A little trip around the Deception Raceways slot car track and layout

A general video showing my layout up to this point in the build. What I have built to this date and what I plan on building in the future, with some slot car action at the end.

    @@BoonesSlotCarGarage I have no track or cars yet in this scale. I think that I need to go with stainless. But Carrera is more consumer propriety and, odd? Maybe I time to create a new track media. Nano-carbon fiber rail with Delrin or Kynar-flex-slot inlay for urethane sheet cores "Clark Foam" or molded into gyp-Crete? Like commercial led addressable ribbon. (with) lighted grooves "trailing and leading each car"? Why not? Along with (plastic printed) DCC inlay switch blade kits that are IR triggered. Also a new Apk. car and race inter-face. New universal Arduino .30cent (via Seede Pc) "modules" for retrofit all of your cars. A short bit of code from git hub, you have my gardentraincontrol for 143 DCC-SuperSlots. I have downloaded all of your videos. My wife is a fine oil painter. Me, more of a tool and die maker. She paints everything. Like her 150 year old Northwest timber felling saw. She oil painted a 20 Oxen lumber train on a skid road. Circa 1860's. Awesome! Sadly, She can't grip her brushes as of late, but she wants to do this diorama with me. Cool, win, win.

    @@BoonesSlotCarGarage Hi Boone, Thanks for your reply. My layout isn't going to change (although has slightly changed since video recorded) as my plastic barriers have aged badly due to track being in a conservatory. To change the track layout would require removing the barriers, and that will break them and I am unable to replace them. Although I would love to add better scenery, it would be well beyond my skill level, due to high levels of medication and mental disabilities. I really appreciate your videos and may take you up on your offer of assistance at a later time. 🤞🏻SCX & Ninco barriers come back in stock. Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Hello, that’s a very unique and impressive slot car track. Love how the track snakes around like the real thing. I brought one of my grandsons a SCX track with motorcycles maybe 10 years ago. The bikes just didn’t wanna stay in the track well and he quickly lost interest. About a year ago I was talking to a friend at a model car club meeting and he told me Hobbytown had some 1:43 scale cars at a reasonable price so I bought a couple and some more track on eBay. I built some benchwork ( my main hobby is model railroading and LEGO’s) with 30 X 96 slot track below and a 32 X 64 n scale train track above. The great grandsons at three to five years old learned quickly how to reasonable speed race and they love it. Thus we keep the slot car hobby alive. Thanks for sharing your stunning layout, Cary

BTW, the Riverside Tower brought back many great memories for me. I’ve lived in the Inland Empire (SoCal) since 1967. Been to many different racing events at RIR including two cross country invitationals when I was in high school. Obviously the place was more than an auto raceway. I was heart broken when it was demolished. 😔

    @@BoonesSlotCarGarage … In the fall of 1975, I went to UCR as an undergrad student/athlete and remained in that area for the next 20 years. It was always obvious when NASCAR was in town. The hotels/motels parking lots along University Ave. would be filled with support vehicles and the sound of rumbling motors would echo through the Box Springs Mountain range. A lot of people would get annoyed with the commotion and noise, but it always warmed my heart. 😎🤙

    Hey Boone, I watched you doing the cobblestone and I have a suggestion for future effects. Take some copper wire the size you want for your gaps, shape it into sections of different cut shapes into a flat pattern about 3 x 3 or so and attaching to the end of your electric solder iron so it looks like a branding iron. As your heat from the tip expands into the wire and gets to the temp you want them press it into the styrene. Presto blocks of cobblestone! 👍🇨🇦

    Thanks PD , my garage is not heated as well , but it is attached to the house. If you have a spare room in your home , that would be the ideal place for your track . But if the garage is dry and doesn’t get below freezing it would be ok as well....

  • @pdtech4524

    @@BoonesSlotCarGarage I think the spare room might be my only option, my garage is concrete sectional construction, separate from our house, it's 'dry' in terms of the rain doesn't get in but here in the very damp UK the air has a lot of moisture especially through winter, so it wouldn't be suitable for the long term care of the metal parts of the track etc Your pulley idea has got me thinking I could use something similar to lower the track table down from the side of the wall, so it 'folds' away when not in use but obviously everything would have to be fixed down and attached to the table otherwise it would all just slide off!! I currently just put my track down temporarily in my living room which is around 26ft long and put it under obstacles such as tables and other furniture but with my dog Max jumping all over it and my wife moaning at me to put it away, it's not ideal lol 🤔😁😊😎👍

    Thanks for the quick reply. To help others perhaps trying the same thing, as I have not yet made the purchase until I fully understand the issues, I have to ask that if the cars are going the opposite direction, they'll pass the lane "X" and then pass the LED sensor, so a) they're past the "X" and b) no point in pushing the LC button for that LC section, but perhaps the next one intended for that direction of racing. My hope is that by not triggering, or despite triggering the next one, the first one (facing the other direction) either won't trigger or will a tailgating car get messed up? Thanks so much.

  • @BoonesSlotCarGarage

    @BoonesSlotCarGarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    The track has a open merging intersection once the car switches lanes. If you run a car the opposite direction, the blade comes in contact with the intersection of the merging tracks and stops the car . When the lane change track is ran the correct way, the lane change switch moves a blade that changes the car to a different lane. That blade also helps to direct the car to the correct lane and protects the blade from coming into contact with the intersecting tracks. That’s one issue.... the second is the track can only change lanes in one direction, do to the way the rails are designed and the LED sensor needs to be activated as your car approaches the track.... I have ran my track in reverse, but it can only be done in analog, and I have to insert a guide. For the lane change track to protect the guides on the cars so they do not come in contact with the intersecting track rails
