I've been dealing with a meniscus tear for about five months. Too bad the bonehead therapist I went to didn't watch this video. He kept having me do squats and then had me work on getting up from a chair using only my legs. After seven weeks of his "therapy", I now have two bad knees instead of one. In my experience, good therapists are about as rare as unicorns.

I went to see a physio before mine had been scanned, few months after the tear who bent my leg and knee in directions a knee should never go, announced it had great flexibility and I left there with the exact pain I had after it tore all over. Had my tear year and a half now and was just told there’s multiple things wrong with your knee and that it’s physio, steroids and then keyhole if those don’t help enough and no guarantee the surgery will change a thing. I’m 27 so really don’t want knee surgery

Yes, five years! I live inUK and have just discovered Prolotherapy by Oliver Eaton in Bedford. This is a form of Ozonetherapy which has been known for over a hundred years and used all over the world. P.S it’s not driving but twisting the knee when getting into the car. I learned to do a little jump!

Had scope in 2019 on right knee where they trimmed a small section, absolutely no regrets. It is as functional as it ever was, even for deep squatting and running. Had left one done 11 days ago. Just now starting to feel better. My therapy guy has me locking it out to stretch the muscles but it irritates it. So I'm going to stop that nonsense, thanks for putting that in your video. I can tell you through experience you're speaking truth in everything you said. Much appreciated.

I’ve had every diagnosis from torn muscle, trapped nerve, arthritis etc and finally after 3yrs, an ultrasound showed a meniscus tear. I locked my knee out whilst stretching last month and now I know why it was so painful.

The number 1 thing to avoid is SURGERY for removal of the meniscus or parts of it!!!, I had a meniscus tear and even when I had little pain and almost 100% motion and no lock, the doctor still recommended the surgery but now I see he did it for a cash grab!, another doctor recently told me with a new MRI that my inner meniscus was removed almost completely and says the thin layer of meniscus remaining will degenerate quickly and probably I will need replacement of the knee in 5-7 years because of this... What's your view on that?, I think there are some very shady doctors that don't care if you'll end up worse than before as long as they can get some money out of you!

This is a great point, I agree surgery to remove the meniscus should be avoided if possible. The meniscus is a shock absorber and has a very important job. I can't comment on shady doctors but I appreciate the concern and I have met many people who agree with you.

Hi thank you for your helpful video! How about stretching out my quad's? So I've bend my knee all the way back to stretch?

These are very important points and very few are talking about these. I recently suffered a locked knee issue.. I have little pain in the lower side of my knee and I am able to walk slowly. is regular icing advisable?

Hi Tom, thank you. Would deep squats include those without weight from a chair? (other physical therapists have chair squats as core program to strengthen the knee). cheers

Hi! Really helpful video, thank you. 7 weeks into physio and sharp front knee pain in both knees has subsided what I think was a meniscus tear after a period of inactivity and then a couple of days of beach walks over dunes. Also felt worse on moving and twisting …My walking speed is so much slower than before the injury is this normal? Also I have a bend in my knees on standing how do I fix this or is it too soon? I am 54 and have been doing knee strengthening excercises suggested by my nhs physio

Thank you. I have been running, twisting every time I do a yoga session and now I will only walk and stop the twisting exercise.

Super video! Wish you were nearer! Lateral meniscus tear (possibly bucket handle as can’t extend knee, will not naturally straighten) waiting MRI. Physio told me to take painkillers and ice to prep the knee before pushing it down on the floor to straighten. Also exercises to straighten knee. Has said I can walk and run on it as it won’t damage it we were designed to run/walk. Confused. Knee worse than it was. Now aches all day and extremely painful into shin bone below knee cap when trying to straighten knee as advised. Thank you for your video. I accidentally twist my leg whilst moving in bed. Are compression socks helpful? Thank you
