It's important to note that playing video games isn't the source of the problem here. In the description given for DC's life before going over the medical side of things, it was stated that he was in a pretty rough place in life. Being in about the same spot right now, video games are a much needed escape for me. While I am aware that too much escapism is a bad thing, I think its much more important to address the root cause of WHY someone spending so much time gaming, rather than just telling people to limit their screen time. I've had people telling me my whole life that video games are ruining my life, and if I don't throw away my consoles I'll end up a loser, but in all seriousness, video games saved my life. Almost all the close friends I have I found online, and it gives me something that I can be passionate about without having to be anxious.

NDS is a 25 year old man presenting to the emergency room with a sore anus and testicles. See NDS and his girlfriend got into a fight that lasted an hour. Then an hour after the fight him and his girlfriend were having make up sex unknowingly to NDS his girlfriend suddenly kneeled him in the testicles accidentally. immediately searing pain was felt all the way to his stomach he rolled around in pain. Couple hours goes by and he still feels pain. Then he blacked out 911 is called and he’s brought to the emergency room where we are now... given his present I’ll ness we can determine that this is caused by the testicles... but something is wrong! Ultrasound concluded that NDS has only one testicle further examination shows that his other testicle ripped thru the thin layer of his anus and now is logged in his anal cavity! Surgery was done to remove the testicle from his anus... medication and follow up was done...NDS made a recovery

We were thankfully only open for 12 hours a day so they had to get up and go home after when we were closing but hands down no doubt in my mind if we WERE open 24 hours, I could easily see a couple of our regulars getting to the point we'd have to call EMS because they would practically live there. I love gaming and that's why I worked there, but I also know there is a limit and I'll always remember reading that for the first time and how it shocked me.

I did stuff like this in my late teens and early 20s. Not quite to this magnitude, but still. Turns out i have ADHD, and treatment resistant depression and anxiety. Video games was just a way for my brain to get that little bit of dopamine it so desperately wanted. Now that im being treated, i don't play video games near as much, and when i am sitting for extended periods of time, i get up and move around every couple of hours.

And I find that I don't have the need to play video games beyond a few hours a week as opposed to several tens of hours I used to play every week. What do you do with the left over time from not playing games anymore?

When I finally did, it was painful, but I’m very lucky that things went back to normal in a couple days.
