10cc are a great English rock band from the 70's. This group was super talented as every member was a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer & producer. "I'm Not In Love" was their biggest hit in 1975 but they had other songs such as "The Things We Do For Love", "Rubber Bullets", "The Dean & I", "The Wall Street Shuffle", "Silly Love", "Life Is A Minestrone", "Art For Art's Sake", "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" etc.

Brings back memories of my childhood. When this song came out in '76 the country was celebrating our bicentennial, many parties and just an overall good patriotic feeling. Everybody seemed much happier back then. Even though I think that year my Dad was laid off from work from a coal miner strike in NEPA and we were on food stamps, and got the good 'ole blocks of cheese ...it was still a great childhood.

This song really grabs me. I love the chord change coming out of the "oooh you make me love you..." part and then another great chord change after "...and you're feelin like a part of you is dying." They also shift from a dreamy kind of sound with the organ to a drier sound emphasizing the guitars. You didn't hear many songs like that on the radio when it came out.

The things we do for love sounds simple, but 10cc was known for their complex vocal layering which is a trademark sound and is clearly present in this song with more listens. An excellent number you haven't heard from 10cc is "I'm Mandy, Fly Me". Another piece that certainly didn't make it onto hit radio, but was on FM "album rock" stations was "Feel the Benefit (Pts. 1, 2 & 3)" which certainly contains a message appropriate for this moment in time. I think its around 10 plus minutes long, but you would do yourselves a favour by listening to it.

According to Billboard - many famous artists never even had a Hot 100 #1 hit. Bruce Springsteen for one did not have a #1 song. Neither did James Brown. Creedence Clearwater Revival? Nope. Bassist Graham Gouldman was a prolific and highly successful songwriter in his own right, particularly in the 60's/'70's. He wrote hits for the Yardbirds, (whose members included Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page), Hermans Hermits, the Hollies, Ohio Express, among many others. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014.

This was a really good song and all over the radio in the early to mid 80s. "Like walkin' in the rain an' the snow, when there's nowhere to go . . ." What a great lyric.

YEEEEESSSSS!!!! Turns out I remember 95% of this song even though I haven't heard it in YEARS! A total knee-jerk reaction. I just started singing along. I wasn't even trying. It just came out. And the few words I didn't know, were ones I never knew.

First time Commentor long time viewer, the reason why this song has a different vibe to previous songs is 2 of rhe founding members Kevin Godley and Lawrence 'Lol' Creme had left the band, so the two remaining members Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman decided on a different direction. Either way great reaction to a Fantastic band!! 🙏❤️

This comes form the album "Deceptive Bends", the first album released after the group split. The two that are singing are Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman. The two that left were Lol Creme and Kevin Godley. Four super creative artists could not co-exist in one band. The 4 had been really close before the split, in fact, Lol and Eric's wives were sisters.
