And don't let my jokey thumbnail convince you I'm not super excited for Candlekeep Mysteries (which I wrote an adventure for) either! Hopefully will be able to talk more about it and share details of my own adventure in it soon!

MCDM stuff is so good! Not to mention how awesome Colville’s “I pay employees and freelancers as much as the company can afford to” attitude is!

So true. I was flipping through Strongholds & Followers' bestiary the other day before lending it to my DM, and I noticed the footnote about how if you need dialogue for a Celestial, just grab a random Yes lyric from one or two of their most out-there albums (I don't recall which or have my copy handy, but Matt was very specific). You definitely would not see that in a WOTC product.

YES! 100% this is a great product. the minute I saw the cover art and heard the metal riff I was hooked. So pleased to find out the content backs up the concept. being of the generation that played 2e back in the late 80s I love the feel that harks back to a golden age yet is still relevant to my game today. MCDN knows whats up and James Introcaso and Team knocked this out of the park. Arcadia is stupid dope!
I'm glad to watch your channel for the first time, having been sent here by Matt Colville during the MCDM Arcadia stream. Nice video and I look forward to checking out more of your content.

Slowly getting there. Definitely need to do more DM advice/help stuff. Thanks for checking the channel out!
Dragon Magazine is back. And it’s better than ever!
I always chuckle when Mark or Matt refer to each other, they are so complimentary and positive.
Usability is, quite strangely, an increasingly unappreciated aspect of a lot of modern RPG products. So many things are built to fit with a theme or to beef up a new book that they can often be awkward to slot in to a preexisting game. Really excited to see MCDM vowing to do the opposite. Fingers crossed they do more.
It's great to see the love being spread throughout the KZread DnD community! Can't wait to see what the future holds.
So.... I must be honest, I’m just here to say thanks! I started watching your Aerois campaign one day by accident 🤷🏼♂️ And after the first episode wanted to find a game somewhere online (started playing 5e during COVID-19). After finding a group and game I played for about 4 months. Then I found a few 1 shots.... Then I found another group and we just started our own campaign. After listening to the amazing episode you ran in The Valley of Storms I decided to try my hand at being a new DM... cause why not 🤷🏼♂️ So I offered a 1shot to my normal group and they were all excited to play (especially the DM). It was just a random published module, but I tried to RP the NPC and create meaningful moments. And by the end I was exhausted! But the feedback I got for the players (some also now some somewhat experienced) was very rewarding! This is probably the wrong place to post this, but I definitely owe my experience and introduction to D&D to you. And it’s been a great experience! So thanks a ton 👍🏼🙃
Sounds really in keeping with Matt’s making more GMs goal.
absolutely love these videos mark! really showcase interesting stuff I wouldn't normally find and are just generally really informative and funny videos, keep doing what you're doing!
my favorite word that people are using to describe this is "Actionable" which means that, no matter what, you should be able to USE the things you see in Arcadia. It's not exclusive to certains worlds or settings or what have you, if it's in Arcadia, you can find a way to use it.
Fantastic review Mark! Your excitement is infectious :D I wouldn't have payed much attention to Arcadia had you not posted this but now I definitely will. Looking forward to the LARP video & hearing more about your work in Candlekeep Mysteries!
This sounds great, I am definitely going to check this out. Thank you for talking about this as I would have probably missed this otherwise.
Good man Sherlock sponsoring another D&D youtuber. Glad to hear it's good! Now I am wondering how good it could be... So much stuff, so little money. I don't think I need any new subclasses though xP

Arcadia is AWESOME! added them on patreon to get access and i couldn't be happier. Also, thanks for this vid Mark, stuff like this goes a long way to building a more cohesive and supportive community for our beloved hobby.
one thing I love about magazines are the ads...I would love to see ads for d&d or gm products...online, real, whatever. New dm would love to know what is out there besides googling and trying to figure out what is not a fake site. lol

