A look at my shoeing rig.
Ойын-сауық
I have had quite a few requests to look at my shoeing rig so here is a quick look around at the setup, my tools and the shoes I am using at the moment.

That was thoroughly enjoyable.
Hi, just wanted to say thanks for this Gary, I'm off to train as a farrier in a few months so stuff like this is invaluable!
Great setup. Everything you need. Compact, organized, tidy. I love thrifty little rigs like that.

Mate, I gotta say I'm impressed by your setup, so organized!! As of this quarantine of late, I caught myself seeing your work and I grew the utmost respect for you lads that take care of this important task for the horses. Take care Gary cheers from Brazil!!

Thanks, will do!
Thanks for the tour Gary.
Thought you already did a tour? Might have been just the forge installation. But it's always a pleasure to see your setup.👍

I thought I might have done but I couldn't find it so thought I'd do another!
Wow, as a kid our blacksmith came in a old truck w/ wood sides + wood floor covered in wood boxes full of stuff , 🐴🐴🐴🐴🌟👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🐴🐴
Very interesting!! Thank you for showing us!
That is PROPer!! Schnikees! Made me drool a bit. Duct tape. Worldwide universal toolman's tool. Never leave home without. Wish farrier last summer would have just used a hair band instead of shaving off my mare's beautiful fetlocks & feathers without asking

omg i'd have gone nuts! the last time i had a new farrier coming i bandaged my geldings legs, so all the feathers were kept out of the way. his feet are big and heavy (shire x), so figured he had enough to cope with without feather issues too lmao
Thank you! I got lots of ideas now!
Dude I love your rig!!! I’d love to have one for overlanding!! I’m a hobby blacksmith and have learned so much from your videos! Wish I could study under you!
Thanks for showing your shoeing truck. Very interesting to someone (myself) who has never seen horses being shoed. Two questions 1) do you shoe mules, burros, or other equine? 2) When you knock the nails out of shoes at your anvil, do they fall into a pocket on the anvil or somewhere else? Thanks again for the tour

No, I don't shoe anything other than horses and ponies. The nails go into the pritchel hole in the anvil which has a magnet at the bottom to stop them falling on the ground. I just empty it every so often.
how did you get into Farrier work? also thank you for all your videos and hard work!
Nice shoeing rig brother
Wooow
Very nicely thought out. How do you do a brew up?
Wooooow
gary u do know what you've just let yourself in for... right?!! everyones gonna want to go metal detecting with you now lmao
Metal detecting videos pleasseeee 😁
What brand / style rasp are your green tang ones? The Farriers I have got old rasps from here (Australia) all seem to use Hella Red tab rasps here.

Gary, I wanted to ask. Is there a reason you don't clean hooves before doing work on them? Is it just too much work, or do you do it for a specific reason? I've always kind of wondered about that. Or anyone else that may know, please do let me know.

I don't know what you mean, clean them how?

@@garyhuston I mean like on most videos, there is a lot of dirt and likely manure within the horse's hooves. And you typically just carry on per usual, just by trimming and working the horseshoes on without cleaning them at all. I'd figured you'd likely hit them with a horse, or scrub them out with a brush. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I was just curious why you may not do it? Is it just not needed?

Once I take the shoe off I clean out the debris so I can see what needs trimming. They are best dry do no water. An old towel is good if it’s wet mud, otherwise as long as I can see what I’m doing it doesn’t matter.
