“A Dysfunctional and Destructive Force:” Adam Kinzinger on Today’s GOP | Amanpour and Company

The Republican Party continues to be plagued by division. The Senate GOP is still split over the question of a tie-in between aid for Israel and funding for Ukraine. Former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger knows this dysfunction all too well. His new memoir "Renegade" details his service on the January 6 House Select Committee as an outcast in his own party. He joins the show to discuss.

I trust Rep. Kinzinger because his service on the Jan 6 Committee cost him his seat and put him in danger. Civics used to be a mandatory class on Public School Curricula. Then, TeaParty- Repiblican poison infiltrated school boards and leadership positions. Education , private communication( postal service), liberal churches, and law enforcement are the first areas to be undermined by Authoritarian seekers. Think about it.

There's the guy Joe Biden should put forward to replace him before the next election. He's credible with the left and would take with him half the Republican voters which would shut out the crazies. I quite admire him, I rarely see such a backbone but more importantly the ability to sort out right versus wrong and admit when you are wrong.

We need more heroes like Adam Kinzinger. He describes so much wasted time our officials focused on Donald Trump. The seeking fame over service instead of seeking service without selfish recognition is sad.😢

That so many politicians consider their won position as a “job” versus a service is disgraceful. That perspective explains, in part, the self-serving behavior.

Adam should run for President. What America needs is a progressive Republican ie Conservative. Somebody who isn't a religious fanatic, and a wildly conservative socially but somebody who's just savvy in business and economics but wants to create more universal programs that help all people like healthcare and good public schooling.

Adam Kinzinger is a man I can respect. I also really like watching this interviewer (Michelle Martin, I believe) as she is completely professional, patient & polite and seeks to bring out all pertinent information. She also does not interupt the person she is interviewing which is a nice change these days.
