Hi Mark, long time fan of your content, and I'm glad you're happy with your decision about where you want to take this channel and it's content. As part of your community engagement, would you consider doing a semi-regular map/campaign ideas/lore video where the community send in some of their work and you could talk constructively about what you like? For example, a series of videos about fan submitted maps and related tips and tricks on worldbuilding?

Yesterday, I played my first pen and paper game with a bunch of friends (all beginners except for 2) and now we‘re planning to start dungeons and dragons. I was a bit insecure about it because I don‘t feel like I fit into the trope of a dnd player, I‘m a very girly girl and not that into stereotypically „„nerdy““ stuff. We had a blast playing though, and after watching this I feel much more confident, so thanks a lot!

This is *exactly* the type of video I hoped to find when I finally, once and for all, sought out a properly thorough explanation of D&D. Since the very first time I heard the words "Dungeons & Dragons" as a young schoolboy it has baffled me. Hell, I though it was a video game for well over a decade! The many friends and co-workers who play have never been able to sufficiently cover all of the important bases, such that it made sense. You, on the other hand, nailed it! I appreciate you taking the time to make this easily digestible crash course on such a nuanced and vivid world. AT LAST! I FINALLY GET!

I've always found D&D slightly intimidating due to organising / learning rules etc. I think I'll finally give it ago tho. I mainly paint small warhammy mini's etc. Great effort on the content & look forward to the bright future of this channel :)

Thank you so much for this. I've been trying to get into D&D for years, but most groups don't want a noob. I finally found a group and I'm playing my first game of D&D tomorrow! I had tried reading the player's handbook, but found the 300+ pages a tad overwhelming for a Saturday night. This video was a very refreshing and welcome intro to the game. Thank you!

I've been intrigued by D&D for a while, and I've watched several "intro to D&D" videos. They're all helpful in their own ways, but this one is my personal favorite. It's comprehensive enough for me to have a sense of what's going on without bogging down in TOO many details, and it's simple enough to follow. Thanks for creating it!

Thank you, Mark. I've been wanting to play some DND for myself ever since you guys started your Lightfall campaign, but was very overwhelmed by the many rules (and not knowing if people would be interested). This video was extremely helpful in alleviating some of the stress and worries of trying to DM for my first time. Thank you for introducing me to DND. I never would have known what it was if I hadn't found you guys, and it has been one of my favorite things to watch each week. I started getting a group together recently, and I think we're all really excited to get started soon. Again, thank you Mark for putting so much effort into this video to make it easier to figure out.

I've always been interested in learning D&D but I never had the friends to play it with. Recently, one of my closest friends got into it. He likes playing as the DM. Unfortunately, he's in another country, but I've known him for 6 years. None of his friends like to play IRL, despite the fact he has the boardgame and setup. So, I have decided to take on learning the rules and gameplay of Dungeons & Dragons so that [Likely in a few years time] I will be able to make my way over there, so that we can play together and have a great time. This is my first step towards it. [P.S. Brilliant video, made me laugh and helped me learn. Thank youuuu!]

I must say, this is perhaps one of the best "Dungeons & Dragons: How Do?" videos I've seen yet. 22:12 - It should be noted that "Critical Fumbles" were _never_ a core rule of D&D in _any_ edition _ever*._ The rule was introduced to D&D in the Dragon Magazine issue #39 article "Critical Hits and Spectacular Misses", and became such a popular house rule that the majority of players eventually came to believe that it was an actual part of the game. However, the rule only ever started appearing in the Dungeon Master's Guides from 3rd Edition onward as an optional rule (4th Edition even actively cautions against it). Using the core rules, the _only_ effect a Natural 1 has _ever_ had is an automatic miss on your attack roll. *Note that I personally have only played from AD&D onwards, so maybe it _was_ a core rule back in 1st Edition.

Thank you for this wonderful video. Many many moons ago in Faerun, I had a few quests with 2nd Ed. Advance. It was confusing, frustrating, and for the most part the friends I had at the time, we pretty much threw out dice rolling altogether. Much later in life, being asked to attend a quest and basically starting out from scratch (wanting to play by rules now), this video helped explain everything I need to know. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video to explain the basics, and making sense of the Player's Handguide. So much information overload, and this video cleared that right up. Thank you kind sir!

As for dressing up, I think it's a great idea for everyone to wear one item of clothing (a cloak, hat, ring, whatever) that connect your person to your character. This minor detail slowly builds character identity in the group, preserves continuity between sessions, and also builds more immersion because you get the "okay" to actually be your character (it's not just your imagination). More than this is too much and less than this makes it too casual. It's a small request for the DM and it makes it more interesting to those who might watch on youtube or wherever.

This is extremely helpful. My son has shown interest in D&D. While I always wanted to play, I did not have friends into it growing up and when I met a group I was moving away only getting to play a couple times with them. They were a hardcore group, showed up in costumes and in character, had tons of miniatures, 3d models for towns, dungeons, and maps, handbooks galore, physical coins for gold, silver, copper, etc... 3 side die, 4 sides, 6 sided, 10 sided, 12 sided, 20 sided, 100 sided... well you get the point. So as my son asked about it, I looked into it and it all seemed so overwhelming. I am now on the right path to start preparing, his birthday is a week after christmas so a good chance to get all he needs and more. I plan to DM a game during his sleepover on his bday and hopefully hook a few of his friends on it so he can start a group of his own.

Don't worry about the rules so much. DM should get an understanding for how skill checks, attack rolls work, etc. Players should just learn what their characters can do. Figure out the rest by playing the game. Get everyone to watch an episode of HighRollers (my D&D show) as an example of play.
