Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A working Rolec smart charging fix by Bill Burgess. It works!
Note: Turns out that MG did offer the PodPoint as an approved installer as well as Rolec.

It's high time that MG got this timed charging update sorted out once and for all......they fit one to the Asian models so it can't be that hard to sort out the UK version. I'm a bit surprised that they sell 2 different cars to people......One with the App and one without.

the way to check if your MG is updated...lock car with flap open...plug it in to charger after 20-30minutes ...if wakes up and charges you ok, if dead silent you need to update

Great videos. I have a MGZS EV and when I put in neutral it rolls forward. S this normal. I test drove vW mokka which does not roll forward when in neutral so abit confused.

I believe that there shouldn't be a creep forward when in neutral. Although it doesn't disengage the motor. Are you sure you were not on a hill or something hence the roll forward?

Thank you for your videos, really wonderful that all the videos reflect a common man's thoughts that one would go through after buying the EV. I have just ordered one and looking to get a charger installed. pod-point have confirmed to me over Twitter that the scheduled charging is going to be available on their app soon. Do you mean to say the feature doesnt work on Rolec even though it supports it? What is the purpose of this hack which involves opening up the unit?

There have been some software updates which MG will apply to your car. I have heard you needed to be either the first 1000 customers (I was) or I would guess in the new deal of a free charger and servicing etc. to get it. However, it would seem that even after a software update, this has still not fixed the problem. A lot of work from Bill (A link to his channel and e-mail in the description - He's the person who made the board) have found the issue is not fixed - the car effectively is still 'asleep'. To be fair to MG, I have not requested the update because as there is no need given Bill's board works fine. That also means I have removed the board and tested it. The purpose of the hack at the time of filming was that Rolec/MG did not have any form of update rolled out, so it was necessary to use it to get the smart charging capability. I did not want to wait for Rolec to bring any update out (I was expecting a much later release - Autumn/Winter 2020), hence installing the board. If Bill is correct, it does look as though smart charging capability without something like the board still does not work even after the new software update, and from this, you may still require another solution (e.g. the charging board). If you were buying a charger outright (and pay outright), there are options on the market that already support the MG out the box. I think I said the Zappi and Ohme charging cable to name a couple. Thanks for watching! - KC

Sorry, I am going to have to take issue with your statement. The Rolec Smart charger works in accordance with the OLEV grant as they are capable of charging other manufactures cars. In my opinion the fault is entirely with the MG for not following the correct CCS protocol which Bill has pointed out in his own videos. I am waiting until my charger is out of warranty before I fit the Bill board.

You are most certainly correct, at the end of the day, the charger is still OLEV compliant for all vehicles except the ZS EV so thank you for the clarification. It's clear that MG alongside Podpoint and/or Rolec also partnered together to provide the chargers for the cars and that is definitely the main issue, even when it's MG's fault, they should've fixed this way before the car was delivered to customers, not an ongoing issue and certainly not entered a deal if it's the case that they cannot provide smart charging. My comments were more in relation to some circles as speculation to OLEV compliance, and I did say for the MG specifically that this is not a working smart charger, which I still stand by for.
