I would fireabout 99% of them and our lame school board but they canceled up coming school board election saying they were running unopposed just before voting to close 5 schools.

Ohh....evaluation always sound great on paper, but in practice they are a joke and insulting at best. I remember when I got hired in one district, we were told that if you have top evals for 4 years in a row you will get a pay increase. I turned to one of my friends that was also a new hire (we had worked together for years before) and told him no one will ever get that. He thought I was being ridiculous. Fast forward 5 years, out of 140ish teachers, no one ever got it. For me, I loved (sarcasm) how 25% of my eval score was based on the outcome of my students on a test they took the year before they were ever in my class. Getting evaluated on student performance when you have 0% influence on that performance is just great, but the admin will tell you that it is a team effort and failure. I didn't hire the other teachers, you (the admin) did. Rant over.

Evaluations are a joke! The administrators tell you it’s a team effort, and that’s why you’re being evaluated on the kids from the prior year. Then they pick their favorites to share students from year to year (usually the kids that perform and test well are in those classes). They conveniently place the ones who don’t test well and need lots of support on the teachers who they don’t like because they question the favoritism and lack of professionalism. These teachers who get the needy students are usually teachers of color because “they can handle them”. I loved teaching, but hated the politics in education. I am retired after 34 years and a career of 100% positive evaluations. I’m hoping those in the field of education today will be left to EDUCATE not TEST UNNECESSARILY!! I’m off my soapbox.

I knew these were a joke when I was evaluated while doing a district required phonics taught and evaluated routine. The day before I had a district coach come in to watch me do the routine. She told me it was solid. The next day in walks the assistant principal who gave it a one saying that it did not meet the DOK requirements. Basically the routine was academically shallow. Same routine, same teacher had anyone heard of integrator discrepancy? Totally stupid evaluation system. It was rigged so that no one could get a passing score. I took all of them with a grain of salt after that.

I don’t like that teachers are evaluated on their performance based on their students scores on state tests. It makes even less sense when you are talking about students who are special needs students whose ability to learn is severely limited by their disabilities.
