TOUR MY TINY A FRAME CABIN | BUILT IN ONLY 7 DAYS

Welcome to my Tiny A Frame Cabin near the Twin Cities of Minnesota! I built this little cabin and campsite within days of moving back to my home state with my wife from Los Angeles, California. It was created to be a getaway into nature while transitioning to our new life in the Midwest. The cabin is a variation of Derek Diedricksen's Transforming A-Frame Cabin, with the transforming wall being left out, and a solid wall with a wood stove being substituted in. This was my first build ever and a great confidence boost that's led to additional builds like the Travel Cabin. The structure and exterior of the cabin took only 7 days to build! I hope you enjoy the tour of our little slice of paradise.

This is the second video of yours I have watched. The first one was of your super tiny cabin that you tow behind your vehicle. You are amazingly innovative and clever, but I just have to ask, is there a reason you make things so ultra tiny? I'm a small senior female, and I would definitely want to shower inside. I'm very much afraid I would need a refrigerator-freezer. Perhaps you could make a very small cabin that could incorporate those two things? I really like the A-frame. It keeps you from having to get leaves off of the roof.

Thanks for watching both videos! You know, I think at first I went ultra tiny out of budget and practicality sake…meaning, I didn’t know if I could build anything bigger lol! I totally hear you. I think my next build will be a bit larger and have more features like that. Thanks for the comments and feedback!!

I love that you took to your dreams and got it done. So many quip about what they dream of doing, but never actually do anything. Paralyzed by fear, they don't try. There's a saying among quilters: "Finished is better than perfect!" Of course, with any build, safety and planning is paramount to a successful project. But after the safety & planning concerns are addressed, what matters most is that you make the build yours. It shouldn't matter so much about being perfect. What truly matters is that you try. One learns so much simply from trying. The reward is yours for having done so. Kudos to you both for building your gorgeous cabin life!

Beautiful cabin and land. Over time you will forget all your, learning experiences in the cabin. I would not rip the sheeting down and redo it. We built a shed with a loft on some camping lots in eastern Kansas. It is bigger and on pier and beam foundation but 25 years later and it is still my happy place. Our children have great memories of the cabin. They are grown now. Land is a finite resource and wild land is shrinking at an alarming rate. In joy and be good stewards of your small property. Thank you for allowing us a look at what you have built.

Colin, I'm wondering what state do you live in. Here in Minnesota that set up of three houses is only practical in the warm months. Winter not so much. Since it can get to -20sF/-28.8889 if not lower. And there is the chance for windchills being below -35 F/-37.7778 C. Even though the average is closer to 0 F/-17.7778 C for temps. I would not have the third one the bedroom. Due to how long it could take to heat it up in the wintertime in order to make it comfortable to sleep in. I would suggest it be a sauna instead.

@@colinstace1758 I've lived in Minnesota my entire life. What is worse for weather than the eastern side of Minnesota is the western side as well as the Dakotas. Used to go to my parents' hometown in North Dakota for Christmas. I tend to joke about that a 5 mph wind is a blizzard wind. Good reason why. That area is flatter than a table top in most of that area. As for me, I prefer the eastern side of Minnesota. Not only is it got hills, it got trees to break the wind to a point.

If you pile rocks and Bricks all around at stove as the bricks heat up and the stove goes out. It will release the heat back into the room and make it more stable for you. Look up Russian fireplace. Also for better fire protection instead of your carbon felt place a piece of sheet metal leaving an air gap between the wood and the sheet metal. This is usually 1 in or more but extremely effective.

It was the same dimensions as your cabin because Dad wanted to be able to use it as a storage shed when I outgrew wanting a playhouse. It had a dutch door in one end and a storm window in the other end. I LOVED it and it was the envy of every little girl in the neighborhood! The long handled wood splitting tool you have outside the cabin is a maul rather than an ax. Axes are designed for cutting, mauls are much larger, heavier with a longer handle which are designed for splitting. Just letting you know in case you need to buy one at some point.