honestly this is not a bad idea, it would be cool to see some ad slots open up where small RPG creators can feature their stuff
I’m convinced, I’ll sign up for their patreon.
My favorite article was definitely the mounted combat rules and adventure. I was FLOORED when I clicked a link IN THE PDF that took me a professionally voice acted speech from an NPC's character WITH MUSIC that you can play for your players in the adventure! That is just so cool. I'm so ready for regular awesome actionable content for D&D. Old dragon magazines have been a lifeline for me for fun new ideas.
I was gonna hold off on this for budget reasons but you've sold me on it, this is too cool to miss out on and excited to get inspired!
This. This point right here that you make in this video, is why I hope this magazine makes it. That and it sounds like Matt is going to be trying to pull in ideas from all over to create create content. Which, as someone who missed out on the original D&D magazine I am super excited to see multiple view points of the game, and have a spot light shine some new adventure writers or mechanic builders out there that other wise might not have been discovered.
Thanks for the introduction, I'm definitely dropping by the patreon, it sounds epic!
Just subbed on their patreon after seeing your video Mark, keep up the good work with the content :D
The best D&D content are things that give the DM and players both things, so I love Arcadia, I have been making many plans since I read it on release day!
Bought, read, loved. Thanks for the recommendation Mark!
Arcadia is beautiful, and the first Patreon I supported. Worth the monthly bit, to have access to every issue.
Just picked this up after your rec! I'm a new(ish) dm and I always find that I have to take a lot of time modifying base dnd to fit my table, so this kind of thing sounds like an amazing resource.
Just picked up my copy! Thanks for pointing me in this direction! I'm familiar with Matt and MCDM, but I totally missed this!
I've always been weary of using homebrew stuff, but it's great to see someone experienced collating good useable TESTED stuff by experienced DMs and players
@JackOfHearts42
3 жыл бұрын
I wonder why though you would be wear about homebrew. Some of the third party publishers have more staff & time to spend than WotC. Also, i would only consider "homebrew" as something the DM of that specific game (or one random person posted) came up with, not a company whose reputation and livelihood depends on its success. WotC is great at system design, but lacklustre at content design in my opinion.

I signed up arcadia yesterday and first copy was fantastic. This is a great resource.
Hey Mark thanks for bringing this to my attention. I purchased issue 1 because of you and boy is there some fun stuff in there! Thanks man!
The mounted combat rules are something that has been needed for decades. I remember in AD&D having Stoneskin regularly cast on my horse just to keep it alive. Now a horse (or other mount) scales with the rider when being ridden.
no script is best script. words from the heart, i think is most of the time is the strongest. love your work Mark, dont stop
What i love about good homebrew content is even if i had no intrest in the topic or i dont think it will fit into a campaign is their excitement for it shows through when reading it which in itself can inspire the reader to think about what they want in their game and i find matt/mcdm do this very well
Couldn’t agree more, bought this a day or so ago and it’s dope. Freakin dope. Excited to try and use most of this in an upcoming campaign.
Preaching to the converted Mark. MCDM rocks and Arcadia took me back to the good ole days for Dragon Magazine. (I was much more of a player back in day so I never got Dungeon] 😋 Keep on spreading the word brother.

Well I'm sold, just bought a copy of Issue 1!
I've never been really interested in the Wizards of the Coasts expansions because I know I would have to DM them for my friends. They just seem too confusing and intimidating for me to figure out, so I'm glad you shared this option. They way you explained what Arcadia contains seems very interesting and approachable to someone not super comfortable with DMing.
@druid_zephyrus
3 жыл бұрын
The standard for DMing is so low that just doing it will give you so much credulity within your friend group. Other than that: Use what you love and modify where necessary. I made His Dark Material, Obsidian Chronicles, and The Demon Child Trilogy and simply asked, what would happen if Princes of the Apocalypse had these characters in its world. And then I _borrowed_ the map of Derlavia from The Darkness Series, (Turtledove). Took a former PC, made them Thanos and now here we are in a campaign that is split into two groups of players 20k years apart.

This sounds amazing
Mark, you got me pumped!
100% agree with you that this should be appearing in DnD books. Honestly after reading through some of the magazine so far. This is the best product I have seen in a while, I would argue better than DnD published content at the moment. So keen to use everything in this book.
Sold! Got mine just now.
I was on the fence about picking up Arcadia, but you've sold me on it. Official content from Wizards is sorely lacking when it comes to DM advice on how to apply the information in their books to in-game situations ("here's a whole bunch of text and stat blocks...aaand go!"), and third party content has really been picking up the slack (big favourite of mine is Keith Ammann's 'The Monsters Know' blog/book, which I've used to help run my monsters for years now). I'm excited to see what's next for Arcadia.
Id like to see mark run a new dnd campaign on here :)
Excited to read the celestial part no cap
I wish WotC bothered to take these lessons to heart. The indie scene continually does better for the people running the game than the official company.

I dunno Mark, some of the Kobold Press stuff is looking pretty juicy. Now post a community poll and comment in it with high trending keywords yourself, and optimise that audience engagement babyyyy
Absolutely!!! I’ve been shelling out $50 a book for three subclasses and a few race options In some of the WOTC hardcovers and while I’m not a huge fan of Colvilles personal approach/mechanical understanding, I think the people he’s hiring for this material are doing an outstanding job.

Issue I have is there is SOOOO much free homebrew content and a lot of it is completely free. Sure I will pay a premium for something I specifically want on DMsGuild or a premium for WotC with their more thoroughly written and tested content. But to pay a premium for a magazine that has entirely random content just because its produced by Matt Coleville, it is hard to justify.

You dont need to write your own world, write an adventure, use a published world or a published world. What you need is something in a cave, players who want the thing in the cave, and enemies in the cave who want to stop them. Everything your worried about can come naturally after.
