A Better Way to Fish Grass with the Strike King Hybrid Hunter

One of the hotly anticipated lures of ICAST 2020 is the Strike King Hybrid Hunter developed with Todd Castledine who has been fishing with a version of it for 12 years. He was finally able to create the version with Strike King over the last two years and they have perfected the balance and action of this unique lure that is part crankbait, part lipless bait, part swimbait and part jerkbait.
While the Hybrid Hunter will work on rocks and wood, where it really shows out is fishing on submerged grass beds. Castledine has already landed a 12 pound, 6-ounce bass on the Hybrid Hunter while the in the testing phases on Toledo Bend. So he has a long history with how to fish this bait and why it might be a better option for fishing grass than any other hard bait out there today.
Castledine talks reading and covering water and grass, how to work the bait effortlessly, how the bass react to this lure and a whole bunch more that will help your grass fishing regardless of what lure you choose. Hey Todd, Just picked up a couple of the HH. I see you working it, similar to a Jerkbait. Pull it, then point the rod at it. Is that just when you feel the grass or is that your cadence? And do you use a clip or tie to the split ring?

I have rapala crankbaits with that same bill design. I think they are discontinued because I haven’t seen them for sale anymore. Gonna have to add to my tackle collection now.

What area of Louisiana is this marsh? Looks like the Sabine National Refuge.
Would have been cool if he'd try to fish another crank bait first to compare results. Still think it would be a weed magnet in milfoil.
6th sense baits has had this for two or three years works great in grass and rocks.
More footage of Mac Keys on smallies is what we want to see.

I mean. I believe this bait works, but videos on private marshes don't sell me. You could put your you know what in the water over their and a bass would bite it.

It was 60 degree temps back in March in Louisiana. Prespawn.
Might be a better way to fish grass; but there are many old lures built using the same looking bills and shapes already proven to produce the same results. None will go thru weeds without getting buried in weeds sooner than later. Not to say this one might be an improvement; time will tell it is or not. Rapala Ultralight minnow, Rapalas Shallow Shad Rap, Rapalas Super Shad Rap. Bandit 100, Lucky Craft 1.5, Mann’s Minus 1, Rebel Humpback and Bluegill. Bomber Shallow A, Bomber Square A, Cotton Cordell Big O, Rat-L Trap ECHO 1.75, SPRO Little John 50 all run shallow and all get stuck.
I'm super excited for this bait. I have 2 plugs i fish through grass right now BUT the grass has ti be in prime health and with all the wind in OK its pretty rare. Hoping this will allow me to fish more times throug put the year

I was really impressed with how well it worked. Some places Todd was throwing it over grass that was 6-8 inches under the surface and then he’d go across a hole and get slammed.

Wow this sure does look like a 6th sense bait edit not saying they were the first but this isnt a new design by any means. Rapala had one too

Strike Pro Bubba was the first-SK bought the mold and tweaked it. The Rapala is not meant to rip out of grass.
That looks like the kind of Crank bait that I could use, in a Reservoir I fish at. Irregular moss growing in the water column. Is there any set Date for the Product release?

I did too. But this day with Todd back in March changed my mind.
I liked the look, so I got 3..first day fishing with ine the bill broke when I popped it out grass/reeds. I contacted lews. They contacted me saying someone would contact me. But for me to provide pictures and other info. I did. But near a week has gone by and nothing from Lews.
Can we get some translucent colors 🙏
Unsurprisingly, this is already made by 6th sense in alot of way better colors (but was made first by strike pro as I was informed)

Actually, it's the Big Bubba formerly made by Strike Pro. Strike King has the rights from them to produce this. Funny how they try to make it sound like a new bait they developed.

He pretty much was the dude that figured out the Big Bubba back in the day. Without him this bait would have died in obscurity, at least here in the US.

So much BS in Strike King « propaganda ». I like that the guy is telling us that the bait runs level and then we clearly see the bait running nose down on the underwater shot. As mentioned in the comments, nothing is new here. Nothing. Strike makes very good baits, they do! But there sale speech is killing me. Makes me look somewhere else.

It was cancelled. This was filmed probably in February or earlier... before the virus was known. You don’t wear bibs in Texas in the summer. This video is older.

ICAST is virtual next week. We will be launching a 300-slide gallery covering all the new tackle for 2021 on Monday on www.wired2fish.com. This was filmed in March in Louisiana. We had to wait until Strike King was ready to release the bait.
