition helps to trim some of the fat and fortify the focus on interactive storytelling, I'm all for it.

I am very excited for the expansion of the rules. But I also feel a bit exhausted by the amount of content Wizards is producing, I know they want to (and do, do) a book every quarter. But to me that's just a bit exhausting at this point.

Good thing you didn't play in 3E or 4E, WotC pumped out at least one new book each and every month. Often, they would release two books in a given month! Keeping up back then was financially draining 😅😅😅

Guys it's 5.5th edition. Just like 3.5 which came before it. It's pretty normal.

I got big PBS Spacetime vibes from this, not sure why...

I want them to rename "spell level" to something like "spell tier". Since it can be confusing for newer players, and it's just really awkward to dance around such a game-y name during RP.

calling spells tier instead of level would work perfectly fine and i have no problems with calling spells different names aint gona work because no one is gona remember the order each spell name goes in and definitely wont work for new players

@@CthulhuianBunny nah, you're idea is fine, changing from "level" to "tier" vaguely sounds too much like a Todd Howard bought up DnD property, but overall it's just another tweak. John Denny on the other hand, wanting to make the wizard spell list about 50× worse to look through, has an absolute shite idea. I will give no other criticism of the idea, because I dont want to give myself an aneurism

Wonder if 'Monsters of the Multiverse' will be something other than the MM 2.0. I already rework monsters, c'mon, give me some new templates to work from instead of the Same Array But Slightly Different.

I know they will never go back to 3.5s level of complexity but I reallllly wish that 5.5 would at least give us more meat on the bone. I had to eventually go back to PF1e because me and my table just got too bored with the limited choices at our fingertips. They eventually did release more options but.. its just not enough for us. Given Wotc seems to be going more the coast of sanding down the system and overcorrecting in the process of trying to deal with a more socially aware tabletop space.. eh. I'll give 5.5 a look but I feel like it will be the same as 5e. More fun to watch other people play than to actually play oneself.

I hope they bring back prestige classes.

I dont understand the change spellcaster NPC stat tbh. like in one hand its simplfied with more clear actions on what to do. on the other hand. what is harder about tracking spell slots rather than number of time used a single spell. like having like 3 spells used 3 times a day each you will have to track each spell separately without the ablity to upcast them while as spellslots you can just track the spell slots in general ! the only change is like removing the class from the middle of the stat and put it up and from moving the spell casting ablity from the traits to the actions .... like it would have been easier if they put a very condensed summary of every spell in the action par rather than this or at least the "favorait" spell that this NPC like to use more often while leaving the old stat as it is.
