A Literalist Reaction to Robin Trower - Too Rolling Stoned

Dave (the 36-year-old with the impressive beard) was raised almost completely sheltered from pop culture by his strict military family. He was homeschooled his entire life until he entered college. He legitimately has very little knowledge of music and bands from before 2000.
John (the guy in disguise) has been a MUSIC LOVER since he was born in the 1960's. Problem is, he rarely knows or fully grasps the lyrics. Dave, on the other hand, has never heard or rarely overheard the music John chooses to play for him, but tends to take lyrics literally, sometimes to unexpected ends.
John remains in the dark both as a wry play on the situation but also because of legal issues causing his attorney to recommend maintaining a low profile.
We did not write nor do we own the Copyright for the song used in this Educational Video. This is a real, honest reaction to a song Dave have never consciously heard before and/or listened to with intent. Any "facts" offered by John "Doh" are based more on his remembrances than on any actual research. Please feel free to correct him. He loves it.

No - James Dewar who is the bass player is also a the vocalist not Robin Trower. That whole album is worth checking out IMHO. Check out Day of the Eagle or Little Bit of Sympathy for a different take

Robin Trower belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall . Heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix actually toured with him 2x in Europe. Known as the guitarist of Procul Harem and left early 70's to pursue his own fame. His heavy sound comes from his heavy gauge strings and a pick up at the neck. Known as the king of the strat and he is the best string bender at the time. I saw him 5x in Detroit and he sold out Cobo Hall all 5. This whole album is great

This album sold nearly 3 million copies worldwide with no singles. He was labelled the ''White Hendrix'' which he hated but also acknowledged Jimi's influences. Only one Jimi only one Robin. Robin's playing is second to none. SRV isn't in my top 5 ever as his playing never made me cry. When Robert Fripp of King Crimson and collaborator with Brian Eno was asked about why he regarded Robin as the best (he took lessons from Robin) is that every note matters. His first three albums are corkers and shows his GREATNESS in writing and playing songs and even any covers are masterful.

Bridge of Sighs is an amazing album. There are so many great tracks which Too Rolling Stoned is one. Well worth the money.

Trower was a big fan of Hendrix. He wrote a song on the first album called “Daydream, which is often mistitled Spellbound, that was written as a tribute to Hendrix. It’s very much in the style of”The Wind Cries Mary”. It’s an extremely beautiful song. Also check out another track from a later album, a great, as it turns out coincidentally, song for Christmas, the very beautiful, “Bluebird”.

W'out watching first, I'll give my literal interpretation of this song. I don't mind rolling stoned, but after a while, I get tired of rolling stoned and thusly become TOO ROLLING STONED. Now I'll watch.

The bass player is singing. I play bass. That line is repetitive but it is not easy to play slow and in the pocket

Robin took heat for sounding/acting too much like Hendrix (who passed in 1970). But his live stuff is fire - I especially like Daydream (very aptly named). I recall an interview with Stevie Ray where he reminensed about his first Wah-Wah and Jimmy (his bro) said degroratorly, you sound like effing Robin Trower. Lol

Omg, why did I watch. You just insulted one of the greatest artists known to ROCKHEADS. This is a classic jam AND that you two do not realize this just emphasizes why older dudes despise the arrogance of today's "music lovers." I mean, it's freakin ROBIN TROWER!!! What is better than this now? SRV would slap John for his insulting remarks. Now, I gotta delve deep into your vids and see what other legends you guys DISSED. SIMPLE BASS LINE!!
