One thing I love about the film is how open-ended it is. We the audience have no idea if Louis chose to become a vampire or not. At the beginning of the film, it certainly seemed that way because when Lestat introduced himself as a vampire all Louis seemed to care about was the immortality portion of being a vampire. It is only when Lestat portrays the negative of being immortal such as loneliness, having to kill, etc that gives him pause. However, Lestat also portrays the positive aspects of a vampire to balance out the negative such as witnessing the ages, and new inventions which allowed him to witness the sun on the big screen after centuries. So now we don't know what choice he's going to make. I have a prediction I think Louis is going to choose immortality since no-one really wants to die. Louis is portrayed as a man with a conscience which is why I believe Lestat chose him out of thousands of reporters to tell his story to, so I don't see him enjoying killing. However, for a vampire to live they must eat or drink whatever term one likes to use. Lucky for Louis this is not the eighteenth century since we have blood banks all around the city and you can easily bribe someone to deliver to you several portions of blood every week. If you are not a murderer then the choice is simple. The rules state that you couldn't drink from a dead body not that you couldn't drink from fresh blood that is contained in a bag from a person who was or is alive, and as for the loneliness, you can always try to find a companion one who is already a vampire that shares your values like not killing, etc

On Lestat/Vampire Chronicles: the series changes its purpose/genre after the first book. With the IWTV, Anne Rice had a particular vision & philosophical questions she was exploring from the grief of her young daughter's death. With The Vampire Lestat and the rest of the series, the series becomes a campy supernatural romp (think more 'stereotypical' gothic-y silly melodramatic stories). The rest of the series is neither good nor bad, it's just they are a different type of book than the first one. My best guess for how you Emma specifically will feel about it is that you'll like IWTV most, and not enjoy the rest of the series as much, unless you can get into the type of camp Anne Rice writes.

I'm pretty sure you will love The Vampire Lestat. I mean, he is such a great character to begin with. Don't let the Rock Star stuff put you off. It's only a small part of the book and fits in really nicely. Anyways, the book really managed to scare me, which doesn't happen often. Not a jump scare, of course, but a deep sense of dread and terror that stayed with me for quite a while. It's fantastic!

The Vampire Lestat is definitely an experience. I started reading it a while back, but realised about a third of the way in that I need to be in a certain mindset to really take it in. I'm absolutely going to pick it back up on a day when my analytical side is a little more subdued so I can enjoy it in its entirety.

Interview with The Vampire was the book that got me into reading at 15, so I was really excited to continue the series, but unfortunately, The Vampire Lestat turned out to be one of my biggest disappointments. I remember dnfing it after a few chapters and then trying to forget it existed 😂

47 endings… well now I need to read some Hemingway! A big gap in my reading, for sure.

The Vampire the Lestat, it is absolutely awesome book. I like Queen of the Damned because of the Story of how the Vampire line started and Maharet and Mekare's story. Also Blackwood Farm is awesome for the story line brings in the Witches (the Mayfair Witches), the Audiobook on this one is So Good, the guy reading it is fantastic. Blood and Gold is also Great, you learn Marius Story back in Rome and Pandora is in that book as well as Lestat. Memnoch the Devil is a good read as well the story of Lestat meeting God and the Devil. Anne Rice is not for everyone, but very good reads, I have read all of hers except the Ann Rampling books, not my style. Love Lasher as well.
