To be honest, almost every time I hear one of their songs I think "this is one of my favourites" and then I hear another one and I feel the same. Fact is that most of their songs are so great that they are all my favourites. Check out Driftwood when you have time. That's another gem from the album Scoundel days.

My favorite A-ha song. Morten's voice is off the roof there. I love it ! And the music is very beautiful too, so powerful, so amazing. ;) It should have been a single. But on the other hand the fact that it wasn't released as a single make it a gem, only real fans know. Personally I love it's length. I love every second of it.

You're right! This one should have been a single. I'm a real great fan of this band, I'm 52 years old and I began to listen to A-ha when I was 15. Immediately I loved the style, the voice, ewerything about them. This song is one of my favorite with "Manhattan skyline". I apologize if my English is not well, I'm French...

It's a crime that this amazing song (the best on the album) wasn't released as a single! Imagine what it could have done for the bands image compared to Touchy and You're The One. Oh and I absolutely LOVE the long outro - so many fine details!

It was considered to be released as a single, the "alternative version" was edited in order to act as a "radio edit" (released as a bonus a only a couple of years ago). The company went for another song back in the 80s ..I think they chose "Touchy!" instead.

This song is so deep. You found the right word, Dereck. Anyone who has lost one or both of their beloved parents knows the feeling of emptiness, of losing their roots, of drifting, out of control. A feeling that comes even if you have had them for a long time in your life. As always, A-ha manages to capture the emotions. Regarding the title, I agree about the blue water and green growth, but there is a double meaning. Blue also contains a feeling of sadness, as in blues.

What a pleasant surprise for me to find that in 2022 people are still talking about one of the most incredible a-ha songs ever. Thanks for the review. Years ago I found an extended version of this song and it was fantastic. As for your comment that the song could have been shorter, I think the reason is that the song ending is long is because it represents the young man moving on in life.

This is one of my favorite a-ha songs, and the lyrics are indeed very deep talking about life and family. I even have a tattoo inspired on this song, I got it in 2020, after all the horrible things we were experiencing because of the pandemic, I tried to hold myself on to the good things that I still had, I started noticing "greens" coming out of the sad things (the "blues") that were happening in the world at the time.

The cover of the album Stay on these roads, where it originated from is used as the cover when you play this song. The cover were made with the three guys centered in the middle and various blurred people surrounding them in the background. In the cover photo for the single You Are The One the same cover photo session is used but this time the photo is in color and Morten has a red parrot on his left shoulder. You can more clearly see the people in the background in that particular picture. I would recommend you look it up, it is a nice selection of photos. I totally agree with you on the ending on the track, and as a funny anecdote I do remember quite clearly that the original reviewer in the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten had the same remark. He also meant the song was too long and should have been cut down to around 5 minutes. The meaning Out of blue comes green refers to that when you are sad (blue), sooner or later you will view the world differently and more positive (green).
