🚩 The Reformation was a major movement within Western Christianity in 16th century Europe that posed a religious and political challenge to the Catholic Church and in particular to papal authority. It arose from what were perceived to be errors, abuses, and discrepancies by the Catholic Church. The Reformation split the Western Church into Protestantism and what is now the Roman Catholic Church.

    Hi History Marche, is the channel looking for an spanish-portuguese translator? I've seen basically all your videos but not all of them have subtitles in spanish or portuguese, not allowing many iberian speaking history fans to enjoy this excellent and interesting content. I'll ask is there is a place in History Marche's staff for an spanish and portuguese translator, i wouldn't mind a second job, much less if it is from one of my favorite youtube channels.

  • @tylerdurden3722

    @tylerdurden3722

    2 жыл бұрын

    It wasn't really a fall. It was a slow decline that started 200 years before Cicero. The Romans were perfectly aware of this decline. Events that happened during Cicero's time were all centered around two sides fighting over which of their prefered "solutions" is the best way to stop this decline. Cicero took the stance that it was a moral decline causing the decline. He was somewhat right, but he either ignored or completely missed the real core problems.

  • @tylerdurden3722

    @tylerdurden3722

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@homelessjesse9453 it started even before the Gracchi Brothers. During the second Punic War. That was the first war of many when many Roman soldiers couldn't return to their farms after the campaign season. Causing those farms to become neglected, with returning soldiers finding themselves in financial ruin. On top of that, Rome suddenly had an abundance of cheap slaves as a result of those wars. Instead of finding solutions, wealthy patricians took advantage of the situation and bought up those farms for cheap (by finding ways around the laws that limited land ownership of an individual)...and then farming those cheap farms with cheap slaves. This left a growing multitude of Roman veterans landless as land coalesced into the hands of a few. Land ownership was a requirement to become a soldier. Combined with losses in wars, the number of Romans eligible for military service declined fast, leaving Rome (who used to have endless soldiers) with no soldiers. Which resulted in the Marian Reforms. In top of that, the newly landless mostly migrated to the city of Rome. These people were poverty stricken and angry. Their great numbers dramatically changed the political dynamics in Rome (in terms of voting). This new formidable source of political power resulted in the rise of populists like the Gracchi Brothers, Drusses, Marius, Clodius, Ceasar, etc. Also, the many slave revolts, socials wars and civil wars can be traced back to this breakdown of land distribution. In some ways, one could say that Hannibal unknowingly caused the decline of Rome😅. As it was the war he started that prevented soldiers from returning home in between campaign seasons.

    Very good episode. Wishing you build from this Part 3 some new shows. 1) Develop the Warrior Pope - no one has animated his life and warrior nature. What battles he lead and strategy. Also you allude to Cesare Borgia who Machiavelli related as the model PRINCE relating to unified Italy. Shall you develop that story more? Also you did not mention the Ecumenical Council of Florence which Cosimo de'Medici organized. How much of the thought of Petrarch influenced the Florentines like the Medici and also how much of his work lead to the Reunion of the Romans (East-West)? I appreciate your channel - thank you !

    Medieval wars had many rules. Usually it was two armies meeting in an open field. cities were rarely sacked - the perpetrator could suffer excommunication and lose his aristocratic rights. But with the papacy losing influence and the creation of cannons, the war became more destructive and brought about the end of the renaissance.

    Mind you this is a religion that rise from small land under control of the mighty Roman empire, that rise very fast it was said one of the reason Western Roman empire fall is because Christianity itself. After that they keep spreading reaching the land of Norse, North America, Japan, China, Australia, and more, reaching many type people, this religion wether you like it or not is really fierce in it movement, but to be fair this religion that once being throw into wild beast, hung, burning, and grill of course they gonna start become much more fierce.
