A Malayan Night Heron comes to drink at Turtle Pool

A few weeks ago a fire ripped through much of my conservation project - Hua Khayeng Nature Park in Thong Pha Phum on the West of Thailand including the area around Turtle Pool. We managed to get a water supply up and running again quite quickly, and have now been rewarded with a visit from a Malayan Night Heron. This is not just a relatively uncommon bird, but we are somewhat outside its normal range as well. Nonetheless, it is very welcome here.

Thanks Phil. I can't wait to get a hide constructed at this site as I've also picked up quite a few others bird species as well as mammals here, and even a couple of snakes.

Thanks Gijs.... we just had a bit more rain on the land, so I'm hoping that a number of 'water bird' species will be around. I hope to get into my hide over there in the next couple of days.

Yes… all seems to be recovering very well… I’ve even recorded a few new species since the fire. Of course, much of the neighbourhood also got burnt, whereas a corner of my land survived. I’ll be there at the weekend to try and get some of this stuff on my Sony.

Yes, indeed... and quite a surprise to see it on my land again. For your interest, I just filmed another one at a different water pool on this land, so it seems that we have a few around.

Yes.... it was really stunning last year to have an adult and a juvenile at this pool.
