Once a rising star of the Republican Party, Adam Kinzinger became a traitor when he voted to impeach Donald Trump after the January 6 attacks on the Capitol. Now he shares a gripping firsthand account of the events that led to this moment, and the sacrifice required to do what is right.
Adam D. Kinzinger served in the United States House of Representatives from 2011 to 2023, representing Illinois’ Sixteenth Congressional District. During his tenure, he served on the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol, as well as the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Prior to being elected to Congress, Kinzinger served in the Air Force in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard and a Senior Political Commentator on CNN.
David Ono is the anchor for ABC7 Eyewitness News at 4pm and 6pm.David has produced multiple award winning documentaries, two of which have made their way to the Smithsonian Institution. He’s the creator of the multi-award winning series FACEism, about promoting a better understanding about inclusion in America. He’s also the creator of Defining Courage, a stage show about the legacy of the Nisei Soldier in World War. David has won 10 Edward R. Murrow awards, 31 Emmys, is the recipient of the Distinguished Journalist Award by the Society of Professional Journalists, the Lifetime Achievement award by the LA Press Club.
On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump incited a violent mob to storm the US Capitol in attempts to overturn the presidential election. It was a betrayal of our Constitution, and one of the darkest days in recent history. Yet to former congressman Adam Kinzinger it was also the culmination of a cultural and political rupture he’d long seen coming. This is a Republican I would gladly vote for. Why? Because he puts the rule of law i.e. our Constitution above party affiliation. That's the test of any genuine American patriot. A politician who speaks the truth…this is becoming rarer and rarer, even here in Canada. I am inspired by Adam and his bravery. Despite the terrible price he has paid, his integrity and honesty guides his conscience. We need him, and more like him, everywhere. Thank you for this riveting interview and the hope it brings.

I was very impressed with the J6 committee and those who served on it! Adam and Liz were awesome. I watch every minute. It opened my eyes, and I was amazed by the evidence that was presented. Gave me faith in our rule of law and knowing that we have resentatives who chose to uphold it. They have stood for the constitution but their politics are still far right Adam calls himself a compassionate conservative what does that say it says conservatives are not compassionate in their policies they follow the Reagan doctrine of give to the rich and cut social programs to pay for it the rich are the moochers Romney spoke about even though he meant the poor, if him or Liz came to power they would gladly cut entitlements and all other programs that help the poor, I worry when dems say they would vote for them it would be voting against our own interests. Our huge deficit comes from Reagan’s trickle down and trump took it to a whole new level raising it by eight trillion and those two voted for those tax breaks, I don’t tell people how to vote but I do say be careful what you wish for

I am a true blue Democrat, but if I know that a Democrat is just as crooked as Don the con and a compulsive liar, I will vote Adam Kinzinger in 2028 for President or Liz Cheney if I feel that a Democratic candidate is just as corrupt like don the conman. I’m 70 but periodically I’ve wondered how it would be having the president/vice president running together. I think Biden has done a great job, let’s be honest Kamala Harris is not well liked. I could see a Biden/Kinzinger ticket. I understand that would likely mean Adam would run in 2028. Then my thought would be he would pick a Democratic as VP. I wonder if we could get more done.

What people really need to do is pay attention to what the Republicans are doing and wise up to their tricks and vote accordingly.
If there were more members of congress and other political offices,like Adam and Liz,this country would be far better for Democracy and life than it is.I am a veteran,and they make me proud to have served the country I love and care about,and hope that we as Americans,do not let anyone destroy.
