I had never built anything before and never even picked up a skill saw before this year (although I did do electrical work so was comfortable with tools). If I can do it anyone can trust me😊 Start with a small project and build your confidence. It also took me years to start process so don’t worry it will happen when it’s supposed to🙂 Just break it down into manageable pieces and find KZread videos on each part of process. Starting with foundation find a video how to level and then how to square it etc etc. I was very unsure of myself but there are so many cool people out there that will help you make it happen. You got it man😎 Get in touch when you turn your dream a reality. would love to see it😄

    I watched this because I've been really interested in A-frames, but most people seem to favour them in cold climates, often using the loft area to sleep so heat gathers there. I'm in a hot country and wondered how these turn out in hot places, like a desert. Surely the triangular shape with huge metal exterior and a transparent side all makes for a total oven inside? Or does the open side coupled with some insulation actually land up making for a great shelter from the heat? Or is this just something you'd never spend much time in during the heat of the day, then use the shape to your advantage for cold nights? Will be sure to watch some more of your videos to get more sense of A-frames in a climate more like mine than sweden and far north america etc :D

    This would be an amazing choice by a river😍😍😍 Thank you so much! If you check description you will see a link to the plans I used. It was designed by a cool dude named Deek and his channel is relaxshacksdotcom. It’s not a how to build more like a blueprint and you can kind of tweak it how you want (for instance I doubled the size for livability). I am working on an outhouse that I did design myself will be putting that video up once I’m done it’s going smooth…so far😆 cheers

    I really appreciate the kind words 🙏 I used the blueprints from @relaxshacksdotcom for the “Tranforming A Frame Cabin that are in his site for $30. I also recommend watching the channel @girlinthewoods who also built one. That was for sure my inspiration I fell in love with it when I saw that video. The only difference is I doubled the size so basically built two next to each other🙂

  • @kristibell422
    @kristibell422 Жыл бұрын

    So you doubled the length of Deek's correct? You did an amazing job. I did some math on the triangles (just got the plans tonight) but you might be able to confirm for me. Is the width of the loft right around 4 ft? Or is it smaller than that due to framing? In your video it looks really narrow when you climbed up but maybe you went a little higher than his plans. Just thought I would check before we embark on ours!! Looking to put this on my treehouse platform that is already ready to go, but only the 8x10 version. :)

  • @desertsolidude

    @desertsolidude

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you so much!!! The top of the loft platform is 80” from the floor. Loft joists are 6’4” from floor so even a tall person doesn’t have to duck🙂 width of platform is roughly 45”. It’s a decent platform and enough headroom for sitting up. I’m not sure what plans were I just did what worked for me. If doing 8x10 one consideration for loft height is the swing wall as my loft is a foot or two lower than top of that door. But yeah I simply just built two and stuck em together lol. Thanks for watching good luck with the build!!!

    I love the colors you chose for it 😍. May I ask what desert this is in? I'm thinking of building in NV not too far from Death Valley, but I'm worried an A Frame & metal roofing will get too hot. AFs are usually in the Sierra mountains where I currently live, so snow slides off. I'm a beginner though!

  • @desertsolidude

    @desertsolidude

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you!!! It’s Sonoran Desert/Southern Arizona. I was worried about roof and design too but surprisingly it seems the metal roof reflects the sun pretty well and there is maybe an inch or two gap from metal and plywood walls and it seems like a good little buffer zone. Before I put panels on it was super hot with just plywood and the metal seemed to cool it down. But yeah..not saying it’s the best option for desert but so far hasn’t been any problems. I wanted the roof style for rainwater collecting and solar panels eventually too. Thanks for watching!

  • @desertsolidude

    @@CADreemz Not negative at all it’s a great question🙂 I didn’t use any insulation on this build. When I did a van conversion I spent a lot on insulation and it didn’t seem to help much I was still very much in a hot metal box so I decided to just see how it went without😂 One thing I did was so make sure the clear wall was facing north so that side never gets any direct sunlight. If it did I feel it would very much be a greenhouse🤣

    No need for insulation?

  • @desertsolidude

    @desertsolidude

    Жыл бұрын

    Good question Dan! I chose not to insulate for a few reasons. Mainly cost & how I intended to use the cabin in only the cooler months. In summer I either plan on traveling or building a cabin made of cob that I think would stay a lot cooler. Felt no matter how well I insulated living would still be unbearable. With the giant clear Tuftex swing wall I felt like they would counter act any benefits of insulating. It’s neat and I love it for the light I get during day but not very good for temperature extremes and practicality. I figured I could always add it later on if I needed to but so far it doesn’t seem necessary. I also like the aesthetics of the wood walls & studs on inside for shelves. I did actually intend on insulating the floors with rigid foam boards but forgot😂 But yeah that’s just me I’m sure insulating would be beneficial in most circumstances. Thanks for the question🙂

    I have not seen that! I tried searching but could not find it. This particular a frame was designed by relaxshacksdotcom I used their blueprints🙂

    I hear what you are saying. This is my first time building anything I thought castle blocks were sufficient as it’s what Ive seen sheds built on. What would you recommend doing? The soil here is caliche and very hard but would like to do better next time. Thanks
