My wife and I are working on her law school debt right now. $250,000 paid off in 23 months. $89,000 more to go. We are busting our butts! IT IS HARD. But you can do this!

I’m happy you. Men usually never seem to have a problem shouldering these responsibilities for the sake of our spouse. It’s unfortunate you rarely hear this happening the other way around lol.

I did the exact same thing throughout and after pharmacy school. I started off my student loan journey at $200,000. Definitely should have started paying it off way earlier than I did, but like you said at least I started my journey. I am down to $70,000. Hopefully I will be done by end of 2022.

That's why I'm starting out at a community college before transfering into UCLA or Davis. Four years of the college experience grows old, and living at home along with CC prices save a fortine. At my CC, a unit costs $50, and so I pay only $150-$200 for a 3 to 4 unit class.

Davis is expensive to live at. Many times community college is enough. What ever career you decide to pursue seek advice from people already in that field. Theyll save you bunch of money and time.

I love tip 5 and 6. I think I may need to increase the amount of my check going into the student loan account. Paying twice a month will also help me stop spending the money on something less important.

Yes, if you want you can slowly increase the amount of your check allocation over a 6 week period so you don't feel it all at once 💛

How is this not a scam? Like the price of tuition will just keep rising if people keep buying them and since the government is backing the student loans everyone will get them, so if 300,000 isn't a scam yet than what if the price after 5 years is 600,000? Is it a scam than? What about if it is 1,000,000 after 10 years - is it a scam than? Like I say that it has been a scam for a long time now.
Thanks for the tips. I plan to adopt your visual strategy by posting my list of loans up on my refrigerator. I have it all written down in my notebook but it would be a great motivation factor. Just reminding myself of my why. I owe $192,000. All student loans from my grad program. I plan to pay it off by 2022. I make a decent salary and have two other streams of income. So I plan to work hard until it is paid off. It's going to suck knowing how much money I could be living my best life with. But this is a temporary sacrifice. The reward will be sweet!

Girllll 😩 We can do it! Have you thought about refinancing? Definitely going to refinance mine once the zero percent mandated interest is up!
@TheBohodiva
3 жыл бұрын
Wine n' Chill my financial advisor has recommended it. I’m hesitant though because if I’d refinanced earlier I wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of this zero interest because you no longer qualify for any of the government assisted repayment options. So I’m still just thinking about it. In the long run it makes sense.
I could use this set of tips since I'm set possibly on going to plan to go to school for a bachelor's of science in nursing should I need to take out student loan. Thank you! P.S. on the other hand, I did contemplate being a doc in Emergency medicine if I instead go to med school. We'll see. But may have to take out loans and im nervous.
Do you mind saying what law school you went to?

Which law school did you go to? If you don’t mind me asking, of course.
I did a lot of the same stuff that you talk about here while paying off a debt and can attest that it's the simplest way forward. I think the most important thing is you cannot let yourself think about it because yes you CAN find other uses for the money. you can ALWAYS find other uses for the money. think about it for even a second and you'll find at least a dozen other ways to spend that money! so you have to decide ahead of time what your monthly payment will be and every single month, the second the deposit hits, turn the brain off and make the payment and then log off and sulk as long and hard as you please. whine, kick rocks, take a shot, you sure do feel bad but you made your payment and that's what matters. I like the "pay every paycheck" idea too...when you have one "rich" paycheck a month, it makes the "poor" paycheck worse. lol. but then again some people may need to just rip the whole bandaid off at once so they only have to be so irritatingly responsible once a month.
Thanks! These were great tips, this felt like a student loan therapy session. Like my mom also said, sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying.... Anyways, student loans = $40k , credit cards $25k... 🤦🏾♀️. I’m working on a plan.

I never understood the advice to pay on the loans while you're in school. I'm literally taking out the loans because I can't afford school? There is no extra money to be paying on them!

I'm on track for PSLF for my law school loans and am so close I can smell it. I'm hoping the government doesn't renigg. Womp womp. If they don't forgive it after the 120th payment, my backup plan is the lottery! 😉
