The cutting edges on the black Ram with Orange plow scrap down to bare pavement with ease! I know when I plow with my brother here in KC when we actually or will ever get any snow……….we don’t pile snow around the light poles in an island nor when just standing in a lot by themselves. He makes us get out and hand shovel around the pole! He says it’s better to get all of that snow cleared because when it melts it refreezes and has to be dealt with later so might as well clean it now…..I understand though with the amounts of snow you guys get up north!!

I’ve been plowing for 24 years for the county parks department they purchase plows and trucks in bulk so I’ve used many different plows and brands of trucks over the years from myer diamond blizzard boss fisher and western. Myers were by far the worst mechanically the pumps froze constantly I was to the point of changing fluids before every big storm and they would still freeze diamond had the same issues obviously because they used the same pumps as myers although diamond contractor grade plows were built much stronger. I do all the truck and plows maintenance and repairs for the parks as well. You are 100% correct about the life of western cutting edges. They don’t last. They wear out about 30-40% faster than the other brands I don’t think they use enough carbide in their steel. I highly recommend winter equipment cutting edges they are the best cutting edges on the market I think. And will turn a western from a zero to a hero. The cutting edges are expensive but you get what you pay for they outlast them all

Stan I've Had a western V plow since 2005 only replaced one cutting edge if you are wearing cutting edges out the plow isn't set up correctly on the truck when they installed the new plow they measure the frame to ground length and set it up to that measurement so the plow is level when in the scoop or Vee position my guess is that it wasn't set up correctly and there is to much pressure on the outer part of the edge when it is in the scoop or vee position

When I plowed on the highway dept. We would sandwich the cutting edges together. Steel cutting edge with a carbide to get more life out of it.i could wear out a single cutting edge on the f 550 scrapping subdivisions in two storms. The road agent figured it would save in salt by scraping more first. Now the dept. Is down to three employees because of labor shortage. Less scraping and straight salt not sand salt mix for faster results.

We just had our 3rd plowable snow storm of the year. I plow a dirt road and we had started mud season. I used the tractor with a rear mounted snowblower as a box plow for two reasons 1 the roads are to soft to run it with the snowblower going and 2 my plow trucks transmission went out.

I plow in upstate NY on tug hill, moving to cohasset this summer. Biggest disadvantage out there is no studs. I put 1500lbs in my truck box and 4 studded tires. I push drifts over 6ft, more then most loaders. It may not seem it but a good studded tire adds just enough extra grip to get out and push the heavy stuff.

I run a Fisher XV2 and just had to replace the original cutting edge for the first time after 3 seasons. Its also the same controller, and I still believe it’s one of the simplest controllers on the market today. One button for scoop, one button v mode, and two separate buttons for each independent wing. Then you just have your generic up down left and right. Simple.

I ran Meyer and Western in my plowing days. Of the two Western hands down. Now I will agree that the V blade cutting edges wear out super fast, I disagree with your complaints on the Western handheld controller. I found it easy to use and memories. I like the separate buttons for vee and scoop, where others you have to push in the middle for those features. But hey there is something for everybody right.

I got a new western mvp3 9' 6" in January of last year. Love the controller. As far as cutting edge wear I have approximately 80-100 hrs on it and have lost 3/4". The included factory edge is much thinner than I would have liked to see. It does a very good job of getting the lot clean. I would not hesitate to buy another. The extra foot is nice but not in the deep heavy stuff.

100000% agree with the controller hate.... I use both Boss 9.2 V and a Fisher/Western V. I HATE Fisher's double push to get the wings to move and the need to adjust each wing when you want to angle. Boss's layout is just superior in every possible way. I don't do as much plowing on asphalt, but there is most definitely more wear on the Fisher than the Boss after a couple seasons. I grew up with Fisher and I currently live about 45 minutes from their home base in Rockland , ME That said, I like Fisher's power in and out with the wings and I think their push bar/skid shoe design is stronger.

I mounted the controller to the door left of the steering wheel, so I can shift & steer with my right and run/steer the plow with my left hand. I can lift the plow as I'm going into the pile and stack it eight feet high. I can go to beat heck with that setup too! The boss cutting edges (hydrox boss calls em) seem to wear pretty decent. But it kinda depends on the year. NW Mn this year we've got a pretty good layer of ice & hard packed snow everywhere except the main highways, the States policy is clear dry roads.

If I had a plow I would take straight plow that can angle side to side. the more "parts" that a single plow is constructed from the more chances of failure and also down time plus upkeep. with a straight edge plow you only have to worry about the hydros that make it go up and down and side to side. but thats if I had a plow . Some people prefer the plows you have thats fine I prefer simple and straight forward plows .

Had the national guard in wishek nd to Linton nd for 30 days trying to open things up. We still had snow it the shelter belt on 4th of July of 97. Why is that Western controller so hard to use? Takes even a rookie a storm or maybe two to get used to it then it's like second nature. As far as the edges go, pretty sure thats a normal thing with any v blade. We still run a 9'6 Fisher and the dealer only puts 5/8" edges on them now and we're going on 2 seasons on a new edge, granted it doesn't do large lots but at this rate with the type of lots it does, this edge should last another 2 seasons. My brand new Western Wideout XL does a lot of small to medium lots and helps our backhoe at a large box store and it has a 5/8" cutting edge and it will go through 1 a season on average with normal snow falls. This is the year for salting here in NWPA, we're down about 50" from our normal snowfall but just salting is fine with me lol. I see another good storm headed you way this coming week.

