FINALLY!I was still in my teens when this divine ballad came out.I still remember when the video was in the making some music mags were reporting about how Morten was going to transform into an eagle,a shark and a lion. When the clip came out we got goosebumps! Most of us had already bought their fantastic multi-platinum debut album and loved this. The single version was slightly different with more strings added sounding really epic.Pal-a genius lyricist too- wrote those wonderful deep loving words of poetry, for his girlfriend. And that was a reflection of his inner world and all of his desperate feeling at the time.Morten is a Nordic God while singing this.Live performances are also thrilling to this, with the audience sing-a-long with him after the end. It's an Hymn.

But there are so many great songs on it for me (You Are The One, Touchy, Stay On These Roads, The Living Daylights) and I was really blown away by Out Of The Blue Comes Green and some synths here and there that I didn't care that much. For me the 4th album was the let-down. They broke the synth formula with more guitars and it almost break them. After Move To Memphis and the best of, I really thought they would never come back from this. So glad I was wrong. :)

Dereck, I really think you need to react to another track from the same album titled “Love Is Reason” which I think will have you not only tossing one banana but a bunch of them. Hope you get to that track, it will be fun to see that clip of the banana dance which I feel confident you’ll queue up for that track. 80s classic 🎹

Great reaction to a great song, Dereck! This ballad has been played in concert all these years, and every time the audience are invited to sing along in the chorus. The title 'Hunting high and low" is an example of Paul drawing inspiration from literature. This time from the Norwegian classic, the children's book Teskjekjerringa (Mrs. Pepperpot in the English translation of the story) which is about the wife who suddenly becomes as small as a teaspoon, over and over again. The husband was "searching high and low" to find his wife. Paul turned this into "hunting high and low" in the love song he wrote for his girlfriend from across the Atlantic.

Fairly advanced for musicvideos. The basic idea behind the video is that love brings a man back in various forms to be near the woman he loves.

Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on A-ha. For me, this song (which is a ballad) is my FAVORITE from this album! I ALWAYS said it! And this song I remember like it was YESTERDAY! I OFTEN saw the clip on TV6 channel when I was a child (which became M6 in March 1987), which also played non-stop with Sandra "Innocent Love" for the international songs I saw this year 1986 (the GOOD TIMES!), year of release of the single in a "remixed" version as indicated on the 45 RPM. This song "Hunting High And Low" was released on June 2, 1986 as the third single from their debut album of the same name, ranked no.4 for 2 non consecutive weeks in TOP 50. The clip itself will also have marked me. I think there is a wink or a reference to the American series MANIMAL (with Simon MacCorkindale) dating from 1983 but broadcast in France in summer 1985 on the third channel FR3 (the year of your birth! 😉 Then in 1988 on TF1, in 90's on several channels,...) which had success where we saw the main character also transform into an eagle or a black panther, for example! The video uses the same codes by adding a romance. This music video was directed by Steve Barron and it is the last video that closes this album. It uses the technique of "morphing" which at the time was taking its first steps. Moreover a complete report for the English TV show "Blue Peter" shows the making of and the use of morphing. Thanks for your great job our American dude. 👍🇫🇷

Here in the UK a-ha is very much thought of as a girls dreamy pop band for everyone in this country seems to think Take on Me was the only thing they did. I don’t care at all, not embarrassed in the slightest to say I’m a dude and I adore their first album start to finish. Living a Boy’s Adventure Tale is my favourite track for its fantasy tale, idyllic pastoral vibes, but Hunting is easily Morten’s best vocal on the album. That’s what I love though about a-ha, their ability to create and conjure images of breathtaking sweeping vistas in their music, especially this first album. Should be noted that this music video uses the single version of the song. The album version whilst still good is naff in comparison, produced by Tony Mansfield, it’s all synths and no grand orchestral sound. We have producer Alan Tarney to thank for bring in that orchestral tone for the single mix.

Haunting, stunning Masterpiece!!! Just Gorgeous, in every way, and Dereck, It's Pal (pronounced like English Paul, on guitar, AND the song's composer,) that is always singing most harmonies to Morten's Gorgeous voice! Paul has a magnificent harmonic blend to Mortens lead vocals! Wow!!! VERY occasionally, Morten did a harmonic layer as another voice, very occasionally, like I said, but MOST OF THE TIME< all harmonies are done by mainly Paul on guitar, and Mags (his nickname), on Keyboards.

This was one of my favorite albums growing up, and still is. "Scoundrel Days" is a close second. You should react to the title track. BTW Dereck how old are you? How did you come to discover all this great synth pop from the 80's?

This version was a remix to the album version (I think) & this is brilliant 👍 They made amazing music 🎶 Next one to review Derek should be “Touchy!” from 1988 👍

The back vocals are by Paul (a good singer himself), the author of almost all the songs of the first A-ha's albums.

Semirambling funfactoid: Back when this song was released, Norway had one - 1 - domestic TV channel: NRK (satellite TV from abroad was barely a thing in the country at the time). As a-ha became Norway's first global pop superstars with Take on Me, their subsequent videos from the Hunting High And Low album saw their first airings in Norway (in their entirety ) on NRK's evening news. NRK wasn't running anything that resembled a proper pop show, and a-ha's success was so far out and beyond the domestic Norwegian scope, so on the news their video releases went ... I always was an avid watcher of the news, but an a-ha video release always made them more interesting to watch.

In my opinion, perhaps the best pop ballad song from the 1980s And the music video itself, is in almost the same class as "Take On Me". Maybe better artistically

Timeless beautyfull song. Masterpiece. Thank you Dereck to spend time to this song. The lyrics are quite strange but the clip explanes: He is hunting all his life for women/love/attention/sex. He will never stay by one woman, he loves them all. All women still love him but they can not shear their lives with him because of his unfaithfullness.
