'92 VIPER vs VIPER ACR | The ultimate 90s supercars showdown with Doug Demuro

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Who do you think would win on a drag strip between a pre-production, first-generation Dodge Viper, and Dodge Viper ACR? Will the more powerful successor beat its aged ancestor or will experience win out over the young blood? Well, we're here to find out!
The first generation Dodge Viper was conceived in 1988 with the objective of creating a modern equivalent to a Shelby Cobra: it was first shown at NAIAS in 1989 purely as a concept car. Unexpectedly, it obtained widespread enthusiasm and the concept shown at the event lead to a standard production vehicle, during Lee Iacocca management era. Eighty five engineers and seventy million dollars were allocated to Team Viper to make it happen - Lamborghini casted a prototype from an aluminum block and the first mule was carrying a V8, which was then replaced by iconic V10 also developed by Lamborghini (then owned by Chrysler) in the production models.
Carrol Shelby piloted a preproduction car as pace vehicle during the Indy 500 race and in 1991 the Viper officially debuted in its final form at a price point of only $52,000, exponentially improving the image of a then not so successful Chrysler Group. No airbags, no abs, no traction control, no a/c, no door handles, no frills: just a lot of power.
The Viper has 400 hp at 4600 rpm and 465 lb/ft of torque at 3600 rpm. It goes from 0/60 mph in 4.2 seconds, and has a maximum speed of 165 mph.
You can get up close and personal with this Viper, on display in our Vault, as well as the F40 in our new Maranello Masterpieces: The Legacy of Enzo Ferrari exhibit, opening on Father's day at the Petersen Automotive Museum!
A big thank you to Pennzoil for making this series possible. Stay tuned for part 2 of this video, as a 2005 Dodge Viper ACR joins the races!

$142,000 in 1987 for the Yellowbird would be $380,000 in today's money. Adjusted for inflation.
