I love A-ha songs in live concerts. Morten's voice it's so strong, specially in the high notes. They toured in Brazil last month, with all sold out concerts. They had a lot of fans in South America, like Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. They will release a new album in October named "True North", the first single is already out, it's" I'm in. It's a beautiful and emotional song...

This is without a doubt one of the best Bond theme songs overall alongside A View To A Kill - getting A-ha doing their own twist on the "Bond sound" and nailed it is what made the movie actually quite special alongside Timothy Dalton who was surely underrated as a Bond tbh

I couldn't agree more with everything you said! Dereck, you need to do A View to A Kill (Duran Duran) next! My other fave Bond theme is License to Kill by Gladys Knight, she sings her heart out

I’m pretty sure this made it into Casey Kasem’s American Top 40” on the Billboard pop charts because pretty much every Bond theme did. A-ha is the best band in the world and it always peeved me that macho America in the 80s was too euro-phobic to handle them. Their first three albums helped me survive high school and they have never disappointed me.

I don't think so. The band struggled to work with John Barry and had a big row with him. I think Barry pressured the Bond producers to use a different song in the US market.

Duran Duran did a view to a kill for Roger Moore's last outing as James bond.then a-ha did the living daylights for Timothy Dalton's first outing as James bond. It was really cool to have bands that I listened to and were in the charts doing bond themes.before that it was Shirley bassy,Tom Jones,Sheena Easton,Matt Monro,Dean Martin. I like all the old bond themes.

Totally agree on doing the official video first or at least the audio track, and then see live version. 👍👍 Barry the producer, famous for his bond-productions was not impressed that these young guys from Norway didn't want to jump at his demands and fall into the typical bond'esc sound. Soooo, this "quarrel" behind the scenes might have done something about the song not reaching as high as antisipated. There is one version on the A-ha album, and the official Bond-version is a little bit different. ANyways, imo one of the best Bond-songs, and YES, as a Norwegian, I am highly biast 🤩🤩

@@richardhughes9255 In my opinion the Bond theme could have been so fair that they openly admitted that a-ha created the music, and that it was a formality for John Barry to be named as a co-creater of the music. He probably is for the music that was used in the movie, but it is not the version that people today praise, it is a-has version, the one on the album. I doubt it's about the money for a-ha, more about the moral right to one's own creation. The song was more or less finished when it became relevant as a Bond song, as it fit well with just that. To be honest, a-ha did not need the Bond advertisement. They stood firmly on their own two feet. I guess John Barry likes to bask in the glory.

This is from their hometown live show that was supposed to be the final show and the book closed and no more a-ha. This was Ending On A High Note…… but NO ….. they got so many requests to carry on, they were okay with it and Cast In Steel was released as a new album…… then tour after tour and they are still going although they had to cancel a few gigs including the Birmingham one I was sooooo looking forward to ……. Almost 3 years since I bought my ticket… they are a fantastic live band and in the studio too …. I look forward to getting to see them in the flesh again soon …. Your version must be a poorly uploaded one as this was professionally and officially released by the band. Can’t wait for the new chapter and hopefully a live album for the Hunting High & Low Orchestral Anniversary tour. Amazing !!!!!!

Some backstage story. Duran Duran wrote and sang the theme song for the previous Bond film, 'a view to a kill', which hit No1, the only Bond song to do so. The Bond actor was changing, and the producers wanted Duran Duran to write and sing the song for the next Bond movie and that is what they had told them, that they wanted Duran Duran and their experience and fan base in order to support the new Bond actor. However, by the time the new movie started filming, Duran Duran were not that popular anymore, while A-ha were considered to be the new boy group which would rule the music world. So instead, the Bond producers asked A-ha to write the song for the Bond movie 'the living daylights'. Duran Duran never liked that, and they actually accused A-ha of plagiarising their own song 'A view to a kill', in order to write their 'living daylights' song. I don't know lots about music, to my ears I don't hear any similarities between the two songs, anyone who knows better please share :)

Normally I don't translate interviews in Norwegian into English because it easily can become very time consuming. In this particular case I have done, since the subject is quite interesting considering who actually created "The Living Daylights". I guess most fans know the story, but anyways. Here it is, starts at 4.24 in the video. Journalist: Have you built this up yourself? Paul: We tried to find a suitable demo studio, and it was pretty crappy stuff, so we decided this was the best way. Morten: You have far greater freedom when you have it this way, so… Journalist: So this is actually where you sit and work on the music for the new LP? Morten: Yeah Magne: Yes, here we sit, and here we can make different small stanzas (demonstrates the equipment) Journalist: Was this where you made the James Bond demo? Morten: No, it wasn’t. It's been a while since it... (looking at Paul and Magne) - It came out during the tour, didn’t it? Journalist: I know this James Bond case was a little difficult for you. Pål: Yes, we have kind of got the reputation now for being so difficult to work with, but we do not like people who steal the tape and behave like that, so.... Morten: And, of course, the Broccoli people are powerful, that is, and they use it without further ado. What I think is worst is how they in a way have stolen credits for the music. Magne: What happened was that we didn’t make a big deal out of James Bond and then they were not very interested in a correct image of us. (A bit hard to hear all he said, but I do think this is at least partly correct) Journalist: Is your feeling in connection with this so bad that you should not... Morten: No, my goodness, the video is Steve Barrons, so there is nothing bad with it, hehe Magne: But the video is better than the movie! ... but I have not seen the movie, so I shouldn’t... (holds his hand over his mouth and laughs) kzread.info/dash/bejne/oI1sxpmHYLDMh9Y.html

There are rumors that these conflicts actually were the main reason why America turned their back to a-ha. For instance when they got the world record for paying audience at Rock in Rio in -91 with 198 000 paying audience, MTV didn't mention them with one word. None of the other world artists had more than 60 000.

When Magne says "we didn’t make a big deal out of James Bond", from my understanding he means that they didn't show up for the film premiere, because they were busy touring in Japan - something they had announced in advance. So they prioritize the fans in Japan before the film premiere. It was not very well received.
