    ! Did you have your hip replacement? I hope things went well. I didn’t fall, I was only making up my bed and turned or twisted a bit and heard a ‘Pop’ and felt immense pain. Standing on just one leg, couldn’t move, paramedics responded and wrapped me up in my sheet to take me to the ER. X-rays confirmed what needed to be done. Of course there was no other choice. Post op, I’ve still having physical therapy and it has been helpful but I’m cautious. I hope you are doing well and send you best regards.❤

    Surgery itself makes you tired and kind of weak. But I got stronger as days went on. I walked into the doctors office at the hospital one weak later with ease. Never had hip pain after surgery.

    Just had my right hip replaced two weeks ago. Already walking around with no crutches! I did strengthening exercises before the op and you really need it, especially upper body core strength. I am due for the left hip in 6 weeks time, which is not nearly so bad (the right one was agony before), but I know how fast the bad one went from tolerable to sheer torture. I am so fortunate I can pay for this. (I have never gone private before.) On the NHS, I have not even received my first appointment. I'm so sorry for those who have to suffer for so long 😢. Get on the list!

    As a follow-up to my post below, I had the Anterior Hip Replacement surgery at the end of May. I'm happy to report that after a little more than 14 weeks later, I'm completely pain free and I'm back playing doubles tennis 2-3x per week, and riding my bike 6.5 miles several times a week. Also, I can bend over to tie my shoes and can get in and out of the car without any problems. The most important advice I can offer is to be sure to do strengthening exercises 4-5 weeks BEFORE surgery, and to follow your surgeon's & physical therapist's instructions to the letter AFTER. The stronger you can become in your hip, thigh, glute and lower back area, the easier and faster your recovery will be. There are many excellent YT videos that show how to do these pre-surgery and post-surgery exercises. Good luck to those having the THR surgery.

  • @scotthunt2479

    @scotthunt2479

    Not a problem at all. I started tennis at an early age, too, so I'm sure that contributed to my hip issues. But now, post-surgery, I play doubles tennis on clay courts 2-3 times a week, and on the off days I either play Pickleball or ride my bike. No problems in the hip whatsoever. To be sure, I still do my strengthening and stretching exercises just as I did preparing before the surgery, and it's important that you keep up that regimen post-surgery. I was also very fortunate to have one of the most talented and experienced surgeons there is specializing in THR. Within one hour of waking up from the surgery, they had me out of bed and walking up and down the hospital corridors with the aid of a walker. In-home physical therapy started the very next day. Do your research, ask a lot of questions, and I pray that all of you experience the same results I did from my THR. Please let me know if you all have any more questions. @@rjb7569

    @@scotthunt2479 Thank you for the reply! Very encouraging. As in other medical procedures the focus is always moving. Thought the anterior procedure was best for me at first. Now thinking about the shaving procedure that they used to only do only on younger people. Recent info has a lot of older folks (like me, 72) getting the procedure. Haven't been evaluated yet. Still in the investigating mode. Always been very active and want to get back to that before I croak. Played softball, for example, 'till I was 69 and the hip put me on the bench. Thanks again!

    I hear you, Scott. Same issues here. Putting on sneakers and socks is torture, topped only (well, both situations are torture) by getting in and out of the car. Even worse as I have hernias on both sides, with the right being extremely painful. Same side as the worse hip. And this will be my 3rd hernia on left side. Lucky me. The cane has become my best friend. Wanna race? The loss of mobility is killing me.

    My hip pain 1 Effect my sleep if i dont do exercise. If i dont exercises for the hip the night tightness will be worse. Pain is 2-3/10 but tightness of the muscles. Even if I do exercise (recomended by physio) the hip pain is also there but less. Applying heat oil is also good. 2 Not much range of motion problem if i warm up or do daily exercises. 3 Cannot play golf or badminton or run much. Pain of hip if i do. Mainly sleep problem. Level of pain is as describe above. 4 I brisk walk 3 times a week. But not too much the hip dont like it, so I do your hip joint exercises. So I walk only about 3km instead of 5km. Do I need a hip replacement?

Getting in the car (I'm in the US) and driving is painful; it's my right hip that's the culprit. Want hip replacement but need to lose weight. Can't exercise because it hurts. Ugh. I used to walk. Use sock & shoe assistant devices and grab-it sticks. Retired a few weeks ago and live alone. Not responsible for pet but live alone. No family. Know I need the surgery but am concerned about recovery. I'm in the USA and worried they'll want to release me from the hospital next day. Live on 3rd floor. Shoebox apartment. get the surgery! pain will be gone. Yes you will probably need to go to a rehab facility where you will get PT, meals, help if needed w bathing. but it is worth it and insurance should cover most or all of cost.! sso worth it! I went to a Menonite facility. they were wonderful😊

    Ive got every symptom, had a phone call to say my x-ray showed I needed a hip replacement, a few months back. I see a physio who then sends me a link to go to sitting on a chair exercises once a week, was told 1 in 10 hip replacements don't work and can be complications and there's no turning back. I feel she may have been told to put as many people off as possible due to waiting lists time? All ive read and heard from people who have had hip replacements are all good outcomes. I'm 73 in constant pain and cant sleep properly, Sometimes I do take a co-codamol which does help with sleep but I'm scared to take to many due to becoming addicted. I'm at a loss now as to what to do, I don't drive so it will mean my husband having to take me to these exercise classes who has severe arthritis himself, His 75. If fail to turn up to these classes then what?

    I have all seven signs. Do you think hip injections could help at this point?

    Get hip resurfacing from COMPETENT doctors, you will be active as before. Professional athletes only get hip resurfacings to continue their career, like Any Murray, Patrick Kane.

    @@enza3770 I think they do hip resurffacing over 60, just check out the right doctors, like Dr. Thomas Gross in SC or Dr. Edwin Su in NYC or Dr.James Pritchard in WA. Only a handful of the doctors can successfully do these hip resurfacacings. OR Dr. McMinn in UK.
