    Clean Range means the ammo is not exposing you to lead. No exposed lead on the projectile. No lead in the primer, which is the most dangerous lead exposure to shooters as it's inhaled & ingested. 🤠

    Just a note, as a Brazilian , this is the factory ammo we use 99% of the time, as a single bullet of these will run you R$5 or a dollar each . For imported ammo ( blazer or norma) you would be looking at around 5 usd for a single 9mm round.

    As a Brazilian Police Officer, I only recommend this ammo for training... It has a higher failure rate tham normal ammo, and this rate become even higher after medium term storage.

    @@BuffRANGE, Just keeping It in a regular locker. We have a big training event about 1 month ago, almost no failures at all... But the same ammo from 2 years back (keeped on locker) gives ~2-3% failure to fire. Note: I'm not saying that it's crap ammo, It just have a shorter shelf-life. 😉 If you keep It vaccum sealed or with some kind of desiccant, It apeers to solve this problem!

    I'd like to see a test of how dirty a specific firearm gets with a set amount of ammo. Use one firearm, clean between testings and try a bunch of brands both FMJ and defensive ammo. This is important to me because the environment I live in tends to accelerate fouling and carbon buildup like crazy. Imagine full servicing amd troubleshooting an AR at 3k rounds because it's under gassed only to find out the gas tube and carrier key were almost sealed with carbon 😂

    Hey Matt, have you done or can you do a video about the Federal Syntech ammo? I often see it sold in a bundle with their HST ammo, but when it’s sold on its own, it’s usually priced well over regular FMJ ammo. It seems to be advertised as training ammo, but it doesn’t really make sense to use when I can get regular FMJ for like 60% the cost.

    @@BuffRANGE Hmm... So it seems what separates it from other range ammo is that its a softer lead to reduce splashback on steel targets. Thank you for the link and for continuing to provide useful info.

    @@BuffRANGE Yeah, I’ll be doing the same. There’s too much fire risk to bother with steel targets and I’m too poor to spend that much on training ammo lol

    I wonder if this projectile actually does anything to stop lead exposure? Can't be as good as the actual lead free range ammo.

    I would think in all honesty a copper bullet would be light years ahead in total lead exposure, but encapsulating the rear of the bullet is going to help some :D

    @BuffRANGE At one point in time, I ran into a good deal on a bunch of the Federal green box stuff that is the polymer & copper matrix projectiles. I mostly just use what I have left for closer range steel target drills since there is no threat of catching jacket shards lol.

  • @calangel

    @calangel

    No, a TMJ wouldn't have that jacket. It has a jacket with a copper plate on the would-be exposed lead base. An actual TMJ would be something like Speer lawman, freedom munitions bullets aka Xtreme bullets, as well as Berry's bullets.

    @@echofoxtrotwhiskey1595 that's what a TMJ refers to, as much of a misnomer that is. Lawman aka Speer/CCI (the 22 mag stuff), Xtreme, and Berry's all use lead slugs that are electroplated. I'm going to give the synthetic jacket stuff a try. I'm going to be buying my first pistol can soon so lead free primers and no exposed lead is a huge plus, as well as the fact that the 150gr target stuff is very low recoil and quiet. I have some 165gr HUSH (also TMJ) to test against, but they do report some cycling issues with some guns.

  • @calangel

    @calangel

    @@echofoxtrotwhiskey1595 I think KZread ate my original comment. TMJ would actually be electroplated. That's the only way to totally encapsulate a bullet. All of the Speer CCI stuff, including the 22WMR and Gold Dot stuff, is done this way. It has some important advantages, and I do prefer them generally for range use. I also really like the TSJ (total synthetic jacket) stuff, and plan to try the 150gr stuff for suppression and the 138gr stuff for carry.
