I had a Belgian friend try and convince me that kut meant cute. The thing is I know what they are like and always check any words they tell me.

I could say something about Belgians here, but Dutch people already make fun of them too much. 😂 But double checking everything sounds like a good plan.

Danish also has a cancer swear. It’s “kraftedme” which comes from the sentence “Kræft æde mig” which means “Cancer eat me”.

In English and I think many other languages, swearing with diseases just make no sense at all. :)

FYI. Cancer. is a normal word here in The Hague. we don't see it as swearing per se. So if outsiders are in The Hague and they hear that word, it doesn't necessarily mean that someone is cursing. We also greet each other in that manner here, for example: Hey old cancer sufferer, how are you?

Ha ha I see a Betawi wooden chair outside your door again. I wonder why the Balinese people in Bali use non-Balinese chairs on their island. Jakarta is far from Bali.

If you were in Australia we'd call that "type" of person a bogan. You're welcome.

😂 the Dutch word for bogan is "tokkie" named after a family on a reality show. But it wasn't the word I was looking for. The Dutch word is "asociaal", but antisocial doesn't quite cover it, as a person who's asociaal is just extremely rude and inconsiderate. Oh well, maybe I should start preparing my videos instead of just randomly filling one on the spot 😅

@@CatsDutchClasses In German we say asozial too, sometimes it is shortened to asi, both vowels being short. They can be used as nouns referring to people (Asoziale (pl.), Asoziale(r) (sg.)), but also as an adjective. It basically means the same thing as in Dutch, but it is not only for social reasons that educated and well-mannered people try to avoid it (it is typically used to refer to lower class people with deviant behaviour who stereotypically live off the welfare system; it is most commonly used by working class or middle class Germans who want to set themselves off, put themselves on a higher rung on the social ladder). It is also avoided for historical reasons. The Nazis used to label people deemed "asozial" with a batch too. They were then often deported to disappear from the cityscapes.

Both are correct. D's can be easily omitted in Dutch. For example, lots of people say "goeiemorgen" instead of "goedemorgen"
