My wife and I went on a trip to the Netherlands last year from the US and instead of starting in Amsterdam we started in Utrecht, and it really set a high standard for the rest of the trip. I loved all the Dutch cities we visited but there was something really special about Utrecht, some obvious things but there was just a vibe to the city we both loved.

@@craneanderson2317 A bit obvious, but walk around the old medieval city. Start at the old Dom church, check out Janskerkhof (flower market), Mariaplaats. Have some pancakes at a restaurant down at the old canals. Have a drink in 'Café Olivier' (which is housed inside a hidden church!) But don't be afraid to leave the busy tourist/shopping routes and just start exploring random quiet small streets, for example walk to the old Watertower at the Lauwerstraat, or the Lepelenburg park, or the Botanical Garden. Almost all of Utrecht can be (pre)viewed with Google's Streetview by the way. There are some Utrecht specific museums, about Rietveld or Mondriaan or Miffy or the Railway museum, if you like that sort of thing. Utrecht is one of the best and safest cities for bicycles (check KZread for some videos), so you could rent some bikes and start pedaling. Check out the huuuuge bike parking underneath the train station, there's some new architecture there as well, near Jaarbeursplein. Or the other side of the station, near Moreelsepark with the weird building the Inktpot (it has a crashed flying saucer!) I always enjoyed biking up and down the Leidseweg, visit the windmill along the way, and "De Munt" (the old mint), up to a couple of old bridges like the JP Coen bridge. No tourists there, but very beautiful. You could even bike all the way to the "De Haar" castle.

I spent three nights in Utrecht with my wife and son back in April 2022 and absolutely loved it. Coming from Ireland where we have cars driving up every alleyway, it was great to see so many streets used by people on foot and on bikes. The city is very compact and friendly, even though it’s actually quite big. As they said in the video, gezeilig, and groot maar klein! Wonderful place, and if I dropped out of an alien ship onto planet Earth with no connections to anywhere, that’s where I would want to live. I will be encouraging my son to go to college there!

Als geboren en getogen Utrechter die al ruim twintig jaar weg is. Laatst weer eens teruggeweest. Positief vind ik zeker dat de binnenstad als het ware is uitgebreid en ook buiten de singels nu veel leuke eettentjes te vinden zijn. Ook hoog catharijne is veel mooier nu, naast dat de singels weer echte singels geworden zijn. Als nadeel gevoelsmatig is dat Utrecht alleen nog lijkt te bestaan als feeststad en geen woonstad meer is. Bijna alleen expats en studenten, met Nederlands kun je vaak al niet meer terecht. Dat andere Utrecht, met de volksbuurten en het plat Utrechtse accent hoort (hoorde) ook bij de stad. Juist die mix vond ik geweldig aan Utrecht.

Broodje Mario is absolutely the best thing! I am from Tasmania but I am so proud of Utrecht for representing itself so well on my travels. Standing out from the crowd is hard to do in a country of famous cities. From a tourism point of view a lot of cities could learn from Utrecht, great place for anyone to study Dutch even on the street

I've never been to Utrecht before.. but I've been to Breda and Rotterdam a lot.. because I have families there.. now I'm learning dutch to be able to speak with them with this Channel.. and I like it. I would say, Breda is a beautiful city.. The night life there was dope as well.. the clubs are across each other.. and the city center was so good. I hope u guys make a video there one day😊😊

Ik ben er geboren en getogen. Mooie binnenstad. Maar vroeger vond ik het leuker; gewoon een knusse provinciestad. Nu is het een grote stad geworden, veel gebouwen, veel drukker. andere sfeer.

Utrecht is beautiful. I worked there as a lightingengineer in museum Chaterijneconvent for a couple of months. The only thing, I found it to be a bit cramped, or claustrophopic, but that’s just me. I live in the Hague, and enjoy the amount of space here. But, Utrecht, definitly amazing. p.s daar ga ik weer, in het Engels reageren. Sorry😂

It’s the best city in the Netherlands, I wouldn't move to any other place even if I have to commute to work. It is a mix between a town because it is meant to be residential, not like Rotterdam which is too modern, but also has its business areas since it is in the Randstad 🏠🏡🏙️. And one thing more, it is VERY safe, there are not dangerous areas.

Ik ben twee keer naar Utrecht geweest. Ik denk dat de binnenstad heel gezellig is 😊 . Ik wil ernaartoe terug te komen. Maar mijn favorite steden zijn Den Haag, Amsterdam en Den Bosch.

Ik ben éen keer in Utrecht geweest en ook een keer in Hilversum. Ik vond ze allebei heel leuk, maar ik weet niet echt meer wat was nu Utrecht en wat was Hilversum 🙈

Ik ben één keer in Utrecht geweest en ik voelde me alsof ik in Amsterdam was. Er waren zo veel grachten en was heel gezellig.

@@mintymilkk Kanaleneiland is one of the lowest income, and highest crime areas of the city. It even was on the ''Vogelaarwijk'' list, which was a project to try to improve the 40 worst neighbourhoods of the country. So the neighbourhood isnt really something worth visiting, its mostly boring and bland social housing blocks. On the other side, the Netherlands is a safe place. Even if this is one of the worst neighbourhoods, its completely safe in daytime. During the night you might encounter some shady people in these kind of neighbourhoods, but most criminals dont target random civillians.
