We have had three wolfhounds continuously for the past 27 years. They have brought us great joy. Sadly, our current wolf is has been diagnosed with cancer in his jaw. There is nothing we can do but make him comfortable and care for him with love and dignity. As I sit here I reflect on how our three dogs have filled our lives with love and gentleness. It will be a sad day when we are forced to part with our sweet boy. We steward these gentle souls through their lives and they reward us with unconditional love. If you are blessed to have one, hold them tight and let them know every day how much they mean to you and your family.

Friendliest dog that ever made me almost poop in my pants lol he ran up to the truck and put his head in the window when we pulled in, all 4 feet firmly on the ground 😅 always wanted one since
Having had wolfhounds for decades and currently having 2 you have described them pretty good, although most owners would know just about everything you stated plus more. My take is that they are very old souls and impossibly sweet, especially to children and old folks. I have taken my 240 lb. male to nursing homes for visits and he was a star. Many elderly wept when he gently laid his head in their lap. He knew exactly what he was doing and loved every minute. It's also important that these dogs be inside with their people, isolation is the worst thing that can be done to them. I've learned that you don't give them commands, rather make suggestions.
I have had Irish Wolfhounds for 15 years now! If you want a great security system get a smaller dog with the Wolfhound, The Wolfhound will bond with the smaller dog, the smaller dog will attack a intruder and the wolfhound will back up his/her little buddy with his/her life! I live on 5 acres and twice my 2 wolfhound’s treed intruders trying to break into my house, with the Labrador calling the shots! 😂

Mine would die for me my wife and kids but found out he would hide in the bedroom if no one was home to protect, sent a friend to walk him one day we were gone for the afternoon and my buddy had to go find him just laying on his bed in our room lol I like your idea of another smaller dog for him to protect 👌
They are free thinkers like people so they are smart and make their own decisions. They decide if it’s important enough to react to or do I guess unless it comes to hunting wolves or dragging knights off their horses in war then it’s totally game on. Plus a couch and a bit of cheese is always important enough to them

About the fence. Do not think 6' is a safe option! It only says to the hound is it worth the effort? I myself have owned many a giant dog, also GSMD/Malemute mixes and Great Danes. Stubbornness seems a feature in the large breeds😂! An, 'oh really?' won't do! Sometimes the deep, quite, manly voice gets the better result. Yelling is dumb, dogs think 'great, now we're all barking'! But, when I put my will over those gentle giants it can happen that they don't look at me, for half a hour😂. The trick is after corrections to show that you don't have a chip on your shoulder. And as soon as you come home after a correction the house is a good and friendly place, same goes for the car. In the house we never had loud conversations, music or clanging noises. Your dog will thrive and respect you and feel very good around you! After all, you don't want your dog to obey you bc he fears you, you want your dog to understand that you know better and it will be all good!
The average male IW weighs 140-180 pounds, and many are over 200 pounds. A 120 pound male IW is extremely small!

I’m pretty sure 99% of all wolfhound owners know everything you mention in this video, they’re not an easy breed to find and the people that breed them love them more than people and would never give one to someone that hasn’t done their homework 🤷♂️