@@Dirtmonkey That orange plow scrapes very well.
8:47 Stan knows how to have fun!
Hey Stan people in Northern Manitoba (the Canadian Province to the north of Minnesota) use to call it a 'Hudson's Bay Chinook' when those cold -50 windchills would blow off of Hudson Bay and freeze up the Prairie Provinces and the Northern States like Minnesota and North Dakota.
Finally getting some winter storms and Temps out here on the Eastern Front! Snow Fighters unite! ❄️ Fisher Plow, twin to Western, same issue with Xv2 cutting edge. It's soft steel and after I had to replace a few, I took a page from your book and ordered the full kit from WINTER EQUIPMENT!! 💪🏽 unreal how much better quality and lifespan on the Winter cutting edge. Winter equipment cutting edges are by far the longest lasting edges I’ve ever dealt with they’re incredible. Well worth the cost.

Awesome video glad i live where we dont get much snow thanks for the job you do for others
Coming up with names the weather channel hasn't come up with yet. Impressive.
Another great video BUT I was hoping to see that big bad Arctic truck pusher in action oh well hopefully it's in the pipeline of videos to come. And yes you know it's cold when your plows sqeaks like that just winging in and out

On a side note, I have only ever ran fisher blades. Love the control and can switch out motors in under 10 min. Used a friend's snowdog and a western this year. Didn't like controls compared to fisher.
The deep freeze was definitely felt here in the “high desert” part of Oregon, and heard the same noise under the tires. It sounded like really good ASMR.

Yup I love that sound!!
Simple.
@Dirtmonkey
Жыл бұрын
Simplicity is key 👌
I ran Meyer and Western in my plowing days. Of the two Western hands down. Now I will agree that the V blade cutting edges wear out super fast, I disagree with your complaints on the Western handheld controller. I found it easy to use and memories. I like the separate buttons for vee and scoop, where others you have to push in the middle for those features. But hey there is something for everybody right.
Western makes a small joystick

I got a new western mvp3 9' 6" in January of last year. Love the controller. As far as cutting edge wear I have approximately 80-100 hrs on it and have lost 3/4". The included factory edge is much thinner than I would have liked to see. It does a very good job of getting the lot clean. I would not hesitate to buy another. The extra foot is nice but not in the deep heavy stuff.
I’m jealous haven’t had any plowable snow on Long Island New York only thing we had was an inch that froze as soon as it hit the ground

I like my boss joystick pretty good, it's on an older boss 8'2" RT3 steel V plow.
It snowed here in Las Vegas. Roads were icy this morning. We have NO plows. I work for the city and tried using my street sweeper, it worked somewhat. It was 25 degrees this morning. I HATE cold.

So. Much. Snow. And it’s not over yet 😈
What’s really wild is here in alpine Wyoming we have been getting 1-15 inches every 2-3 days. I feel like I’ve been up for 6 months in a row plowing and never being caught up. It’s been a crazy snow year here in Wyoming. I-80 I shut down with 10-15 foot snow drifts. Crazy 😮
Fisher is same thing as western and I have the issue with my cutting edges also on my fisher xv2 , my buddy has a boss , and I like there cutting edge design a lot better it wraps around outside
I had to turn the ac on today it was nice warm day for mowing

Only thing I’d chage about that orange plow on ur ram 2500 is the the hight of the plow , every time u push in to a pile of snow it over flows and covers the whole front of the truck up , if it would a bit taller like 1 or 2 more feet would be a perfect plow
The whole time you guys are between those vehicles Alex truck looks to be in reverse

I will take snow anytime. Try a winter in North Dakota and you will know what cold is all about. Winter of 96 was the worst winter i have experienced in 58 years. Killed over 100k cows in the Dakotas. Had 128 consecutive days of sub zero temperatures and snow to the top of the trees. Had the national guard in wishek nd to Linton nd for 30 days trying to open things up. We still had snow it the shelter belt on 4th of July of 97. Took coolers of snowballs to the lake that weekend for our first summer snowball fight. Was in Minnesota in 66 and 78 for both of those winter and they didn't compare to 96 in the Dakotas. Good luck where ever you are at moving snow. Still a month+ of winter

I wonder if anyone makes a carbide blade for those Westerns. The county I work for switched to carbide blades with a steel front sacrificial blade (2 blade total thickness) for all of our road plows. I went through atleast 2 seasons of plowing with my Everest plow with that set up. 28 miles per run and sometimes it can be 2-4 runs plus per storm.
You commented on the drifts and how it was blown back in. In Wyoming, we call that normal. Have you seen the snow from this past week? Drifts that are unreal.

I hope Alex didn’t cry like he did in middle school. Man oh man. I remember he lost a basketball game and our team watch him cry cry cry 😞
You should try wiggling the blade left and right as you try to back out of that pile 9 out 10 times it will push you out of the pile
