Certainly the issues were much bigger than him, and he deserves the credit for getting them up in the first place. But if you look at how both of his spells at Forest ended (especially the 2nd) and how he's talked & behaved publicly since then, you might be less inclined to cut him some slack. In any case a relationship is a two-way street, and although the owners were definitely at fault, Davies' own paranoia and ambition got the better of him; as it would again at Forest.

@@caseyfitch2330 Thats actually bollox. Billy was brilliant first time at Forest and there was no issue he got ( Wrongly in my view ) sacked for not getting promoted first time round . Second time he turned on the journalists who in his misguided view didnt back him first time round . He basically blamed the journalists for his sacking so he did a media blackout at Forest , it was a total farce us fans had no access to any info coming out of the club. But what im saying is he wasnt like this at the beginning this all happened second time round at Forest , before this he was brilliant , a great coach and motivator

I'm a toon supporter, I forgot how bad Sunderland can be. Mind you Newcastle's main aim is to stay in the premier League so Mike Ashley can fill his pockets. I'm sick of owners taking liberties with football clubs. They are only passing through, these owners, whereas the fans will always be there, generation after generation. All clubs have a history, that gives the fans Something to be proud of. These owners don't get it, they just want money. If your club has a good owner, then I'm really happy for you.

as a Leicester fan we loved Nigel for what he did, and his departure was harsh. But Rainieri fucking did it. He got us the most unbelievable Premier league win of all time. We still have massive respext for Nigel, all of the guys on our Championship winning and relegation escaping squads (guys like Knockaert, Nugent, etc) and all of them helped build the best team the club has ever seen.

I have so many stories about this clusterfuck...You did forget that not only was the side 20th in the championship the year before, but we had money siphoned out of the club and were over £50 million in debt. The owners all subsequently went to jail over it. I thought the club would go bust

Titus Bramble was pretty good at this point. Scored against Liverpool at Anfield that season (07/08) and won Wigan’s player of the season award the following year (08/09) when they finished 11th.

I somehow didn't realize Feilhaber was a part of THIS Derby team. I've met Feilhaber because he played for my hometown Sporting Kansas City. If I ever meet him again I'll have to at least consider asking him about this experience.

@@rossomac21 I’m not disputing that. Based on their final position you could argue that they were a decent team. However, the competition today is fiercer and I have no doubt this 20/21 Villa team is more talented.

In the old days of Division one, when the teams played 42 league games per season, Stoke City in the 1984-85 season were on a par with Derby County, with 3 wins, 8 draws and 31 defeats, for a total of 17 points. If the Premier League was still 42 games per season, I could not see Derby County attaining the 6 points in 4 games to improve on Stoke City stats, so that Derby County team of 2007-08 is definitely the worst team ever in the top flight

I was 6/7 years old this season, went to (almost) every home game. I wasn't allowed to go to night matches yet so I missed the only win. My strongest memory honestly is seeing Ronaldo score at Pride Park and some fans on the pitch at the end of the season holding signs saying "thanks f**k that's over"

Still get nightmares of this season in my sleep, 20 games I went to and was one of the lucky ones that actually seen us win, the lowest point was definitely the 5-0 at home to West Ham, it was -4, felt like we had no shots and the best player for them was dean ashton, it hurts so bad 😂

I remember watching this train wreck back in 2007-2008 here in the United States. Not always the games. But there was a channel that showed Sky Sports News at 7 pm U.S. time. Honestly, Derby losing was one thing I could count to see every night they played. Except for that one time of course. But still.

As a Huddersfield fan, I felt like this definitely could have been us during season 2. We had been found out tactically and hadn't invested enough, bit like Sheffield now.

i remember this season like it was yesterday. i was 11 years old playing for reading youth academy and then me and my family moved to derby the season they were promoted, i was so excited as i couldn't find much else to be excited about with the thought of laving my life at reading behind... and then derby county proceeded to massively disappointed me to the point where i was invited to try for the youth team and almost didnt want to go lol never the less i grew to love derby county football club and they are close to my heart.

Another brilliant analysis from Tifo, I remember this team losing almost every game in 2008 and wondered about the hold of the top 4 clubs back then and how it's almost impossible to stay in the top 10, let alone challenge for an outside club.This is why Man City needed to happen, to shake up the feudal pyramid of club football. Leicester too.

Oooof, I remember that season. It was difficult to watch and even before clicking on this video, I knew exactly what it would be about. They went down early that season, everyone saw it coming but that didn't make it any easier.

Yeah, what the video doesn't cover is that Billy Davies had been trying to get fired from the second we got promoted. A lot of interviews of players at the time have said that he thought that he had no chance in the premier league anyway so he wanted to get a pay out and go back to Preston, which was always the team that he had wanted to go up with. Billy had stretches in his management where he was very successful, but he was also extremely erratic because of his paranoia. Apparently whenever a plane would fly over the training ground he would rush the players inside as he thought they where being spied on, and he would play random tests on players so that he could be sure they where loyal.

Thank god that Benny Feilhaber found success over here back in America. He played great and found a lot of success with Sporting KC during his time and actually after a year of retirement, just signed to be on SKC’s technical staff.

My personal opinion, Aston Villa 2015-16 was the worse team, I have never seen a team look so spineless. They had good players (good enough to stay up anyway ), every game they never tried no backbone in the team whatsoever. This Derby team while being awful and statistically the worse, the team let’s be honest was ridiculously out of their depth none of the players were premier league quality they were just crap. There were games where they tried their hardest and played with a spine and passion other games where they got thumped but at least they turned up compared to that villa team

Fortunate to get more points. Newcastle and Man United gifted them 2 wins

I had so much hope when Kenny Miller scored that rocket to beat Newcastle. Highlight of the season, that.

There is a very good book on this by Edgar Smith, called Bad, Worse, Worst, The Story of Derby County’s Record Breaking Season 2007/08.

Brief history of the teams to be never be relegated since EFL was established.

As a Saints fan, I remember how close we got to knocking Derby out of the 2007 playoffs in the semi final. We ended up losing on penalties. It could have been very different!

It's been almost 13 years and this is still hilarious

I remember they signed Sterjovski in that January transfer window. Crazy signing.

For the record nobody call Derby “County” it’s Derby or The Rams or have I lost my mind?

I mean that was a weak year but there were strong promoted sides then as well, West Ham and Wigan both made the top half in 06. This year we have Leeds who are patchy & then two pretty dire ones

Unless you're Newcastle who only won 2 out of 6 games that season against newly promoted teams.

Oh yes the player that shouldnt even be there class that.

My team huddersfield even weren’t this bad in the prem and we only beat 2 teams

They were such an average championship team in the premier league that season. Such a shame a proud club like Derby own that horrible record.

I recently watched their 5-1 demolition of Real Madrid with a Charlie George hatrick that was a great team.

I remember the headline "RAMpant" lol, Jewell in his keks behind some bird.

Yes I think that Jewell was an up and coming manager at the time.

In my eyes although Derby finished on fewer points than they will, Sheffield United are the worst Premier League team I’ve seen in recent times. Even worse than Norwich and that’s saying something. Conceding 100 goals in a 38 game season before it’s even over is absolutely criminal. I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up getting relegated twice in a row

Sheffield Utd would beat this record at ease. And they gonna do it in one of the weakest seasons of all EPL history.

Derby should've become a perennial powerhouse like Liverpool, if only Sam Longson had put his pride and ego away and let Brian and Peter build an empire.

It's hard not to wonder what could have been if Billy's Forest team of 09/10 had gone all the way. There were weaknesses, but he united that group much the same way he did with Derby. Plus, I can't see the owner at the time (Nigel Doughty) really being able to financially support a decent summer transfer window. Whether they'd be as bad as Derby though remains to be seen. Billy was a loose cannon in both of his reigns at Forest so no doubt there'd have been something

@@bennettr9218 where you get 2004 from I was talking about the promotion season as that was when Villa was talked about in the video but at the time of that terrible season by Derby we finsished 6th in the prem

Can you do Reading’s 106 point season and subsequent 8th placed Prem finish at some point?

Honourable mention for AVFC relagation of 2015/16. Something like 17 points. Was a toughun.

You know your team is doomed when they hire Danny Mills as a mid season improvement. The best thing Stuart Pearce did was to turf that waste of oxygen out of my club.

I live in derby but born in Leicester....... so this is a thing of gold to me 😂

Oh my...poor Derby. This story is so sad it's hard to watch.

I'm not a Derby fan, but this is a disgrace, the way they treat their own fans. I'm sure Derby are like every other club and have supporters who spend their money home and away games, always hoping for something better, but it doesn't come. I totally empathize with Derby fans.

As a Villa fan that 6-0 win was one it my favourite performances ever but it's true we were just beating up on a team totally out of it's depth.

I always remember Swindon being absolutely shocking in the Prem..
